I know that commenting about a police department is NOT normal fair for Yelp, but I must say that…read morethe police here in Carmel, IN, ARE, in my opinion, the epitome of what most towns SHOULD have as their primary law enforcement organization. Unfortunately, I have "learned" more in recent years about how this particular department operates because of difficulties I have gotten MYSELF into as I have chosen to "help" people that I am really NOT qualified to help. In other worrds, I have gotten myself in over my head and my efforts to stay in control of my own life HAVE BEEN, at times, less than successful. But this is not about ME, other than to say that I have be en on "the other side" of some situations that really have gotten out of control. And I want to say that, should one ever find themselves faced with an "incident" in Carmel, Indiana, and should the police ever need to be involved, you can expect nothing but the most professional, diplomatic and, if they are ever given the chance, caring approach to law enforcement anyone anywhere has the right to expect. I would mention some individual officers by name if I could remember names. But they are, at least in my humbling experience, all like that! First rate! And that is all I have to say! I had heard of Fletcher Place food pantry, but I didn't realize how much this location offers. Check it out: 1. Thrift store. People can come and shop around the store to score clothes, shoes, and household items for free. All clothes have been donated from the community and are sorted in the basement by volunteers. Clothing in the store is nice and any stained clothing is given to Salvation Army. Anything the Salvation Army can't use is given to a company in Canada that turns them into rags. Nothing is wasted and the thrift store staff says that their goal is for people to leave feeling better about themselves. That's why the store is so clean, organized, and friendly. 2. Preschool. There are two preschool classrooms for kids. Not only do they receive education, but teachers will pick out clothing from the thrift store for the children if they are not adequately dressed. Children then get to keep the clothes. There is also a large library that allows students to choose books from (to keep) each week. 3. Kitchen. The top floor has a large multi-purpose room that is often used for meals. Churches come in every day and donate food and cooking ability. No one is ever turned down from receiving food. An average of 120 people are fed every meal. The facility is super nice and always clean- but only with the help of volunteers. The building is also very secure and they always have plenty for volunteers to do. They also have an e-mail newsletter they send out about volunteer opportunities. *There is a big Christmas event in which you take families "shopping" throughout the building to get all necessities and Christmas presents. Very cool. They're looking for help* Check this place out if you've never been. They're doing great things!

The place is beautiful! And if that wasn't enough, the Fishers Art Council organizes a monthly art exhibit to fill the walls of the first and second floor lobbies. My friend and I wandered around the lobbies checking out this month's art work: a local artist had gone to Mexico to cover the Day of the Dead festivals. The artist had photographs, paintings, and drawings of what she saw and experienced. The facility was easy to get around with a grand staircase as well as elevators. I also have used their help desk to find some information in prior visits. Very nice place to check out art and meet. Review #1714

My experience being called for jury duty was fine. The people who work here are very professional and efficient. The building itself is beautiful. Keep in mind that they don't allow you to park outside of the courthouse itself. There's a free parking garage a block away at which jurors are instructed to park. I would add an additional 10 minutes to your trip to find parking and walk to the courthouse. It's not far away, but there's a traffic light that takes a while. Also keep in mind: Before you enter the courthouse, you have to walk through a body scanner and empty your pockets. It's very easy but also kind of a pain, but I guess it's necessary in these strange and unpredictable times.
