    Carolinas Healthcare System

This review is really two-fold...its about this Doctor who, for me, is the face of Carolinas…read moreHealthcare System and the only representative of that company's policies and procedures that I encounter on a regular basis. He chooses to practice for this type of company. its also about this firm who seems more aligned with the insurance companies than they are with their patients so be very careful about how you answer even the most general of questions. An inocuous question such as "So how have you been?" may result in an upcharge to the final bill should your answer be anything other than "I am fine." The answer to this question could result in your visit changing from "preventive care" covered at 100%, to an additional office visit classfied as "non-preventive" and covered at maybe only 80%...without your ever knowing it. What they call "split-billing". This seems to be the standard practice of this doctor's office. While, in my view, there is nothing unethical about this billing practice, there is a lot wrong with failing to disclose it. Failing to disclose during a scheduled "preventive" visit that the discussion/examination has changed to a non-preventive service with an add-on fee is a total lack of transparency. Leaving the patient with a BIG surprise coming a month or two later when the bill arrives. This firm believes they have satisfied this disclosure by providing lengthy documentation concerning split-billing at the time the appointment is made rather than at the time of service. This leaves the patient in the dark as to when and for what reason the Doctor has chosen to go off-script and start non-preventive billing. Taking the option of choice away from the patient is a lot like asking for a car-inspection and being billed for the inspection and all identified issues under a non-refundable policy. The car owner loses the option of knowing IN-ADVANCE the price, quality, reliability and necessity of the charges. Further, any decision to not pay based on non-disclosure WILL result in Carolins HealthCare System quickly referring your account to the major credit bureaus as a collection account. Thereby setting the patient up for months of effort to make them and the bureaus correct thier mis-deeds. During my most recent visit to this doctor, my answer to the question...So how have you been?... did not result in this Doctor taking any additional steps outside of a normal physical for a male.  He did, however, classify a portion of the visit as a separate upcharge...non-preventive diagnostic discussion...even though he did absolutely nothing different from a normal (preventive medicine) physical for a male. No X-rays no biopsy no skin test no viewing of an area not normally viewed as a part of a preventive annual physical. He simply said "I dont know what it is". Billing a large diagnostic fee for an "I don't know what it is" diagnosis seems very unethical. Carolinas HealthCare System seems to embrace the time-of-service non disclosure and unearned diagnostic charges so as a patient the time-honored Buyer-Beware seems very appropriate.

My husband and I both have gone to Mecklenburg medical Group or Atrium I believe they prefer to be…read morecalled now in Ballantyne . Anyhow, we have seen the SAME primary physician which I will remain nameless.. It isn't that he's no good .. I feel like he's looking /glaring straight through me as I am talking (not listening) so well over the last 3 years. My husband said he's probably "buying his time to retirement ".. Could be.. but they way I felt 1000% UNHEARD /didn't give two craps over my physical exam .. Mind you this is a well check visit .. funny thing .. my husband is sticking by him. Maybe he likes men. Prefers men patients . Who in the bloody hell knows. All I know..is I too feel the communication in this particular office is wayyy , by far, far from being even 50% good. They SUCK!!!!!! When you're sick you shouldn't need to have to be seen 3 times in less than 11 days for the same symptoms.. when I clearly knew I needed a new antibiotic for my bronchitis and a steroid shot. They just are all in it for the $$$$$. Run!! Run!!! Do not come here . I'm trying to become not lazy and actually have a true want to fill out 20 forms to transfer all of my medical history to another physician. They suck. FWIW.. I have tried another Dr. She SUCkED!! Anne something have no clue her last name (blonde) she is awful. Zero bedside manor. If you don't need any type of personality or feel of compassion than you would love her. Other Wise she seems 5 steps out of med school, know it all who is quite rude and condescending IMHO. I've also seen 3 different PA's there. Probably would only consider ONE of the 3... if I have no choice but to go back there. Awful practice! Awful

This is regarding Atrium Primary Care on Copper Way in Ballantyne. Yelp immediately brought me to…read moreMMG (who Atrium is a sister company of if not outright owner), so I'll leave my review here, specifically about HIGHLY OVERRATED Jennifer Sheldon, PA. This is what I've already sent to Atrium Corporate: Husband & I waited over an hour after arriving early for my 3pm new patient appt. w/PA Jennifer Sheldon. Receptionist was warm & friendly & we enjoyed speaking to her & other patients despite waiting a ridiculous amount of time considering the chart had a "green light" for today stating "running on time". An Indian woman came in at 3:20pm for a 3:20 appt. and was called back before us (not receptionist's fault, it was the "back" that stuck their head out and called for that woman). Asked receptionist why the back would call a patient with a later appointment in ahead of us. She wondered too & went into the back but had nothing to tell us as there were other patients entering & waiting for her. I didn't get called back until 4pm or later. Very nice tech took my vitals, all were good. Then the supposedly "WONDERFUL" Jennifer came in with pre-conceived notions and was nothing like the "5 star" PA/MD (some referred to her as) we'd read about. My paperwork made it clear that I am an insomniac who needs Ambien to help with sleep & that Xanax has helped me in the past with panic/anxiety (3 deaths in immediate family & spouse with heart condition which required a triple bypass last spring). Jennifer was rushed, condescending & blunt! She didn't ask one question other than had I seen a psychiatrist or a sleep disorder MD. Told her "no and didn't plan to & with reason. Jennifer then pointed to a Surescripts printout & said I had Ambien filled as well as Triazolam on 12/12/2023. SO WHAT? I made it clear I was there to establish new patient relationship and that I'd need Ambien & something for anxiety in future. She seemed to imply I was a drug addict and despite hearing about my husband's heart condition showed no concern for either of us, said she'd never prescribe any "controlled substance" (incl. Ambien) so we left. Would love to know who's giving her those fake 5 star reviews!!!!!". FYI, I do believe that complaint I sent to Atrium Corporate regarding PA, Jennifer Sheldon, was KIND to say the least! She's totally a cold hearted, snotty, uncaring "B" who only deserves minus reviews. How did she get 240-plus "five star reviews" on Google/Atrium after being at that small practice less than a year? Sounds like Daddy, Mommy or "Uncle Buck" pushed for them or wrote them personally (maybe she or her dog did -- don't know how she could have a husband who'd stay with her for anything other than family money). BTW, MY husband sat in on that miserable meeting & was so livid I feared he'd drive off the road as he angrily went on about her on the way home. Jennifer Sheldon is the WORST person I have ever met in the medical world, STEER CLEAR!!!!!
