Handy Mart, Boscowen St, Winchester, VA. Sunday afternoon, 1:15pm, February 9th, 2020. Though I have been boycotting all area Handy Mart's for years due to downright dismal customer service - rude staff, never having fresh decaf coffee made, staff walking away from front counter when you walk in, incompetent employees, horrible and ignorant managers, no paper in the outside gas pump printers, long slow lines, inventory problems with cups, croissants, donuts, coffee, broken lottery machines, no one knowing how to issue or validate gift cards, and 5 complaints to corporate headquarters over years with only one response on initial complaint, but no changes in procedures or mgmt or employees - I was visiting a friend at the store as they had some coffee. My 75 year old mother walked in as she does nearly daily, as she has done for nearly 20 some odd years, and bought some decaf coffee, and a newspaper. When she left, the Handy Mart female employee walked over to where a dad and young daughter were seated and where I was with my friend, and the employee started yelling ever louder, seemingly in an attempt to "make sure I heard" how she 'hated that lady' (simply because she had asked if the decaf coffee was complimentary because she had to eait for some to be made - which is Handy Mart policy), etc. complaining out loud for nearly three minutes to this dad customer about my mother, in front of me. I simply told my friend we need to go. I reported this to corporate and NEVER heard back. I followed up. No response. I asked my mother whether there was trouble when she had checked out and she said none at all. My mother, and my friend, will now join me in boycotting Handy Mart. They've gotten too big to care about their customers, and most of their employees. I HIGHLY encourage everyone to rethink their patronage to these stores. No one deserves to be treated to such disrespect, insults, dismissal, and no action at all by mgmt or the very owners getting rich off this behavior. I know the president of the company and used to enjoy her customer service, but my willingness to overlook this crap has ended, and any pleasant thoughts toward Handy Mart have soured. Despicable and unconscionable treatment of customers. It is my firm hope many more will stand up against their arrogance and boycott all Handy Mart locations in the Winchester VA area.
