Food is Bad and they have no waiters - they won't pay them. If you ask for another dish or you food is cold, they claim you are yelling at them. Maid service is a joke and they come every 2 weeks for 1 hour - it's not true and the work is not good. The service is not what it use to be and I would suggest to go elsewhere. read more

I am an entertainer and have played this community for 12 years. Right now they owe me for 3 months worth of work and do not reply to requests. I play over 25 communities a month and they are one of the most unprofessional. I would not recommend, there are many others in the Atlanta area who are on top of their game. It's a bad sign when facilities don't pay their bills. read more

My mom was here for over 16 years. She was supposed to move to the northeast with me when she needed more help. We discussed it further as her health declined. It was too obvious that she need her Hammond Glen family as much she needed us. So we made it work. The staff are very dedicated and interact to the residents as respected adult family members. Occasionaly some residents are challenging and can be difficult. I have watched them deal with them professionally with the utmost dignity and respect at all time. I miss my mom, but I know I always have a family at Hammond Glen. read more

My granddad did not like Hammond Glen, but said the staff at the front desk treated him kindly. He died on September 3 with unusual circumstances (having nothing to do with Hammond Glen) that required a crime scene investigation and more than a half dozen police, investigators, the medical examiner and the body removal crews. They were there for more than 3 hours. I discovered his body with a sweet young lady who let me in his apartment as I had forgotten my key. She was stunned to see me discover my granddad's body and profusely said she was sorry and even hugged me. Other than that, no one came up to to his apartment to check on family or express sympathy for our loss nor the loss of one of their own residents. I have been an administrator of assisted living/retirement centers and I would have been at my property that night. I would have even gotten out of bed when my staff informed me that we lost a resident and family was present. I would have arrived even faster with a crime scene crew in my building. Remember, the crews were there for more than 3 hours. After his body was removed, I stayed the night and fully expected someone to come to the room and communicate with me the next morning. I wasn't even stopped by anyone in the lobby. In their defense, it was Labor Day. Still, I would have come on Christmas had it been one of my residents. But that's just me. Anyway, the family and movers entered and exited the building over the course of days and had his belonging moved out on Thursday. When I went to settle the account I had to wait with residents in the lobby. When they finally brought me into an office, they didn't fully know his name. They asked for the full month to be paid and said I'd get a pro-rated refund from corporate HQ in Oregon. I didn't want to do that and proposed paying for the the days he was alive and the days we had access to the apartment, so up until that day. There was hesitation and she argued that some of his "discounts and credit" may not apply. I didn't really care about that. I just didn't want to pay thousands for the full month that we are not there. While we were moving we encountered the elevator nazi. I'm not sure what the (clearly uniformed) staff member's problem was but she was shouting and verbally abusive to residents. As an administrator, I would have fired her on the spot. Her behavior was inexcusable. One one of our final elevator trips down with the last of our belongings, the maintenance man brought a plant to his apartment. There was no card; not even a card stick with his name. I honestly this he was just being a nice man and brought the plant up from the lobby window. It bothered me also because now we have ANOTHER thing to move out of the apartment. I didn't want to refuse his kindness, though. Finally, I recently received an envelope from Hammond Glen. I expected some kind words on a template form signed by the administrator. It was check for $15. No note. No explanation. I'm stunned by the lack of compassion at Hammond Glen. The staff had a number of opportunities to make a simple gesture of kindness and neglected to do so. In both my capacity as a licensed assisted living administrator (in current and good standing) and as a family member cannot recommend the place. read more

My parents did not choose this community to live, but I wished to express how impressive the community and Community Director, Pam Poucher, were during our vetting process. Unfortunately, the location was just a bit too far from where my wife and I currently reside, and that Hammond Glen is licensed only as a Personal Care facility (versus Assisted Living). The facilities were extremely clean, well appointed, and the residents seemed extremely happy and attended to with care. Finally, the staff, particularly Pam, treated us with the utmost professionalism and respect, and followed up quickly and answered all of our questions thoroughly. If we were to choose a community for ourselves, my wife and I would consider this facility first! Please check it out, and consider Hammond Glen when looking into Personal Care for yourself or a loved one. read more

This is not an assisted living facility by state standards, only personal care. My mother was unceremoniously told she had to leave with no notice. Management tried to refuse her entry to her residence after she was in rehab, stating she didn't meet the requirements for staying there because she required too much care and needed to be in assisted living, which their web advertising says they provide. Staff is hit or miss but the ones who are subpar make it unpleasant for your loved one. One resident asked for her meds in the morning and the caregiver rudely stated it wasn't time yet. Her coworker had to remind her that the resident had a standing outing with her family and that she routinely took meds early so as to be ready to depart. This same staff person neglected to follow posted instructions for my mother's transportation and put her on the facility shuttle bus for an appointment, causing us to be charged for non-emergency transport that subsequently arrived to take her to scheduled appointment. Cleaning services subpar; food services are spotty at best, especially with recent restrictions. Meals served on styrofoam in some instances and choices are limited. This facility promises things they can't deliver in order to get your thousands of dollars a month. There is no refund even if you are told you have to move. If there were a zero stars option, that is what I would give them. read more

My mother-in-law has been there for about 8 years and initially she loved it as did we but now that she requires more care, the shortcomings have become more obvious. Both, the quality of the services and physical environment have been declining steadily, especially over the past 3 or so years. Even though Mom is on the assistive living floor and the patient care coordinator is extremely attentive and caring the care being promised is not often being delivered. They are supposed to help her get dressed but that does not always happen. Last week she was wearing socks that were soaking wet. Her room has smelled and the bathroom needed a good scrubbing. Often times, they run out of food at Sunday brunch because enough is not ordered and along with chipped plates and unpleasant wait staff with a very high turnover rate, it makes for an overall unpleasant experience. If your loved one is fairly independent and truly requires little care as my mother-in-law did initially, I am sure it is no better or no worse than any other similar facility. They all have their pluses and minuses. read more

I moved my mother to Hammond Glen from the northeast almost 6 years ago. I was extremely nervous about a move of this magnitude, however remaining in our family home alone was no longer an option. I can't say enough about this "hidden gem" in Sandy Springs. The entire staff became our family and mine, theirs. I am beyond happy with the care she receives and when extra attention is needed, it is seamlessly provided and I am thoroughly informed. I trust the 2nd floor staff with my precious mother with my whole heart. The communication between shifts and written documentation is thorough and at any time, all staff members can tell me how my mother's day was, how much tea she drank and how long she slept. I admire the pride the staff takes in performing their respective duties. I'm in awe of the professionalism and concern exhibited day to day and can only wish other elderly relatives and friends will be as blessed as we are to be members of a facility like Hammond Glen family. read more

Hammond Glen is such a lovely community with friendly, caring staff and residents. The longevity with the both the management staff and the residents contributes to a caring sense of family here. The building was recently renovated, and the decor is beautiful. The apartments are very spacious and quiet, and it is a very pet friendly community. There are plenty of activities such as games, exercise classes and outing such as museums and the theater, and there are plenty of friendly, engaging residents to do these things with. Being in the heart of Sandy Springs, Hammond Glen is close to the theater, parks, and great medical care including Emory St. Joseph's and Northside Hospitals. There are lots of great restaurants and shopping too, but the real beauty is that Hammond Glen is so close to all these places, yet it is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although it is predominantly independent living, having a home care company on-site and a personal care floor, this is a great community for aging in place. This gives peace of mind to the resident, as well as their family members. This is definitely the kind of community you want your loved ones. read more
