Handy's Used Car Dept

My experience with the Service Department was so unpleasant that I will never return to Handy's for…read moresales or service. I bought a 2017 Subaru in April 2024, had the oil changed at Handy's in October 2024, and when I took it for the free inspection in January 2025, I was told it needed $7900 in repairs. My own mechanic fixed it for $1200. Either Handy's does a horrible job inspecting cars or they're trying to scam customers into unnecessary repairs. Or maybe they just sell damaged cars in the hopes that the customer will buy another vehicle when they offer "more than market value" for the car they sold you. Regardless, no more Handy's for me.

I recently went to look at a car I found online. When I arrived, the salesman was friendly and…read morequickly got me the car I wanted to test drive. The car was in good shape and condition so I had considered it as a possible purchase. This is when it all turned sour. I was offered a trade in value for my car that was grossly too low. I had been offered up to $3000 more at other dealerships. When I told him that, he stated that he was giving me a break on the car itself, which ,all added together, would even out. However, he was NOT discounting the car at all. The "value" of the car he presented me with was $3300 more than the value listed on Kelly Blue Book. I felt like I was haggling with him just to give me a FAIR purchase price and FAIR trade-in value, forget a discount. I felt that he was relying on me not to ask him questions, but when I called him out on his lies he would just lie more. All in all, this was the WORST dealership I have ever dealt with. The cars are overpriced, the trade-in values are too low, and to top it off, they employ some of the sleaziest salesmen in Vermont. Don't waste your time!

If I could give a zero I would!!!!! He sold my family(my fiancé, and baby girl) the worst vehicle…read moreEVER!!!!! The quality of the car ,or lack thereof, is not he issue, its the fact that the owner lied to our faces. We purchased a 2003 Impala for $3600.00 plus powertrain warranty and when we asked about the condition he said everything was great. My fiancé even asked about some rust he saw by laying on the ground, and he said it was just a little flaky rust, nothing to worry about. As we left his driveway the brake warning light came on and we puled across the street to check it out, there was an enormous rust spot straight through the brake lines, I called and after a while I got him to give in and his guys fixed it. A month later I brought it in for inspection and found that we were driving in a "totaled" vehicle. The mechanic said that he couldn't let me take it back when he was there.(so we ad to pick it up after hours) The shop I brought it to put it on a lift and showed me al of the GAPING rust holes and BENT components for the suspension. HE FLAT OUT LIED TO OUR FACES AND PUT AL OF OUR IVES IN DANGER, WE ALL COULD BE DEAD BECAUSE OF HIM RIGHT NOW!!!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM HERE, IF YOU DO I HOPE YOU HAVE A SHOP WITH A LIFT TAKE A LOOK AT IT FIRST. HIS WARRANTY THAT IS OFFERED IS ONLY TO TRICK YOU INTO THINKING THAT HE SELLS GOOD STUFF. DO NOT BUY!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!! DO NOT BUY!!!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND FOR EVERYONE'S SAFETY DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!

I bought a Ford Taurus from Ed White. It's the first car I bought with my own money, it was the…read morefirst car I drove and it ran really well. I liked it and it was comfy, the price was right for what it was. $3000 for a car with a cracked front bummer (just cosmetic), 127,000 miles (I think?) and it was clean inside. Filled out the paperwork and got the car a day or two down the road. Ed told me if there were any problems to bring it in right away. If you heard the way he said it you might have gotten the same bad vibe that I did. With in days of having this car the check engine light comes on. I bring it in, one of his mechanics check it out. He claims that he doesn't know what the code means and brushes it off, he turns off the engine check light. A month down the road I go to get a oil change, I'm feeling suspicious of the car being a "lemon": Brakes are squealing on occasion. It hits bumps hard. I visit my trusted mechanic and ask them to check the struts. They are ALL bad. Not something that would have happened in the short time I had the car. I had asked Ed white to put summer tires on the car and he had them put on, how did they not notice the struts? Just ignored it? I brought it to Ed white with the paperwork that my mechanic gave me stating it needed new front brake pads and 4 new struts. He did most of it for free except the back struts, which he conveniently ignored. Once I picked the car back up, I received the same condescending "lecture" about how I should bring the car back to him if anything goes wrong. At this point I decide I'll never get either of my cars worked on by him, nor will I buy another car from him, of course not. I've heard bad thing after bad thing about him from coworkers, other mechanics in the area, and friends. I actually had someone say to me "You actually bought a car from Ed white? I didn't think anyone went to him anymore." Anyways, my AC compressor started to run very loudly and a week ago, my car breaks down and the serpentine belt is very loose on its track. I get it towed and fixed up at a different place (not good either, review to come soon!). $500+ to get that fixed. Needless to say, I will not be buying another car from a used car dealership. I was being generous when I gave him 2 stars instead of one. Fixing the struts for free was nice and a free set of summer tires to replace the nice studded tires on the car really had buttered me up to him, temporarily anyways. Go to Ed White at your own risk! I did have a coworker tell me she didn't have any issues with a car she got from him.

After being in an accident in St Albans the police called Ed White's to tow my car. The officer…read moreasked where I would like it towed and I told him the name of my usual local mechanic. The officer said he was familiar with the local shop and confirmed with me before I left the scene where it was going. After several hours I heard from my mechanic the car had not arrived, and when I followed up with Ed Whites they claimed they were never told where to bring it and took it to their place. After following up with Ed White's and finally getting it towed to my mechanic I was told that this is a classic ploy to charge for having my car parked in his lot rather then towing it directly to my mechanic. Overall I feel taken advantage of on an already difficult day.
