I felt as if it took a while for us to become a part of the community, but now that we know several families here, I am confident that no matter where life takes us, we will have lifelong friends. Heathwood has given my child a confidence he previously was lacking and has given us another element to our Columbia community.

My dance teacher Ms. Brown is truly one of the BEST dance teachers I have ever had, and I've had MANY! She is supportive and helpful and feeds my love for dance every time I walk into the classroom. The environment is no different throughout the school. The academics are wonderful and the teachers feel like comfortable people I can go to for questions and help with anything I need. The balance between academics and arts isn't something I expected to work, but after two years I can proudly say that I love this school, and I'm excited to be a part of its first graduating class of 2024!!

My surprise visit was just AWFUL. When I walked into the room, it was a complete mess and the…read moreprovider was sitting at the table having a conversation with a friend (who was not even employed by the daycare!!!). There was food all over the floor and tables. One child was walking around barefoot and the other children were lying down supposedly taking naps (but all of the lights were on). No soothing music or quiet environment was provided. Only one child was asleep and the others were forced to just lie there. My heart completely BROKE listening to one child cry relentlessly only to be yelled at to "Go to sleep right now!". I could hear him crying from outside and his cries lasted until I left (which was approx. 25 minutes later). The provider immediately began cleaning up because I was there and apologizing for the mess, claiming that it never looks that way normally. I began to look around the house (it's literally a house, no daycare-type layout) and visited the newborn/infant room which was being monitored by the owner of the daycare. That room was clean, quiet and everything appeared to be in order; however, she seemed to be quite bothered by the fact that I asked to look around. When I asked to see the outside play area, the employee advised that the children rarely go outside because the play area needs improvements and they were waiting on a grant to be approved before they could afford to do the necessary repairs. Which essentially means that the children do not go outside ALL DAY! After further discussion with the employee, she did inform me of a recent outbreak of scabies at the daycare which resulted in them closing down for a period of time while they conducted the clean-up effort themselves. She said that this closure caused several parents to leave the facility. Since being approved to reopen, they are now struggling financially due to the low number of enrolled children. Pricing for the facility was affordable and they even offer an afterschool pick-up for local elementary schools. But you couldn't offer me FREE tuition to send my children here. Ever. I feel so sorry for the children that are there and I sincerely hope their parents seek alternative places to care for their children because this place should not be in operation.
