I went because I had a gift card, and I got the membership because the services and staff were fantastic. Now I have seen other reviews about the front desk but I had pretty great service from the front desk, every time I have gone. Always polite, attentive and helpful. I do pre check in, super easy and quick. I have had great services. I realize there is a uniform way to get your massage and facial but they also listen to your concerns and needs then tailor the service to that and personally I prefer that. The staff asks me my concerns, what areas I want to focus on and mold the service to fit what I want. I also saw a review that stated the therapist was quiet and could be friendlier...being quiet and reserved doesn't mean unfriendliness. It's not a yapping session. It's to go relax and address what you want out of your service. Personally I prefer the quiet. I had a facial by Karen and Lexi. Both different but both very good. My facial by Lexi was so good I literally fell asleep at some point and pretty sure I snored. Sorry girl. Sean was my massage therapist. He was thoughtful and listened to my focuses. I told him the areas and pressure I prefer and he did amazing! I am pretty sure I was zonked out about 30 minutes into that service too. I would say, be honest, and upfront about what you want out of your services and you will have an amazing time. I liked my services so much I got the membership. Recently, I was hospitalized for something totally unrelated to a massage. The Zep Bound side effects put me in the hospital, and now the sales manager thinks I should get a physician's note to get a massage. She pointed to a little note that says it expires after 1 year from date of purchase. i said it was a gift i have no idea when it was purchased. they wouldn't budge and would not accept my card. Third time went there. The masseur named Catherine was horrible. She didn't know how to massage at all, and from beginning to the end, only 40 minutes. Then she asked, how you feel now? Better? My therapist was Ashley and she was fantastic. i didnt wait more than two minutes to be brought back and we started pretty much immediately. I am unfortunately backed up 12+ months of massages and they would not give me the courtesy of suspending my billing for a few months while i am away. I was SHOCKED by this. I decided to get a massage (between my regular massage appointments) because my body really needed it. Things have been stressful and I recently started working out again. So, I feel a lot of tightness and I came to Hand and Stone to feel better. Silly me, I read online that got stones are good for tension and I thought that I'll get an upgrade for some extra help. When I got there I requested the upgrade and waited. My masseuse was actually a few minutes late getting me, didn't start the massage until 8:10 and my "hour massage" ended at 8:58...but that's not why I was dissatisfied. She asked me if I had a hot stone massage before and I told her I'd had one once several years ago. She asked me if I knew what to expect and I said yes. I then added that I chose hot stones because I started working out recently and I felt like that may be good for me. She said ok, gave me instructions and left the room so I could undress and get ready. The massage was good...relaxing but I still felt tight afterwards. And she realized that too because after the massage when she walked me back to the room she mentioned that I am really tight I should just get a regular massage next time. She said I really need to be worked on. Huh????? So, this is the problem that I have. Why wasn't there some sort of communication/education for me BEFORE the massage was over. If I'd known that what I was requesting wasn't a good idea for me at the time I would've changed up. If it was an issue I would've let them keep the upcharge. I just truly wanted to feel better. So, here it is now 3 days later and I still feel the way I felt when I walked into Hand and Stone. I feel like coming there was just a waste of time, energy and money. Made an appointment and wasn't told I was supposed to let them know 24 hours prior to my appointment that I couldn't make it. Planned on going to my appointment 24 hours before and that same day of my appointment I got called into work and called and let them know that I couldn't come in. Nobody answered so I left a message. Got called 2 hours later asking where I'm at and I said I called saying I couldn't make it. Then I got charged 85$ because I didn't give them a 24 hour notice which I was never aware of because they never told me that. Will be going with any massage place but this I find it ridiculous I got charged for something I couldn't control or even know I had to do. I'm no Karen i was really looking forward to it. This place is hit or miss. The first time I was here, my facial was amazing! I just got my second facial there and I was not impressed. My first visit was so relaxing and I felt like I got my money's worth with the variety of massages and lotions that they used on me. The second time around, there was very little massage and more emphasis on using a hot towel to wipe my face, over and over. I know you have to remove the lotion from the face, but it was excessive. Also, she decided to spend several minutes rubbing my legs and ankles. I was under blankets. It was odd. I think I will try other locations before I write off this company completely. But my experience at Hand and Stone was amazing! The check-in was a little crowded, so I didn't get to fill out a form before I went back. My massage therapist was Tom, and I can't say enough good things about him! He listened to what I said about my back and the soreness I had. Then, instead of just giving me a general massage, he really focused on those problem areas. His technique was SO GOOD. I don't know what he did, but it felt amazing as he was doing it, and afterwards, my back seriously felt brand new. He was extremely thorough and asked me several questions about where I wanted him to focus. He even took the time to do various stretches on my legs and lower back, and it must have worked! Seriously do yourself a favor and check them out. If you ask for Tom, you won't be disappointed. I was very disappointed in my facial. It was supposed to be an hour long and it was about 40 minutes. I've had facials before and they usually massage your face and your neck. There was no massage, all she did was keep putting products on my face then using a hot towel to wipe them off. It could use a diffuser at the reception area with a nice essential oil so when customers come in it smells good . Also no essential oils offered for the massage however , I will say that the massage I received was excellent. Thorough. Just went on Sunday, my friend got me a gift cert for the holidays. She scheduled the appt so we could go together. I had been before but a different location. Was greeted nicely at the door, filled out my paperwork and sat and waited. I had Christine. She was amazing and had a really nice touch. I had put down that my shoulders bother me on the regular because of repetitive motion with my job. She managed to work them out thank god. I even dozed off a little when she was working on my feet! When I arrived the girls at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. I had my massage first and my therapist asked me questions about my problem areas and what I was looking for in a massage... which i really appreciated. It was the most relaxing yet effective massage i've had in a really long time! After that I had my facial and the esthetician was very knowledgeable about my specific skin type and how I could improve my skin regimen. My skin was glowing when I was finished! I'm still going to get charged anyway. I think that they would probably do just as well if they just offered their services on a normal basis and you could go whenever you wanted to. She no longer works there though so the last couple times I had some one else, I wouldn't recommend either. This last time though, just this past weekend, 3/15/14---had a great experience and would recommend the place to others. My masseuse was Rachel. She was fantastic. The environment was relaxing and the place was very clean. This was my last "membership" massage which is a bummer price-wise but for the membership renewal price, I believe $54, it was awesome. I live far away so they allowed me to share a banked massage with my sister for a small $10 fee. read more
