I figured it had been a while since I got a haircut so why not try somewhere new? The shop itself was decorated really well. I made an appointment with Kayla and she gave me a great cut. I needed to ditch the longer hair I had been growing out and get cleaned up for a wedding. Not only did I get a good haircut but she also lined my beard out for me too. This spot was really great. I will definitely be back the next time I decided to get a cut.

I like Steven. I like his barber shop too. I long for the old days when a man getting his hair…read morecut meant just that. No pomp. No frill. Just a straight razor, scissors & clippers, all in the hands of a crotchety old man who couldn't care less about you and your problems (after all, he isn't your bartender). Steven is hardly a crotchety old man. Not by any margin. However still, sitting in his chair feels like the good ol' days once again. He gave me a great, close haircut, even with shaving cream on the fur on the back of my gorilla neck. Didn't even try to engage me in conversation either (a good thing, as I am not his bartender). I actually started a conversation with him and it when as such: Me: I see there's a salon right across the street. Steven: There used to be a barber shop a few doors down too. Me: And you must of put him right outta business, I see! Steven: No, the guy died. I like Steven, and his barber shop.

Parking was widely open on Main and I was seated only a couple of mins before I was seen. Overall a great experience! I don't know that stylists get enough credit for being on their feet and using their hands all day while having to maintain a sunny disposition (despite whatever they may have to manage in their personal life and/or the myriad of oddities they likely have to endure at the hands of clients).... the salon here certainly deserves that acknowledgment. My visit to Tonic was a truly refreshing break from the hectic realities of life to thanks to their upbeat, welcoming environment with a very genuine and engaging stylist (who heard exactly what I wanted and delivered it!). It is clear that Allison seems takes great pride in her work and emulates a strong confidence in her approach (seems well deserved!). Equally skilled and engaging, Allison was a true pleasure to spend time with and be styled by. I hope the very best for her in the year ahead. Another facet of this visit that stood out to me was the very clear affinity the stylists seem to have for one another with frequent shared laughs and dialogue. The salon's commitment to high quality (less or non toxic) products is also something I appreciate. I'm very glad to have found Tonic and to have had the chance to meet Allison; definitely recommend both the location and this stylist and hope to visit again when I'm back in town!
