I live in the south - have all my life - so when I call someone an ignorant reneck, you know it must be bad. There are TONS of spot on Lake Sinclair and Lake Oconee to put in your boat, fish, get bait or lodge - This is the WORST of all of them. We had a very hard time getting our camper backed in due to the trees. We actually damaged the side of our travel trailer. The park is maintained by the Rotary club but the trails are paved and easy to follow as well. There are also some benches scattered throughout the park, so you can relax and enjoy the scenery. I love that this park is so well-connected to nature, so many different species of trees and you can see the creek everywhere. Clean, accessible restrooms and places to sit and eat. What sets the park apart from others, however, is the stunning view of an old mill and the waterfall / creek that surround it. It's a little bit of an adventure to hike down to if you're doing it with younger kinds, but very doable and totally worth it. This would be a wonderful place to go to take some nature-esq photos, or just quietly exist and meditate for a while. During our visit on a weekday evening we were the only ones there and it was incredibly peaceful and quiet. Definitely worth the little drive out from the highways to get out to it.

We missed the street that takes you to the park twice, when we finally found the place it had ample parking available. There is a playground which was packed on the Sunday afternoon that we visited. The restrooms are located next to the playground and were relatively clean. The park offers plenty of shade and was well maintained. There was a small outdoor gym where I saw 1 person utilizing. I saw people playing catch in the open field and several people were walking their dogs. You can walk, run or bike ride on the trail. There is a very peaceful area that over looks the river where we took pictures. We were able to get in several miles and more than my required steps for the day. I look forward to coming back to Amerson River Park.

If you like to meditate or just need a place to clear your head, this is the place. The parking is free and you can enter the park from two separate places. Watch where you walk though because the ecosystem there is fragile in places. Be sure to read the information at the beginnings of the trails as well as at separate places throughout the park. I highly recommend this park for its quiet and because it is much less crowded than other Atlanta parks.
