I was here as part of a tour with 50 or so tourists, to see the Krimml waterfalls. The restaurant lies just 150-200 meters away from the lower waterfalls.
The restaurant is decorated in traditional local Austrian style. Althought, the waitering staff were wearing only party traditional Austrian clothing.
It was dark outside, but I imagine that one can see the lower waterfalls from some of the tables when dining during summer.
The two waiters were not able to cope with the number of guests. I think it was because of the large number of people that arrived at the same time. We waited about 25 minutes before we finally had a drink in our hands. Our waiter took our drink order (3 people) and had already forgotten who ordered which drink, 2 minutes later when he came back. I don't think the staff has any proper training, but that is more the norm then the exception in family run restaurants in Austria, I find.
The food was above average. The english menu however, was not very helpful. The translations of some dishes could be better (For example 'Strammer Max', which is a typical Austrian dish, which was simply translated as 'Strong Max'. Not much help if you are a tourist who would like to know what a Strammer Max is.)
In the menu the wine price was 2,50 euro per glass. I asked for a glass of red. I had to pay 5 euro for my glass. Apparently the waiter had taken the liberty to serve me two 'portions'. Additionally, I never finished the wine because it was not nice (not 'off', just not a good one in my opinion). read more
