After having tried price quotes from all dealerships to get my Kias timing belt replaced and couple other little amendments, I was a bit disappointed since it felt like a daylight robbery. Until I got to know about Halsted auto repair. The owner was a very kind and gave me a discount after having considered my student status. Not only that they also repaired a nail stuck in one of the tyre and my headlight in the total package at no extra cost. They also finished all repairs and delivered the car on time The entrance of this place can get a bit confusing for some in the start. You have to stand before the garage steel doors that have the glowing open sign and knock on the steel garage after which they'll open it. It might be diff in summers but that's how it was in winter time. It is not a big facility like a dealership but they do the job! Will def return. :) read more

I called before I arrive because I'm courteous and aware to know more than likely their busy but the guy said bring your car in we will check it out. I get there about an hour, the gentlemen is rude and I explained you told me to bring my car in why would you tell me if your of all a sudden busy now after I mention everything to you where I'm coming from n all. Drove all the way here on a flat tire. Had to go really slowly as I was scraping metal the whole way. Took about 15 min. I finally get here and it's closed, even though your signs and your google page say that you are open 7 days a week until 11PM. I've called and the number has been disconnected. It's currently 5:30. Great for routine maintenance. Bad for complex repairs. Excellent shop for oil changes, tire work, brake replacements. The people are nice but the English fluency is limited. They give honest pricing on regular maintenance items. Service is first come, first serve. So if you come when its empty, you can be in and out in less than 30 min for an oil change. Oil change cost me $85 on 2019 Toyota rav4. Brake jobs also seem competively priced. A lot of the negative reviews are from poor communication from staff. And from not understanding the repair costs beforehand. So don't come here if you need complex mechanical repairs. read more

This place is really good at what they do and I'm grateful for them, being a woman and not knowing much about cars, sometimes mechanics try to take advantage but the Boss, Mustafa and the others DO NOT and they tell you upfront with no if ands or buts about it. they forgot to put the oil cover back on and the oil splashed and blew up all over my car engine causing me hundreds of dollars in damage :( I will remove this rating if they finally answer their phone and apologize to me. This shop was originally recommended to me by a AAA tow driver when I was a new single mom with limited funds and really needed a place that was honest, affordable, and wouldn't take advantage of a single woman. I've since been going here for years and they have been all of those things and more. They have always been so good to me, telling me honestly when I didn't need to fix something, taking the time to explain things to me like a 5th grader because I don't understand most of the time :) They kept me driving my 2003 CRV well into 2018 and they now take care of my hybrid. Because of the high price (higher than the dealership), I decided to pick up my car. After paying for the inspection fee, they didn't give me the receipt and paperwork. In addition, they asked a guy to lead me and my kid to my car, literally 2 blocks away. Even the guy asked why they don't give me my car at the shop. Honest auto mechanics. No upsell on anything. Needed a new tire to replace a spare (last week the car had a flat and the spare was installed by Geico roadside assistance). Drove up, told them what we needed, got the quote for a new wheel was $120, got it installed, paid using credit card, drove off. Took a total of 30 minutes/maybe less than that. Super easy in and out. By the time we left, at least 3 other cars pulled up with their own issues so we came at a good pocket of time when there was no queue. So you never know if there is a queue or not. They don't take reservations-they're fair at first-come-first-serve. Probably the best auto repair experience I've ever had. And they open until 5am (most places close 5pm on a Sunday but this place doesn't)! read more

Very fast service. However I was quoted $65 for a synthetic oil change and asked them to LOOK at my tire bc the sensor kept going off. When I got my bill it was $100 because they charged me $75 for my oil change and then $20 to fix my tire without even asking me. Good service and good price had they only charged me once. You goofed but I'll allow it since the charge is easily reversed. Or is it? I called to tell them about the double charge and was quickly dismissed, saying I needed to bring in proof. So I go out of my way to bring a copy of my credit card statement and I'm told to come back when the supervisor was there, after 9pm. They wouldn't take my name, proof of their error, or move an inch to help someone who they basically stole money from. Asking someone to come back at that hour is a joke and undid any previous patience or goodwill. So they kept my extra $81.93 and I hope it's a small price to pay for never going back and having this happen with a much larger amount. read more

This place is awesome. I found this place about a year ago but have not had the need for a late hours and I mean late hours auto repair shop until today. One of my headlights went out and I got pulled over twice within 1 hour by Chicago police due to headlight not working. The police were nice I did not get a ticket both times I got pulled over. They just told me my light was out. Not wanting to take a chance and getting pulled over a3rd time I called this place and asked if they repair head lights. I was told yes so I stopped by at 1:00am yes 1:00am. There open from 9:00am to 5:00am 7 days a week. After checking my light it turned out to be the plug or connector that was bad. I was told that they did have the plug and that it would take about an hour to repair it. Well it only took them 30 minutes and was only charged $65 dollars. Which is really not bad considering they had to remove my tire in order to get to the plug on my Jeep Grand Cherokee and then only have a small opening to work with. I recommend this place if you need great service after hours. Very nice people definitely will go there again. read more

Amazing!! I had one day to explore downtown Chicago. As soon as I hit downtown traffic, my car started acting up. Had my passenger look up what it may be. Called Halsted and they answered on a Saturday early afternoon and were able to get me in and look at my car with no wait. Looked at it for a couple minutes, asked me some questions and ran a diagnostic and then listed off the top 2 most likely causes which matched exactly with what we were able to find online. Said it is most likely the spark plug but since they would have to get under a whole bunch of stuff, that it would be best and most cost effective to have the parts for both problems just in case. Didn't have the parts but said I could go to AutoZone down the street and get them. Brought the parts back and fixed the car within 3 hours (their original time estimate even though they got a lot more people in the shop by then). They knew I was leaving in the morning to go back to St. Louis and could have taken advantage but they didn't. Charged a very reasonable price and only used the one pack of ignition coils instead of the 6 pack saying only 1 was bad so that I could return the 6 pack to auto zone. They were so helpful and I'm so grateful they were my first call!! I would definitely return to them if I lived in Chicago! read more

Here is a great find if your vehicle needs to be serviced, Halsted Auto Repair Shop is a great find. I was referred to these guys by another customer of my usual repair shop that was closing time. I was directed here to fix my flat tire on my van. My regular shop could not help me out. You may miss it if their doors are closed but they are open until 5am in the morning. They are inside working hard.... Go thru the services doors at the south end. My flat was fixed..... The place is neat and clean as a whistle. Friendly, accommodating people work here. we had a problem with the brakes, and this place was the only one open and within short driving distance. they saw to us within 15 minutes and fixed the problem in another 15 minutes. pulled out chairs for us to sit by their heater while they worked. it is first-come-first-serve style, and asked us to pay in CASH (not sure why the yelp info says they accept credit cards)--but there is a gas station nearby with an ATM. they were so friendly that they insisted we use the newly fixed car to go to the gas station since it's so cold out. price was definitely cheaper than would have been at a chain auto repair shop like Midas read more

Quick, reasonably priced, and straightforward service - exactly what I want from an auto mechanic. Driving at around 8:30pm on a Thursday night, we noticed the pressure in one of our tires was dropping fairly steadily. We called them up and they said they could get us in right away. They patched up the tire for $20, which I think is very reasonable. If I had gone to our dealership, they probably have tried to push us into replacing one or two tires. Not only did they overcharge for the parts, but the repair turned out to be sub-standard as well. As it turned out, the parts that they used for repair were of very bad quality as I once again started having oil leakage issues 3 months after the repair. Either that or they were unable to diagnose the correct root cause. But the worst part was their customer service. The owner lacks basic etiquette and talks rudely if someone starts asking questions about the repair and quality of parts used. I needed to retrieve an updated bill for the repair to see if my insurance company could process a claim as I had extended accidental warranty on some parts, but the guy just refused to do that. The fact that I live 6 hours away from Chicago made matters worse as nobody answers the phone and even if they do, they are unwilling to help out. The bill that was finally provided after procrastinating for 2.5 months was a very manual unauthentic one which did not even have basic information like Vehicle Registration number, mileage in/out leave alone the diagnosis details and repair summary. Ultimately it was rejected not because the claim did not cover the parts, but because the required details were not mentioned on the bill. The insurance company was unable to get in touch with anyone from the shop even after several attempts and hence finally decided to reject the claim. I will never go to this shop again and caution others who plan to do so. read more

Loved this place, the guys that work there are very nice. Car broke down on a Saturday night and when most places are closed, this place was open and very reasonably priced. They got my car in right away, and fixed it in a timely fashion. They even offered us some of their pizza they had just ordered when we mentioned we hadn't eaten dinner! They explained what the problem was with the car, and what they were going to do and told me the price before they did anything. This places takes great care of Uber/Lyft drivers. Most the customers are taxi's so i was hesistant to come in but they are extremely professional, very fair priced, and open almost 24 hrs. Please briefly describe your complaint (Be specific - Who, What, When, Where, How): I took my car here to have my timing chain repaired, I was called in a week stating is was ready as I drove the car home the car was having the same problems and the check engine light came back on, so i went to another mechanic shop to have a diagnostic test done on the vehicle comes to find out the timing chain was not even fixed.So i called the police and took the car back to the shop .the owner was called in and told the situation and he said he will make sure the car is fixed to my liking even if he has to stand over the mechanic. A week later I was told my car was ready and that the timing chain was repaired, as I drove the car home the check engine light came on and the car barely moved when I pushed on the gas so I called and told the mechanic it's not fixed and the check engine light came on again, he stated to bring it back next week so I took it to midas and had a diagnostic test performed at $200 a hour .I was told the chain was put on wrong and it was causing codes P011 and P014 to pop up and that he believe that caused damage to my motor. I went back to the shop that performed the work told them my findings and the owner was called in the owner said the chain is on right midas is lieing and basically his shop is done working on my car.I stated that I'm under 90 day warranty but he did not care and I left the shop read more

I believe they have been under new management for the last year or so and I can tell you, they deliver every time. I have been in this place for 3 times ( for 3 different reasons) and they have taken care of my car in a professional and speedy manner. My 2002 GMC van would not start up for a return trip to Tennessee, so I called AAA for a jump, only to discover, with the help of a very courteous and helpful AAA driver, that my fuel filter was clogged. Happened to see this garage on the map and pulled in at around 8 PM, after hours for most shops. They fix mostly taxis so everyone works fast.
