Beautiful modern interior, extensive selection of beers, kid-friendly and with snacks to boot! I got a sour, as did my friend, and we settled into the window to enjoy our drinks after a long day of hiking at Hurricane Ridge. We got some pretzels and mustard to tide us over until dinner. Even better: while ordering, we struck up a conversation with the beertender about nearby restaurants, and he steered us toward another great spot that we would have otherwise missed. Special thanks to the beertender (Seth?!) for entertaining our 9-year-old, who was super excited about the Pokemon cards he got at the nearby comic store! This was just icing on the cake.

The list I had of breweries were all defunct save for one and so I never really made a point to come back to this corner of Washington in search of beer. But this summer I did for sightseeing purposes and came across Angeles Brewing and Supplies. It's more of a place that has guest taps but there was one brewery that caught my eye I wasn't familiar with. Social Fabric Brewing was what caught my eye. It's a brewery that recently opened in Port Toensend and the same owners of Angeles Brewing. I got the IPA called Ready To Start from Social Fabric. It was good and enjoyable! Flavor features with this IPA are hoppy and kind of citrusy. The malts make it unique with Pilsen, Flaked Oats and White Wheat with hops like Citra, Mosaic and Nelson Sauvic. Angeles Brewing is a nice addition to the town and adds variety of beers here that I feel Port Angeles could stand to have.

For our mains we got the alaskan cod and chips and Blackened cod tacos and loved it all. They really know how to prepare tasty cod! The Alaskan cod and chips had the perfect crispy texture and my blackened cod tacos had all the flavor profiles you need. A hint of heat in the Thai chili slaw with a creamy avocado, Crema and the brightness of mango salsa and of course a touch of sour with the HOUSE made pickled red onions. Even better they let me substitute corn tortillas in for the flour. But you can't mix and match your proteins. I didn't need to because I loved both of my blackened cod tacos. The atmosphere is in the name: cozy Gastropub. They have a plethora of beers on tap, but parking is solely on the street so a little bit more challenging than picking your beer but I don't think it would be too challenging if you're up for a small walk. Alot of games on hand where you can play something simple to some that will make you literally laugh do hard you need to visit the lavatory. This is a most definitely visit spot. It was a perfect way to spend a few hours. It was a pleasant Spring afternoon and it was busy. There is seating indoors and outdoors. We chose seats at the window indoors. Once a big crowd left, it was a lot more pleasant for us -- we like a bit of space and quiet brewery whenever possible. It seems timing, depending on what you prefer is the key to success when visiting here. The beers were delicious. I went with a dark beer, high abv. It was the Doppelback. My husband had a saison Brett for ironic reasons. They were both delicious. It was so lovely just hanging out and enjoying the brewery. Staff were friendly and seemed like they loved every bit of their job. The washrooms were clean. There was a Mac and Cheese pop up stand/truck. Families ordered from it while we were there and the kids sure seemed to enjoy it. Parking can be tricky when it's busy. We ended up parking on the side of the road. Who cares, though. Also, we decided to sit outside since we had our pooch with us on this road trip. Staff/waiter/bartender was super cool asking if we wanted a bowl of water for our pup...which we did and thus found that super accommodating! Patio was spacious with several large picnic tables with umbrellas. It was a quiet time of day (mid-afternoon on a weekday) with not many patrons, so we basically had the entire patio to ourselves. Service was unexpectedly a little slow this visit...which was weird because there were probably only 3-4 other tables requiring service while we were there. I ordered their Meat Lovers and thoroughly enjoyed it once again. Love the flavors of the meats they use! Wife ordered their Margherita and it was pretty good...not knock your socks off good mind you...but better than average I would say. We continue to recommend the joint! If you're in Sequim and craving pizza...this remains a solid offering!

What a chaotic and unwelcoming place! Let's start off by the way you order here. There are three…read moreways to order. You can use a very unorganized and cumbersome QR Code system, wait in line and place your order under the BIG SIGN that says "Order Here" or sit at the bar and a server will come to you. The problem here is that you will be ignored at all three. When someone does that your order it is very random which of the three they are going to take your order from. The TV board menu on the wall is NOT the complete menu. If you want the complete menu you will have to use the QR Code. The problem with their QR Code menu is that it's unorganized, way too long, and kinda random. They have Root Beer in the Beer section. The menu is kinda scattered. The prices were from a little high to outrageous. For "extras" you are charged outrageously prices for a few small slices of bread. The staff looked like they were overworked, overwhelmed, tired, and unhappy. Their attitudes reflected the same as well. They were NOT friendly at all. The costumers too looked unhappy too. No one was enjoying themselves. The place was over crowded with tables and chairs. Everyone was brushing up one another trying to eat. At the same time you are being brushed against a wall of people waiting to order while you're eating in this tiny place. With everyone breathing down your neck you are made to feel rushed by the other costumers. The food took forever to get out. Even two bowls of clam chowder took forever. We ultimately used the QR Code ordering system. We waited to long that we actually thought the QR Code system did not take our order. Other than being very short on staff. We say they primarily concentrated on the oyster bar. The staff spent more time shucking oysters than dealing with customers. The actual food was just "OK" to "Meh". Nothing really special here. To make things worse they have no real side dishes like fries. All in all.... This place is NOT worth it. Go elsewhere.

Whistle Buoy is located in a Market Square that's a beautiful open air area surrounded by shops, boutiques, restaurants, assorted businesses, and vast tracts of land with chairs and tables. Since it's surrounded by buildings on all four sides the wind would be challenged to ruffle your hair once inside. For this stop of the Ale Trail excursion we were each allowed one glass (not a taster...a full 12oz glass) of one brew. They have roughly a dozen taps that run the typical gamut of beer styles. I immediately gravitated toward the Shaft Coffee Stout. Not my usual go-to, (I'm usually more of an IPA / Pale Ale kinda guy) but something about "Dark. Coffee. Chocolate" grabbed my attention (Here's the part where Jim has an advantage. Jim's wife doesn't drink beer, so Jim gets her selection, too, so she (ok, I) chose the Froth Hazy Pale for hers (ok, for me).) I didn't expect the highlight of the excursion to be the very first beer I had, but the Shaft Coffee Stout was quite possibly the best beer I've ever had. It was smooth and rich and had such an amazing flavor. Honestly, it was more like dessert. I'm not saying my wife's beer (ok, my 2nd) wasn't awesome, it's just that the Shaft set the bar REALLY high. ( I'm just talkin' 'bout Shaft! ) Our group sat in the outdoor, covered beer garden, the weather was slightly overcast, and we were surrounded by like-minded beer lovers (except my wife, who donates to my cause.) As we sat the Market Square was busy with life as people walked their dogs, visited businesses, and a group of elementary school kids was escorted through the square. Sometimes it's nice to sit back and watch the world go by. The restrooms (gender neutral, thank you) are small...ok, tiny. There's barely enough room to change your mind. I do have to call attention to two things, though. First, it has the tiniest sink I've ever seen. Surely this thing had to be custom made. Second, they have a Code of Conduct posted on the wall, which I genuinely appreciated. Nothing outrageous, just a focus on respect and common decency. If I were able to get Shaft Coffee Stout at home I'd never leave home (actually I would just to get more Shaft Coffee Stout). It was only a brief visit to Whistle Buoy Brewing, but if I ever found myself living in Victoria, BC, there is no doubt this is where I'd hang out.
