That's really useful if there is no way to buy your ticket (sarcasm off). When the tram then arrived there was an arrow that said "tickets" and pointed to the front of the tram. So me and my wife entered and I asked the driver politely if I have to buy tickets from him (there was no sign that said where to actually buy them and it was the first time I saw that you have to buy tickets in the tram itself). The driver didn't even look at us just when I asked him again he turned and was rude af and wouldn't just give me an answer to my normal question. I then just left the tram and we went back to the hotel so this pathetic excuse of a city that can't even employ somewhat friendly service personnel won't get a single cent from me.

The Mainz train station is pretty standard for Europe. We had to catch a very early train to the…read moreairport for our flight home and overall I'd say we had an average experience here. The ticketing was fairly frustrating, but we'd grown accustomed to that as the electronic ticketing system in Germany, despite there being an English option, is not at all easy to navigate unless you are familiar with it. By this time in our trip we knew what to expect and had built in some time to navigate it and had a vague idea of what we needed so it went fairly well, but with the same little computer hiccups we'd come to expect from the system. The overall train station was, in my opinion, a bit grimy, and well loved, but it had some little cafes that were open early which was a win, and some fairly clean restrooms, though you had to go all the way to the basement for them. Overall, not a lot to report here. It could be modernized, cleaned up a bit, and improved, but it gets the job done.

Plus, it's a little on the swanky side, which is cool. We were on the penthouse level with great views, a wonderful room, and nice upgrades. I especially liked the electronic blinds mounted on the outside of the windows which helped block both the sunlight and the street noise. The breakfast, which was included, was by far one of the nicest we experienced in our two week Euro-trip. An abundance of quality and assortments for different tastes abound for all. The air conditioning is a great asset for the few month it is needed. The room is completely sound isolated from the street. Parking is not included, but parking in the public garage gets you use of the public transport system. Staff was friendly and helpful with tourist sights and directions. We wanted proximity to Hbf: got it - cross the street and you're there! We wanted a fairly low price: got it and booking far in advance helped. We wanted an included breakfast: got it and the buffet was exceptional. Even the gluten free traveller was satisfied and the coffee maker made good rich coffee which while strong, was not bitter or Starbucks burnt. The lobby and room are very old fashioned so if you're looking for an Ikea vibe, this isn't the place for you. Our room was large and the bathroom was nicely remodeled and spotless. Back to location: we walked to the church with Chagall windows and then to the cathedral and then back to the hotel. We're not young but we found walking to be easy, safe, and pleasant.
