Well, this is the case with the two fruit and veg shops at Marden Shopping Centre. The smaller of the two is the Marden Fruit Market, and although it doesn't stock the same amount or variety of its big brother down the hall, it does excel in Asian greens and vegetables and often has some really good buys on some really beautiful fruit. I occasionally feel sorry for the store, as it never seems to get the same level of business as the other (nameless) sibling, but it has been open for quite some time, so I would assume that it has some very loyal regulars and benefits from the added foot traffic of being in the middle of the mall. It is not the kind of Fruiterer that you would go out of your way to get to, but it is worth scanning the prices as you walk past because you may just get those button mushrooms for $6 a kilo....bargain!

You have to travel through an industrial area in Glynde but the little shop is hard to miss, what with it being attached to an enormous cheese making factory. When you go into this tiny little space you will first be shocked by how busy it is, and second be shocked by how hungry you are: everything looks and smells amazing. And so cheap! La Casa Del Formaggio is a family owned Australian business that started in 1988 when an Italian couple started a little shop providing the food they missed from Italy, they're now making 30,000 kilo's of cheese a week. The shop also has lots of dips, nuts, and assorted continental gourmet treats. If they have brie in Heaven, this is what it tastes like.

Next door is a greasy cafe, health food store and butcher, not to mention a supermarket for good measure. Anywho, Fruita Bella is the larger of two fruit and veg stores at Marden and stocks everything you would normally find at such a store. I more often than not grab my healthiness from here rather than the supermarket because it is generally cheaper and they often stock some herbs and varieties of veg that aren't the most common. The selection of Mushrooms is also pretty good and they go really well with the fat, juicy Porterhouse that I buy from the butcher next door! Sometimes, if you are lucky, they have super specials that beat the pants off of supermarket prices, but these are pretty unpredictable.

It's almost as good as going to the markets and the prices are very reasonable, riding between market and supermarket dollar values. Okay - maybe it's just me, but I'm also into nuts and seeds and soy stuff and these guys have all the basics you will need to keep your naturopath approved temple in good running order. If you're more of a gym junkie, Marden Health also stocks all those strange powders and pills that are the standard accoutrements to your mysterious hobby. The point of difference is that they stock fresh juices which are damn hard to find elsewhere... so when you just gotta find FRESH (not ocean spray, or any other supermarket brand) cranberry or blueberry juice for Iggy pop within the next 24 hours Marden Health is the place to go. They cost so much it's evident they've been hand squeezed by faries... but I don't think popstars really consider financial trivialities like $40 juices.

We are left with a shop that sells mediocre merchandise - cakes that taste like cardboard, minute oysters, and other tasteless products etc. I have bought "specials" that are mostly off or stale tasting.
