This museum gives visitors several slices of that history, from bourbon and whiskey to racing to the Civil War and the tobacco industry. One of my favorite permanent exhibits is on the second floor. It's a room dedicated to Kentucky bourbon and whiskey called the Bourbon Bottle Hall. It's just a bunch of bottles of whiskey and bourbon on backlit white shelves, but it feels supernatural to step into the room and be surrounded by all of the different bottles. You got everything from your Elijah Craigs to your Pappy Van Winkles. What else? There were Kentucky sports mascot costumes on display, a life-sized wax statue of Colonel Sanders holding a bucket of his Kentucky Fried Chicken with its 11 herbs and spices, a little play area for children, a display of German toy soldiers, a display of costumes made by local students, and lots of other interesting things to look at. The Frazier is good for all ages, but it's mostly a "looking" museum, so there aren't too many interactive things to touch, which is why it might not hold the attention of really young kids. My tween and teenagers liked it, but they were done within about 30 minutes. It's a small museum, but I think it has a lot of cool stuff in it and definitely worth a visit.

Who knew there was a museum and factory dedicated to baseball bats in Louisville? More…read morespecifically, Louisville Slugger bats? Apparently, lots of people, because the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory was poppin' off when we visited. It was a weekday, and there were oodles of people. When you buy a ticket for the museum, you're also buying a timed ticket for the factory tour. Tours start promptly, so be sure you're in the tour start spot at your designated time. The tour lasts about 30 minutes (longer if you're in a group with people who ask questions), and at the end of the tour, everyone gets a miniature Louisville Slugger baseball bat to take home. My children enjoy seeing behind-the-scenes things, so they enjoyed themselves, and there were enough things to touch and see to keep them engaged. The museum itself is pretty small, but there are some interactive exhibits, and more in-depth tours you can take. We were satisfied with only surface knowledge of bats, thank you very much, so we were in and out of the museum in about an hour. That was plenty of time.

It's iconic. And now I can say that folks should also venture inside as well. We started by perusing the museum. If you are a baseball fan, this is definitely for you! It features uniforms, tickets, programs, balls, photos, life-size wax figures and -- you guessed it -- baseball bats used by big hitters in the game. A section shows you how fast baseballs are thrown by pitchers -- very fast! -- and I also appreciated the sections devoted to Black, women and Little League baseball players. And then we went on the tour of the factory. We learned about how wood is selected -- from very specific trees in a very specific forest -- for these bats, how quality is maintained, the specialty bats that have been commissioned (such as a Star Wars lightsaber bat) and how prominent players have an area where bats are made and stored specifically for them. Watching the CNC machine spin and carve wood into bats in less than a minute is downright hypnotic. I have much more respect for the craftsmanship and history that goes into Louisville Slugger bats now. Once the tour was done, we all got our mini baseball bats, which are almost as iconic as the giant bat out front. And my kids most certainly did not use them like swords for some play sword fighting (and by not I mean they absolutely did). Louisville Slugger is a definitely point of pride, and now I better understand why.

The tracks, the history, the building itself and the stories about jockeys and horses are all fascinating. The day we went unfortunately the weather was not good. Couldn't get a clear view of the track and landmarks. But it was very exciting to see the actual track. Parking is free. The gift shop is good. Lots merchandise for visitors to browse through. 2 horses in the barn when we visited. The museum itself is wonderful. Many historical information and artifacts. The Secretariat section is on the second floor. The fastest horse. And I learned that he had a bigger heart than any other horses. Might be a factor that he was fast! Absolutely a highlight of our trip in KY. It makes me actually want to come for the Kentucky Derby in May.

The museum has such amazing collection of the history of the event, the trophies, the horses, the jockeys, there was so much to see. There was a magnificent theater that gives the visitor a glimpse of the derby day activities. There a horse riding arcade for kids. A section is dedicated to legendary horse, the Secretary. The general admission comes with a free tour of the Churchill Downs and the race track. We got to be in the grand stand and learn much incredible facts about derby from our tour guide. One of the coolest things to learn was from what position horses won the races the most to least. The gift shop a lot of amazing merchandises, apparels, souvenirs and gift items. The parking was free. We spent about 2.5 hours at the museum. There was a horse barn as well in the back of the main building. It's the top destination for anyone visiting Louisville.

Do yourself a favor and arrive as soon as it opens, before the crowds, and it's lovely! Best kept secret is the construction zone. You can access it from the 2nd or 3rd floors, using the side staircases nearest the portland side of town. It's a less busy, fun space to decompress and my kids will play with the shovels and forts for an extended time. Outside drinks and snacks are permitted, but remember that you're traveling up and down stairs/elevators with whatever you bring in. Their snack options are basically just a vending machine, so we don't usually buy anything there. If you're able to buy a membership, I love having the dual membership with the zoo!

In short: fun for kids, not so great for adults…read more This isn't a museum but more of an indoor science play area for kids. We've been here twice in the last several years and both experiences were exactly the same. Same exhibits and the same 'old' feeling of worn out and dirty 'exhibits.' Some things are even broken. I was personally bored in here quickly. On the flip side, my son loves this place. He loves making paper rockets to shoot out to the floor below, building things in the construction/fort area, and watching the balls roll in the watershed exhibit. Making the weatherman video was a blast, as was playing with the air tubes that pushed out scarves. We spent a decent amount of time on each floor, with the exception of the top floor that didn't hold our interest at all. Then he was ready to go. We spent maybe four hours here each visit. We live about an hour and a half from here, so it's a bit of a drive. I was determined that we stay here longer than the time it takes to drive here. Might be worth the drive once or so to bring your kids, but not frequently unless you live nearby and your kids love this place.

If you know me, then you know I love art and free and this is exactly both!…read more I go here any chance I get to see what new art pieces are put up and when you walk in there are pieces to your right then you go the left and there's a wall projected of live footage of you but with letters falling as if it's a mirror, very entertaining and interactive then you keep going down the hall there are pieces hanging up in the conference rooms and when you get the chance to go downstairs there are multiple rooms to go walk through and even the restrooms both upstairs and downstairs have art as well! Once I went when they had Korean based art and it captured the beauty of the oriental style in a modern look and there was a story telling room where each art piece told a continuous short story which was such a neat concept! Last night when I had visited my partner and I got greeted by Darrel the security guard and he was very friendly and accommodating! Art can make you think, smile, and even laugh! I'm glad I was able to laugh at the beaded and sequin piece last night, it's eyecatching and makes you stay for a while.

To make matters worse, when we ordered, a single dish cost $22, which meant the "free" breakfast card didn't even cover one meal per person. This feels like false advertising. If you're going to charge guests $36 for breakfast, don't advertise it as "on us" or complimentary. Just be honest about your pricing. I expected transparency from this hotel, and instead got a confusing billing practice that left a bad taste - and not just from the overpriced food. I would not recommend staying here if you're expecting the advertised "free breakfast." In addition the pillows are HUGE and the front desk had no other options.

He conducted some experiments in the house, but the major and most notable ones were done after he was fired from his job and left the city. It is a very small house and there is a lot of free one hour parking on the street in front of the house. It is located in the Butchertown neighborhood, which was known for meat production. This house was built around 1850 and is a shot-gun duplex. It originally had a solid wall running down the center that split the house into two separate domiciles. I came here on a Saturday and the museum was not open. It is only open on certain weekdays. Its tour schedule is very limited. What kind of museum is not open on Weekends? So, all I got to see was the outside, which is pretty plain outside of the historical marker and small. It is well maintained and preserved though. I wish I would have been able to go in the museum, but I guess there is not a lot of demand to see it, so that have limited the time that it is open. Hopefully I will be able to make it back when it is open.

Entry into the museum was easy and several docents directed us toward the theater. We chose to use the main staircase, which was quite steep. Overall, a good value for our expectations for this visit and will keep tabs on the upcoming movie schedule to likely visit again in the future.

It was free admission. There is a private parking garage with three levels. I like the different exhibits everything from African mideastern Asian local artist. It was a great variety well displayed. I got to meet two volunteers that really gave a lot of insight on specific paintings. Downstairs there is an actual sensory/lab where you can go and test your knowledge of art and how to look at art in different ways. I really enjoyed that so when I went upstairs, I was able to put things in different perspective. I will be back.

We especially loved the heart shaped red hot candies. They give out samples to taste. The red hots are perfect! Not burn your mouth hot! I bought several bags to take home to friends in California. We enjoyed exploring the museum room with all of the candy tins from years past. They have original candy making equipment and all of the history to offer a nostalgic experience. Be sure to try the marshmallow, chocolate carmel and pecan treat. The Modjeskas definitely came home with us to share with family and friends. I love these little town treasures!

I fully accept the fact that I might be wrong, but when I sat down just outside, I found more than I'd expected/wanted, and I paid for it. Okay... maybe it was an "oopsie-doodle", it was near my birthday, so all is forgiven. What about the chocolates? I can't deny that the selection is amazing, however, where it comes to quality, I have to admit I was not blown away. That isn't to say I felt they weren't great - they were! At the same time, there are other candy stores with similar products and concepts whose products are no worse. So, what does that leave us with? Schimpff's Confectionery is a very good, old-timey candy store. However, while I can't say their ranking as #1 best candy store in America in 2025 by USA Today is undeserved. However, I personally wouldn't go too far out of my way to get some of their chocolate candies.
