There is an Illinois Room devoted to history of the area, including a genealogy section, with microfiche machines for newspapers dating back to 1853! The staff here is very friendly, and the vibe overall is very welcoming. All that you could ask for in a library!

You can pick up books all over town in the drop boxes and even County Market on 48th has a kiosk where you can check out books and movies like candy from vending machine -so cool. Try it out! Columbia public library made it easy to register for a free library card all online! I could even start checking out books before my card was shipped to me. We decided to check out the place in person and what a beautiful safe haven! There's lots of quiet spots to sit and read or study. I've had a lifelong love of libraries and always like visiting, though I also borrow titles electronically via the Overdrive app. It's super easy to use and download/return materials. I particularly like the audio titles, as they make a long drive seem shorter. You can also book a spot upstairs to hold a private meeting or use a computer. There are a lot of spaces to sit dotting the library to enjoy reading a book or magazine - they have many racks of current editions. It's a very relaxing environment!

All the…read morelibrarians are always so warm and welcoming that I feel like I should be hearing Fred Roger's asking if I would be his neighbor in song. I have to place holds on books ahead of time because it is pretty small and most books I want to read are at other branches, but it's really no big deal because they arrive quickly and it's just down the road from me so it's no trouble at all. We made a notary appointment on a Tuesday, Wednesday, we got in for an evening slide, and Wednesday evening. I did call to see if we can come in sooner and the accommodate us happily without any issues or concerns. We only waited for about five minutes before the notary was available for us, and we had come in an hour earlier than our original scheduled appointment. The lady that did our notarizing was very patient, we had a lot of documents that needed done. The library is always super clean and I will say everyone is so great if you need assistance or help locating anything. They also have a van swear they do reading with dogs, which I think is great as well.

It is a wooden library and it looks like it's been here for a while as the wood is quite aged. That's not a complaint - it shows character. The library has two doors and are secured with latches. A small selection of books inside including some thrillers, some hardcovers and some retired library books.
