I happened upon Hinterholz during an intense bout of Tirolerknödel craving. For the uninitiated, a Tirolerknödel is a starchy dumpling with bacon and scallions -- a savory masterpiece of starch and pork straight from the mountains. As it happened, they were conveniently having what they call a Knödel week, so I paid them a visit. I was welcomed by an extremely friendly man who walked me through the whole process and even suggested a wonderful beer pairing for the Knödel. He even shook my hand when I was done with the meal -- a nice, rare touch.
The Knödel themselves were every bit as satisfying as I wanted them to be; they were so amazing I had seconds and thirds -- and they are the size of a large man's fists. They also came with the best Sauerkraut I ever had, and I've never been a fan of the thing. I also stopped by during Palatschinken week. I had a savory, meat-filled crepe with sour cheese that was amazing. The waiter was a different one this time around, but he was also a cool dude.
I think it's a safe assumption that the people who run this restaurant, on all levels, care deeply about serving great food and treating people like friends.
