Located in Pembrokeshire, roughly a two hour drive from Cardiff. Hammet House is a hidden must-visit Welsh escape. Built in 1795 by Sir Benjamin Hammet, the grade II listed Georgian house has the perfect mix of old and new, with a clear focus on modern luxuries, great service and ultimate relaxation. The 15 Bedrooms are packed with contemporary style and luxuries, with Egyptian cotton on the beds, marshmallow pillows you sink into, flat screens on the walls and indulgent Ren products in the bathrooms. In the bar and dining room you'll find cool contemporary spaces to unwind, relax, eat and drink in, all brought to you with their easy-going yet impeccable service. *Hammet House is recommended in the Michelin Guide 2015. My Highlights: The Room: We opted to stay in the 'Good' Room and it's difficult to believe there are two 'grades' above this. My highlights include: * The HUGE floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the grounds. * Super King Size Bed. * Marshmallow Pillows. * The discovery of a small parcel inside my teacup which unwrapped turned out to be home-baked Flapjacks. * Bathrobes * Ren Toiletries * Fluffily Soft Towels. Dinner and Cocktails: Prior to our dinner reservation we were given the option to have drinks inside the library bar. My Highlights: * As we sunk into the Chesterfield armchairs a friendly member of staff came to take our drinks order. We tried both the Mango Frostini and Raspberry Frositni - the kinda cocktails that don't taste anything like alcohol - the best kind. * We ordered our evening meal without having to leave the comfort of our seats and were shown the way to our table post cocktails and complimentary nibbles. * It's here (if able) I would use a highlighter, glitter and ALL other means of grabbing your attention as our evening meal was UNBELIEVABLE and most definitely the most impressive two course meal I've EVER had! Again, merely typing out the menu wouldn't give it justice yet to browse the fine dinning menu click: http://goo.gl/9XmUJc I cannot recommend the Hammet House enough. Our entire stay felt like some sort of fairy-tale! What's more I continually discovered hidden extras and little details you wouldn't find in a chain hotel. ... yes, I have already planned my return visit.

On our arrival the owner, Martin, was immediately on hand to help with luggage and welcome us to the lovely Ty Mawr. We were delighted with our huge suite room, named after previous guest Kiera Knightly, the bedroom with lounge area was dual aspect overlooking the free range chickens and lovely grounds and larger than the whole of our own upstairs house! The luxurious and modern bathroom with a spa bath and rainshower made for a very relaxing pre dinner freshen up. The hotel suite rooms also have their own computers with free broadband, maybe not the speediest of computers but useful for looking up local places and event. Tea tray included delicious home made biscuits, only tiny criticism could be lack of variety with only standard but high quality tea and coffee sachets. An extremely comfortable and huge bed which we were sad to leave. The food, as the previous reviewer of Ty Mawr has written, is delicious and of a very high quality both for dinner and a wonderful breakfast...want more home made bread and toast yum.

The welcome from the owners is like being greeted by friends. I have eaten in their small restaurant on three occasions. On each occasion it was full. The clients include many locals who have, like me, discovered this little gem in the midst of West Wales. The food is sourced locally and the menu reflects what is in season. The rooms are generous and beautifully furnished with modern, lavishly fitted bathrooms. The hotel has 5 star rating and the restaurant has been awarded 1 AA rosette. I highly recommend the restaurant, the food is absolutely superb.

The rooms are recently refurbished but based on the original layout so they tend to be a good size with high ceilings. The inclusive breakfast included a good selection of cereals and also a traditional cooked breakfast options. The cooked breakfast was pretty good, although the sausages were rather bland. Dinner was much better. Starters cost £4.50 to £6.00 and included a fish cake and a ham hock and smoked chicken terrine. Mains range from around £10 to £20 and included a pork fillet dish, a stuffed chicken breast and Fillet steak with a pepper corn and mushroom sauce with potatoes dauphinoise or chips and seasonable vegetables. Puddings included some traditional English sweets, and cheese and biscuits. The food was very good, well prepared and well seasoned, but the gaps between courses were a little long. The hotel has a small car park which is rather difficult to find and the entrance is challenging. Drive North East past the hotel down to the church, bear left around the church and come back down behind the hotel on St Peter's Street then onto King Street. The entrance to the car park is a narrow alleyway on the left just after the Hugh Evans butcher's shop: swing wide to the right and turn hard left into the alleyway. Be prepared to fine tune your approach because the alleyway is very narrow not wide enough for pedestrians to pass a car, so breath in as you drive down! Once you have gone down the alleyway the car park itself is reasonable with room for about 13 cars. I enjoyed my brief stay at the Spilman's Hotel, and the dinner in particular was a very pleasant surprise: recommended.

Well we were stunned when we walked in, very tasteful, comfortable and elegant were our first thoughts. So much attention to detail we couldn't stop looking round and taking it all in. The staff were very warm and friendly, as the Welsh generally are, and made us feel at home. When we finally sat down to eat our meal in the light airy and spacious dining room we were very relaxed, happy and spoilt. But things were about to get better once we tasted our food. All the veg comes from their own organic garden and the lamb that most of us chose as our main comes from the salt marsh in the surrounding area, we'd never tasted anything like it. The meal was very good quality for normal restaurant prices and so was the wine and locally brewed real ales. Most of us had 2 courses and 2 drinks so the average price worked out at £25 per head. The toilets were clean and beautifully done and i was very impressed with the Ren smellies girls like these indulgences when they wash their hands. We relaxed in the bar with some baileys on ice and a lovely warm fire. What a perfect evening. We asked to see the rooms and were so happy decided to come back with some family and stay for a night as an indulgence. We stayed mid week as it was cheaper £150 a night and with that came champagne on arrival, bed, breakfast and afternoon tea, which i strongly reccomend arriving early for. We wanted to make the most our stay so arrived about 2.30pm we had champagne whilst admiring our beautifully decorated rooms and then went across for afternoon tea which consisted of, tea, coffee, mini scones with cream, welsh cakes, sandwiches and other slices of delicious cake. Full and happy we admired the building once more and relaxed in the comfortable bar. We then went back to our rooms to change and sat down for dinner at about 7pm. Again we had a wonderful meal a few drinks and retired to our rooms, which we wanted to spend time in as they were also lovely. In the morning we had a delicious Welsh breakfast with loads of tea and sadly left our fabulous little retreat in this beautiful part of Wales. If theres one place you must come in your lifetime its here, we all thoroughly enjoyed it and the village of Laugharne down the road is also well worth the visit also, if not for its famous heritage as the poet Dylan Thomas's piece of Wales but for its sheer beauty.

We were visiting our aunt in Wales and we decided to stay at this hotel. We are a demanding family…read moreof four so we did give it a good workout :) Initial correspondence was through email and the receptionists dealt with most enquiries fabulously, there were a couple of occasions whereby questions were not answered fully or were completely ingnored. We arrived in the pouring rain (this didnt change much over our stay). We checked in which went smoothly and were shown to our rooms. Initially we thought they were fab then realised that there were no wardrobes or indeed any storage space in either of the rooms; only one tiny bin in the bathroom, which was very nice but could have done with a bigger bath as there was plenty of space, and no fridge. Oh and our TV did not work even when the batteries in the remote were changed twice within the week. Anyway we met up with our aunt and her family that evening and we decided to eat at the restaurant at Hurst House. There were two menus, the daily and the a la carte. Neither menu was fantastic but they were adequate. Within our party there was a gluten free menu and a complicated vegetarian menu. The staff had been told well in advance but nothing was said to us about our choices and I had to make a fuss. Anyway the meal was fine and everyone enjoyed what they had. We went to bed but didnt sleep much. Breakfast the following morning and the hotel had made no effort to aquire gluten free bread or sausages for breakfast, which was disappointing but as always had taken some bread with me. There was no options for our daughter to have a cooked breakfast either as there were no Quorn options to replace the sausages etc. Breakfast service throughout the week was very slow if you wanted hot drinks or hot food or indeed if the juice needed refilling. There didn't seem to be anyone looking out for items running out and replacing before the event which meant that a guest had to specifically track someone down to sort things out. Over the week the reception staff and a couple of the staff in the restuarant helped to make the week fantastic. However food did get put on our bill from another table and spelling mistakes on the bill ie cawliflower and exhebition, together with some staff who gave the impression that they were working under sufferance, together with having to keep asking for toiletries to be replaced did put a bit of a dampener on it. There is a small gym with state of the art equipment, bike, rower, running and eliptical machines, the spa was lovely but with only two therapists and two rooms that did not work together it meant that we had to have treatments after each other and not at the same time which was a shame. The therapists used elemental herbology products which were lovely but the room got really cold and the therapist didnt check with me how I was doing or if I needed a blanket etc. She did ask if I wanted water after making her jump whilst having a coughing fit. Included in the price of the room is afternoon tea but again this was disappointing from a gluten free point of view. There was nothing for me to eat and only a couple of cakes for our vegetarian. The boys enjoyed the nibbles and the tea, coffee and juice were lovely. The reception staff were given a list of adventures to book for us and all credit to them, fitted everything in for us in the time we had, we had to cancel the paintballing because the rain was coming across the beach horizontally, but that was our choice and not the organisers. We tried land yachting which was amazing but boy did the muscles hurt the next day? The girls tried horse riding and only one of the riders got bounced and had to hang on for dear life whilst the other laughed :) The boys tried coasteering and whilst they were both dubious to start off with loved it and the challenges that came with it. They both show the grazes and cuts as if they were trophies of their time. All in all our time at Hurst House was lovely but their is still room for improvement.. We would having said all the above, go back to stay :)

The accommodation: Upstairs are two double bedrooms and one room with twin beds. The bigger double bedroom has an en suite bathroom with a toilet, bathtub/shower, and bidet. The other two rooms share a bathroom with a shower and toilet. A kitchen with a dining table, a full-size fridge/freezer, sink, and four-plate electric stove with an oven separates the master bedroom from the other two. The kitchen is stocked with toaster, plates, cutlery, saucepans -- plenty of facilities for in-house meal preparation. Everything is modern and clean -- it's a cozy, stress-free environment. Downstairs is a living room with wood fireplace and comfortable sofas that seat 4-5 people. Alongside is a "playroom" with beanbags and board games, perfect for kids. The area just outside the front door features a large grassy yard that's fenced securely -- an ideal space for pets to romp in safety. Plenty of hot water and radiators in all rooms keep you cozy at night. Lots of fresh towels and extra bedding if needed. Both bathrooms are stocked with plunger bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Fast wifi is provided so that you may keep in contact with the rest of the world (but you may not want to). We were pleasantly surprised to find there was no TV set in the house -- it was so good to get away from its incessant barrage for a time. This would be an ideal writer's retreat with its peacefulness and connection with nature. The vicinity: A large orchard next door affords a tranquil walk and myriad public footpaths lead to delightful glades, brooks, and forested areas that are quite magical. If you're into Paleolithic artifacts, many can be found in the area, most of them less than 30 minutes by car in lush and idyllic settings. The air is unpolluted and the nearby road has maybe two cars a day go past. It's a tranquil and healthy environment. The hosts: Philippa and Dan are available when you need them but will leave you alone to enjoy the place at your own pace and in your own way. They are dog-lovers, so bring along your pooch. Philippa has a trove of stories about dog rescue that will warm your heart and reveal the depth of her soul. Bottom line: Rose Hill is an excellent place to relax and unwind in south-west Wales. It is secluded, rustic, and peaceful yet offers modern facilities with civilization a short drive away (if you need it). We were very sorry to go, but hope to return soon.
