Beautiful Hotel, Wonderful Staff, Family From 'Ell'
I will never write a review just to spitefully hurt a business or throw out emotional verbiage to add to a readers already stressful day. I want to assist readers to use their hard-earned money wisely. If there is a problem, I will not share it without suggesting a solution.
I'm sitting here at 1am working since it is impossible to sleep anyway. We are in the room below the family from 'Ell'.
The family above us has used all of my tolerance. I'm tired.
My eyes are following the muffled sounds of children jumping from the beds and running to the opposite side of the room. The desk chair has been tipped several times and the legs of the chair can be heard trying to settle back to the floor. The adults must be sound asleep in another room, not hearing the chaos.
Last night, since we are the only room affected by the family above, my wife asked me how long we should put up with it until we call the front desk. I kissed her forehead and said, "Let's give them until midnight". At midnight we called the desk. The staff took immediate action and within a few minutes there was silence. Fifteen minutes later the muffled sounds of the jump off the bed and run started again. We called the front desk again and they reacted quickly. They would have gone again to the offending room if I had asked. But it was only one child jumping and running until 2:30 am. I can only imagine that the child had consumed a bottle of Mountain Dew and had to work it off.
Now, this morning, it is nearly 2 am. The staff had to make two visits to the upstairs room, but they were successful after the second visit. There has been complete and wonderful silence for over ninety minutes. The hotel security must have put a stop to the noise somehow. I am confident that security had used some sort of magic. But I'm wide awake, wondering if I will still be the first one to the dining room at 6:00, so I'll finish this review.
I write for pleasure, so I enjoy a nice cozy corner. My wife will join me soon after. I'll greet her with a kiss but silently take pleasure that I had outrun her to the dining room.
The hotel staff are wonderful here. The hotel is a great place to stay, surrounded by a quaint historical district worth exploring or enjoying a leisurely stroll. We enjoy staying here.
A seemingly simple solution would have been for us to pack our things and ask for another room. The staff here would have accommodated us in an instant. But I have all of my stuff perfectly laid out with chargers for my computer, phone, watch, earbuds, and other stuff as if I've claimed territory. My wife on the other hand, has one bag and could have easily placed the bag over her shoulder and moved. She's my super-hero, angel.
I am not a manager of a hotel, so I don't even know if it is possible for staff to assure that families with children are having a great time, they deserve it. And at the same time assure that other travelers get the needed rest. Is there some sort of algorithm that would see the reservation for seven with mostly children, and place them onto the first floor? In my ideally perfect world, the staff can assure the safety and enjoyment of families with a lot of children, and at the same time assure that other travelers are guided to rooms where they won't be affected by the fun.
I believe that my solution, even at any hotel, rests on me since I can book a room on the higher floors.
I've slept only eight hours in the last two days but my rating of the Hampton Inn hotel itself hasn't changed. We will stay here again. The staff are very well-chosen. I haven't met a staff member who wasn't friendly and helpful. Whatever we needed, the staff member at the desk would smile, reach down, and get whatever it was we needed, and place it onto the counter for us to take. I know what you're thinking, and I agree. There's likely a portal behind the desk where stuff can be retrieved.
We will be back. We love the hotel and the historic town surrounding it. read more
