Today I called to set up an appointment for my daughter's guinea pigs and was told they have a new policy. They are now charging ahead of time a fee of $91 per guinea pig just to make the appointment, as a down payment before they're even seen. The woman on the phone said it was because some customers don't show up for their appointments. So, East Veterinary Clinic has decided that everyone else will now apparently be punished for those that don't show up. I told her that was too bad because we would need to wait until next week for pay day then, to schedule an appointment since we can't schedule unless we pay $182 now. My chiropractor does this too but they simply take your credit card info and hold unto it unless you don't show up to your appointment and are then charged a fee. Only the person who fails to show up is charged, not everyone else. Yes, they apply that $182 towards your appointment once there, but for college students like my daughters, that's a lot of money. They live paycheck to paycheck. They were going to get paid on the Thursday before the appointment on Friday, and it wouldn't have been a problem. I understand the Clinics frustrations with no-shows, but I think they need to find a better solution for this. My daughter called a few other veterinarian places and they do not have this policy. So, just be aware that now to make an appointment at East Veterinary Clinic in Holland, you will need to pay for your visit ahead of time. If you are unable to do that, there are other clinics in the area that told us they do not do this.

My other doctor from Indiana was correct, She exam my different cat, Jilly and found out that she had fever, She can't give her rabies vaccine until she get better and have no fever. Google show that sick cat with fever can't have rabies vaccine. They went ahead and give Chessie rabies vaccine. They didn't care about her allergy and fever. I took her to other vets for allergy vaccine many times since 2017 and don't require rabies vaccine. They care about staff and don't care if sick cats and dogs die from rabies vaccine. They just want to make money. They sucks.

Second visit here (unfortunately because no one wants to go to the hospital) and second time being pleased with the service. The doctors and staff are friendly and eager to help. Pray for kitty.

Despite that, the seriousness of her condition was not explained to me in a direct or understandable way at the time. I was initially given vague updates that my cat was "okay" and that testing was being done, but I was not clearly informed that the mass was pressing on her diaphragm or that her breathing issues could not realistically be resolved. Those details were explained much more clearly later by another veterinarian, after overnight hospitalization and associated costs had already occurred. In addition, I was told I would receive a call with an update in the morning, but I never received that call and instead had to contact the clinic myself. During an already stressful and emotional situation, this lack of follow-through added further confusion and distress. I understand that prognoses can be uncertain and that emergency situations are difficult. My concern is not that guarantees could not be made, but that the communication I received was too vague and incomplete for the seriousness of the situation. Even the clinic later acknowledged that communication could have been clearer. Had the situation and prognosis been explained to me more directly from the beginning, I may have made different decisions regarding hospitalization and treatment. I believe clients deserve clear, timely, and transparent communication when making difficult medical and financial decisions for their pets.

Two days before surgery, she contacted us via email to cancel because she doesn't feel like she is the best surgeon for the case. My dog has suffered for three weeks while waiting for this procedure. All of this could have been prevented had she actually reviewed my dogs file.
