The parking lot was safe, and there were restaurants very close. I grabbed dinner at Wendy's and before we left, there was a Starbucks on the way back to the route. It was convenient for being inconvenient. We wanted to stop in Missouri, but with the awful rain, that was not in the cards. We left before being able to try breakfast, but the rooms were nice and the bed comfortable, so we got a good night's sleep before a very long last leg.

It is so unsafe here they have to lock the courtyard area because of a gun incident in the neighborhood that spilled into the courtyard.

Or if you are up to it you can cook a meal in your room in the kitchen. This is a great option if you are on a budget or need to stick to a specific diet (very difficult to do when traveling but not so bad when you can cook for yourself!). The rooms are ENORMOUS! With a little living area, kitchen and bed room these are more like apartments than hotel rooms. We all had a great night's sleep in the super comfy beds. I have seen other hotels renovate and have been a lot more organized, and waste removal is managed much better. The breakfast was not the best quality but most of it was edible. There was a meat dish that looked terrible. There were fruit flies visibly present, and bananas and oranges were very old.
