A news mart...with no news. It's obvious that things have drastically changed since the last review for this place. I went to this newsstand in search for a newspaper for a project. I know it's almost 2026 and many newspaper producers have moved on to online media. 7-Eleven has very limited selections for newspapers. So, I did an online search for the closest newsstand and Hamilton News Mart came up. It's directly on Harford road. I've seen it many times as I drove by. It looks like an attractive old school news store...from the outside. I'm thinking that they have changed ownership in the last few years, but I could be wrong. I found a good spot right near the front entrance. As soon as I walked in, I knew something was amiss. Clouded bullet proof glass separated the cashier from the customer. I turned around and saw a completely empty rack near the wall. Not one paper, periodical, NOTHING. No magazines, not ONE. On another rack was some (very) random brochures/pamphlets. It looked like some kind of lottery/keno situation in the back. The whole place just seemed dusty and shady. I looked at the cashier and asked if he had any newspapers. He sheepishly said no. I was so perplexed because...newsstand?! Granted, it was after 4pm, but you can honestly get a newspaper anytime of day. It seemed as if they hadn't carried any at all & for a while. I really do not like giving out 1 star reviews, but I feel like people should know if a place isn't what it says in its name. If I had come here after work on a busy weekday evening, I would've been really upset that I wasted my time. This place is not a news mart. I honestly don't know what it is exactly. An icon for the business district, the Hamilton News Mart has every single magazine or newspaper you might be looking for. I can remember going there when I was just out of college. I've found magazines in there that I didn't know existed! It's amazing how much is in that tiny space! I never have a problem parking in Hamilton, but hey, I know how to troll for a space and parallel park. Guess those kinds of skills come with age and maturity. read more

Had our car towed even though we paid to park in the lot!!! Had to pay $250 to get our car back with little recourse. I will never shop in this area for fear of this happening again and suggest that others take my experience into consideration. read more

Parked in Hamilton Business Association lot, paid to park and go into restaurant. Car was towed even though we paid. Nothing worth that cost in Hamilton. read more

Upon entering, the ambiance was chill with music playing over the speaker with just enough volume to not get in the way of perusing the incredible book collection. The books are sectioned according to genre, which makes for ease in looking for a specific topic. They have a magazine section as well with titles you won't find in an ordinary newsstand (a magazine titled "Bomb"?.... I'm impressed). The cost of the books varied, but was not so to bust your budget. They also have a selection of comic books in addition to t-shirts and items with the Atomic Books logo. The staff were pleasant and customers who came in seemed to be locals supporting a great small business. I liked that. And don't forget I mentioned a bar....located in the rear....serving adult libations. Can you imagine yourself purchasing a favorite book and settling in at one of the seats in the bar sipping on your favorite drink? Or playing the video game back there? I could and would have...if I had the time! All in all, a cool neighborhood bookstore/bar to chill out, grab a book, and a drink.

All the books were reasonably priced, and service was quick and efficient when checking out. We had time to kill before a dinner reservation nearby so we walked in to see if we could find a book to bring with us to the beach. After searching through the shelves and seeing all that Atomic Books has to offer, my husband and I both found something that piqued our interest. I love shopping small and supporting local, and Atomic Books has classic Baltimore charm mixed with the unique punk vibes of Hamden. The next time I'm around grabbing a bite, I think I'll stop in and buy another book to enjoy.

I ordered a breakfast burrito, and it's been three days since I had it and I'm still craving the taste. Who knew you could make tofu taste so good? I didn't like my vanilla iced coffee as much, but that was my fault because I should have asked for more vanilla flavoring. I really appreciated how much parking there was on a Sunday afternoon, and in my opinion, it's one of the best co working spaces in Baltimore. We actually ordered a vegan pie from them for Thanksgiving and can attest it was delicious. Next to the coffeehouse is the two story bookstore. The ground level is full of books highlighting political and/or social subject matters, whereas the second floor seemed to have more regular fare. It's a nice inviting space for everyone - would recommend checking out.

But we were over the avenue, birthday shopping at World Market, with a friend and he wanted to check out the new releases, so we went inside. And WOW I LOVE the updated look! It looks cleaner, less cluttered. The whole store seems more spacious, and I didn't have to look out for other shoppers in aisles that I wanted to peruse - I'm hyper aware of the space I take up in my wheelchair. I love that the floor plan inspires customers to wander and explore. I found something delightful around every corner. I couldn't afford anything, so I left empty-handed, but I don't regret going inside. It's beautiful and well-lit.

While browsing, I loved how cozy the bookstore was, and the book selection was right up my alley. Not to mention how friendly and funny the staff is. If you want to support local bookstores definitely come to this one! Sidenote: the parking lot is behind the store, and the turn looks a bit questionable but it's the right one.

Cross Street Market

Cross Street Market has always been a great experience over the years. There is something here for…read moreindividuals, families, and date night outings. I do miss the old Cross Street Market before the complete renovation in 2018, which seemed to cater to the average local, however, the current, more modern market certainly is a gem in Federal Hill despite the more expensive food prices. I like the selection of cuisines featured. The diversity covers bar food, dinner food, quick bites, and dessert. And of course there are plenty vendors serving crab dishes. Some of the great vendors have come and gone, like the pretzel dog vendor which for a long time was the only reason I would visit Cross Street Market. I appreciate the seating made available in the areas near each food vendor. The space is utilized efficiently, from the storage of food in the freezers near the dining tables, to the small stages where artists perform. The market is a great pre-game destination and option to watch the game if you skip the stadium altogether. Keep in mind, on NFL game day this place gets packed, so arrive early. There is ample street parking in the vicinity, however, on game days finding parking in this neighborhood is a nightmare. Overall, a must visit when in the area.
