Lancaster is the pretzel capital of America, so when in Rome... This shop was recommended to me by a local. I was expecting to stay there for a while, but I'd recommend budgeting about 10 minutes for this destination. You'll be able to take a picture with a pretzel sculpture near the parking lot, take a peek in the back to see people hand making pretzels (they need a clearer window), and then head into the shop. The shop itself is maybe 15 feet by 15 feet. It is jam packed with things like pretzel themed socks, pretzel scented candles, pickles, mustard, cheese, and other stuff that goes with pretzels. But you are here for the pretzels! I consider myself a pretzel tolerator. But that's because I have never had a good pretzel until I came to Hammond's. They are super fresh and they pack a serious crunch. My favorite is just the large salted dark pretzels. These are hand made (the smaller ones are machine made). I tried a bunch of flavored ones as well. My favorites were Honey Mustard and Cheddar Ranch. Garlic Parmesan was ok. Thought it was too much garlic and not enough parmesan. Garlic flavor is a bit harsh too - like most of it coming from garlic powder or equivalent. I wasn't a fan of the sour cream and onion. Very different flavor profile from what I was expecting (flavor that goes on chips).

This is a childhood memory for my wife! We get these every year, but since we are in Pennsylvania we just had to stop! Super nice people

Have you ever had a Hammond Pretzel? These pretzels are incredible. The friendly staff greeted us as we walked in and you notice all the pretzels of many flavors on racks near the door. Across from the counter you see a large oven pumping out thousands of hot pretzels. These are hard pretzels not soft pretzels like you find all over Philly but they are really fantastic. You like chocolate you say? Well just get the dark chocolate, white chocolate or milk chocolate dipped pretzels. You can also get bacon and cheddar, garlic, plain, and other flavors. We were greeted with generous samples and I even got to take a pretzel as it rolled out the over conveyor belt which was amazing. I have never had a pretzel hot like that as it was rolling out of the oven. Great iconic place to visit. Parking is easy and you can park in the front on the street or they have a lot in the back with clearly visible signs. 5 stars.

I love Hammond's! Hammond's Old Fashioned Hand Made Pretzels has been around since 1931 and offers Dark, Extra Salty, Light Salt, No Salt, Regular, and Salty pretzels, as well as Milk/Dark/White Chocolate and Peanut Butter covered pretzels. I absolutely LOVE their milk chocolate covered large pretzels, as the pretzels themselves have the right amount of crispiness in its exterior, super fresh, and perfectly salted; the milk chocolate covering is generous enough, and the sweet and the salty combo that you get from these is just really satisfying! They also have some specialty items, such as covered confetti pretzels and pretzel clusters. Make sure you stop on by this location - there is a free lot in the back, and the staff here are friendly! +milk chocolate covered pretzels! +delicious crispy pretzels! +free lot in the back +friendly staff

The factory is located down a small driveway behind a house.

After getting a bag of Dark Hammond Pretzels at the local market, I was excited for the opportunity to visit the bakery. Once we were there I was disappointed to learn they don't give tours. You can peek in the outside windows. The good news is that they have a small store and we were able to buy some of the dark (burnt) pretzels. Yum!

Delicious pretzels. They were rolling out of the oven while we were there. We found the factory while visiting the Lancaster area.

There are pretzels and then there are Hammond's pretzels. No comparison. Hammond's makes the best pretzels anywhere.

Fantastic food, service, and beers. Have visited a couple times over the past few months -- just…read morethe hubs and I, with a small group of friends, and with a large family group for a birthday -- and have been really pleased with the consistency of the experience, no matter how many of us there are, everyone has left more than satisfied. THE SYSTEM/ORDERING // Menus are on the tables, select what you like and order from the bar. Get your pour card so you can self-pour the beers of your choice -- try a little sampler or commit to a full pint, the choice is yours and you pay by the ounce instead of by the glass! I've been so impressed by how easy the system is to use and how many delicious brews I've been able to try for a really reasonable price! THE FOOD // The pretzels are the perfect shareable size for two (they don't last long at my table), the sandwiches are very generous (Turkey and avocado club was enormous, and the pulled pork was juicy and sweet), and the strawberry/blueberry salad was fantastic. They often have specials, too, like coney dogs. THE BEER // This is why you're here, right? There's been a really great variety of styles each time I've visited, and since it's pay-by-the-ounce, I've been braver about trying styles I'm less familiar with or trying styles that I don't typically like just to see if TF can change my mind. My favorites so far are stouts and IPAs -- Knife Fight in a Phone Booth (NE hazy IPA), Mint Maverick (imperial stout), War Bonds Breakfast Stout (oatmeal), and Because I Was Inverted (BIWI) Mango (milkshake IPA). My husbands favorites are the Blue Raider (Kolsch) and Calypso a unleashed (double IPA), which was a collaborative release. There is a cooler of cans for your take home pleasure, too. THE ATMOSPHERE // The space is decently sized, with a variety of regular and high-top tables, and a little makeshift bar near the ordering line. Inside they have a few TVs going, too, usually with sports on. Outside, they have additional seating that will probably fill up quickly once the weather warms up a bit. PARKING // parking is limited on their side of the street. The old Fulton bank is permanently shutdown, so people use the drive through lanes for parking, but there is a little lot right across the street for TF guests, and no one will block you in there.

We parked across the street in the gravel lot, signs have the buildings number (252) on them designating the spots. Building does have stairs, but they also have a small lift for handicap accessibility. Interior looks exactly like you would expect in a place like this, full of wood everywhere. Due to COVID restrictions, you have to order food, and they have a basic menu that includes things like hot pretzel braids. Our group sampled various Mead's and liked them, but they do offer Beer and Soda. Staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The highlight of the trip and worth every dollar was the axe throwing. You purchase a ticket at the main register, walk over to the throwing area, and sign in. They give you clear instruction how to do it and you're throwing. The instructor was great and very personable. The throwing is very safe and our group loved it, even when we didn't always find the target. Absolutely would return here.

This was my 2nd time coming to Mad Chef!…read more The first time I came here was about 2 years ago (before doing yelp reviews). I was not very impressed. This time around I cannot complain! Their specials are all revolving around the Masters which was unique! We tried the Pimento, Fried Green Tomato, Chicken Sandwich (The Pimento Birdie). This was a delicious sandwich that just screams Georgia! We also tried the Madfather Chicken Sandwich! Pesto, Vodka Sauce, Mozzarella, this thing was outstanding! The fries are always a highlight here! We got the bucket (had a bigger group) and it came with 3 sauces. 1 tiny little knock on the fry bucket....the entire bucket was not filled with fries. The bottom of the fry bucket had about an inch or 2 of crinkled up paper..... All of the food was outstanding. The beer was good. Tons of space and seating. Very easy ordering process. Go up to the counter, tell them your table number, and your food arrives shortly! Prices are high here! Expect a larger number on your check if consuming both food and alcohol!

Maybe what I smelled upon walking inside Mad Chef, were hops; I'm unsure. There was a lingering, unpleasant scent (hay/old peanut shells, an earthy staleness). When my food arrived, the scent dissipated. I purposely took a picture of the fish, on my fried fish sandwich, to illustrate what $17 and some change, looks like - very thin. The fish fry was tasty, slightly undercooked, soft crusted and soft bun, fresh condiments and those "pickles" were stellar. They were the best part of my meal. I would seriously purchase a jar of those pickles. Was wary of how hot honey would mesh with a pepperoni pizza, but surprisingly, the sweet heat and the savoriness of the pepperonis, worked well together. The only miss and it's a pretty big "miss," was the paper thin, tasteless crust, acting only as a vehicle to hold the toppings. Suggest you improve the crust and then, you'll have a stellar pie. Loved the peach bread pudding with brown sugar ice cream, but once again, for the price; the portion was skimpy. Liked the touch of homemade whipped cream, but it was overly whipped (stiff and tasteless), making it actually, impalatable.
