Attorneys do not negotiate with a judge, only the prosecutor 2. In Michigan you can never negotiate the number of points a violation carries. They are automatically assigned after conviction. Prosecutors cannot impact a matter that is only a State function. The way to reduce points is to have the case dismissed or amended to a different charge. 3. Traffic cases are prosecuted differently in each jurisdiction. Students at WMU often deal with a less flexible system than in nearby districts. Having a knowledgable attorney can give the best information and approach to increase your odds of success. " I am NOT a lawyer and I never claimed to be. I'm sure all traffic courts are pretty inflexible, but your best bet is probably to show up at court to fight the ticket by yourself and if the officer does not show up, you may have the case dismissed. No lawyer required. Like I said before this is an OPINION site and I'm merely expressing my opinion. I'm sure even this response can have the "magic" of the law waved over it to make it appear that I'm some random anonymous Internet person faking all of this, but you should ask yourself these two questions: 1.
