Responding to business owner: I contacted Halo directly prior to deciding to ask my plumber to install it. Halo sent me their own brochure that said it removed heavy metals, I can show it to you. Our water was professionally tested and showed copper, lead, nickel, lithium, as well as other contaminants were not filtered.

    This is the main valve

We purchased a new Halo 5 which was is installed in our new construction home. Within a month or so it would not stop running water down the drain after a regeneration cycle. After many attempts to reset the filter, the company provided me a new main valve at no cost. The people at the customer service line and technicians are very friendly and helpful. However, the warranty only covers parts and not labor. My brand new unit was not functioning and I paid $208 to replace the valve. This unit was well over $3000 installed and I can't believe they are warranty for parts. Leave the customer in a very bad spot. I would not buy it again based on the warranty they are not really standing behind their product in my opinion. This is my own personal opinion of my filter in my house.

Easy to install, no maintenance required.

I've been plumbing for approximately 10 years now and awhile back, Glen the owner of Halo came to my company meeting to explain his products and how they function and I really liked the fact he was always reachable and that's where my relationship with Halo started. Most of my customers in Southern California are dealing with hard water and heavy chemicals levels from the city water treatment facilities and don't even realize it's doing tons of damage to all types of plumbing fixtures and most importantly your health. Halo literally has every single product that if installed correctly does exactly as it was designed to do. I even installed a unit in my own home and plan on adding the reverse osmosis system next. Everyone who has the system thanks me and the results after installing these systems speak for themselves.

One is the INFLOW fitting, the other is the OUTFLOW from a Halo 5.

Overpriced and does not perform. A plumber sold us this system when we needed to have some old copper pipes replaced. He said it would solve our hard water problems that were damaging our pipes. We live in Pasadena CA where the water is very hard (20.6 grains per gallon). After thousands of dollars for the unit and the install guess what our water hardness is. If you guessed exactly the same as without the system you would be right. It might be doing something, but it is definitely not solving the problem it was sold to remedy. Whatever it does cannot be detected by a Hach Labs kit. I know you are saying, "But look at all the 5 star reviews!" Just take note of how many of them are from plumbers. Based on how hard this was sold to us my suspicion is that they get a very healthy markup. This is a profit center. Halo does not publish a price for the system so that a quick internet search makes it hard to comparison shop. My advice for hard water treatment is to go with a proven ion-exchange system (which is what we finally did). Use the money you would have spent buying this system to buy an ion-exchange water softener, new dishwasher, new clothes washer, and then fill the tank of your F-150 because you will have saved that much money by choosing another system, and that system will actually work. Response to the response: Fair enough. This is just my experience. I can say that my espresso machine did not see a significant benefit from this system. Neither did my pipes. The attached photo shows the inflow and outflow fittings (before and after "conditioning") from the Halo 5 after we had it removed. It was installed by a licensed plumber and authorized Halo dealer. These were brand new about a year before the photo, installed as part if the replacement of the main 1" pipe supplying our house. I am not saying it did absolutely nothing, but I am questioning the value of the "conditioning" as it relates to the cost. What we experienced, and what I would expect is similar for others, is that it is a decision made in a time of stress, when you are having significant plumbing work done, and there is not a lot of information on the internet available to help you make an informed decision. A plumber is standing there telling you that you need this and you should decide right now to avoid having to have work done twice should you later decide to "condition" your water because it will be more cost effective if you just do it now. So, I offer this review as a chance for that customer to count to ten before deciding.

Ask the Community - Halo Water Systems

How do I get replacement filters for my Halo 5 stage RO system?

Hi Jeremy, depending on what state you live in, you can purchase filters from a local plumbing supply distributor. We are stock in Ferguson supply throughout the country, however, there are other suppliers depending on your location. I suggest you… Read more

Where can I purchase the Halo5 system? Do you have any authorized installers/dealers in Riverside County?

I’m not happy with mine. It does a good job filtering the water but as a water a softener forget it. I would gladly sell you mine for a discount.

Had my halo 5 and brand new hater heater installed by a well known company about 1 month ago. Still getting a lot of water spots and stains on my fixtures and dishes. What's test kit is available for me to test my water to make sure it is working?

Hi Era, please call 800-591-0538 and state that you are a new HALO owner that has an issue. Every situation is different and we will have a couple of questions for you to ensure everything is working properly.

Should we be able to detect water going through the pipes to our Halo system? It doesn't look like any water is flowing through the clear pipes.

You should call HALO Water Systems at 800-591-0538. They will ask you for a photograph, as the systems themselves do not come with any clear tubes. You may have another system confused with a HALO system.

What is estimated cost of installing a Halo 5 system?

Their customer service is top-notch and aligns well with the values expected from a Costco-affiliated business. That said, I do have some concerns about the overall process. On Saturday (3/14), I discovered a major leak coming from my EcoWater ECR3700 system. Water was streaming heavily, and initially, I had no way to shut it off. In a panic, I contacted the original installer, Jose, who reminded me about the bypass valve. I was able to engage it, which stopped the main flow from the cracked valve assembly; however, the unit continued to leak. The bypass valve, which is supposed to fully stop water flow, did not perform as expected. Since the leak was at least somewhat controlled, I waited until Monday (3/16) to contact the office. They scheduled an emergency appointment to assess the situation. The emergency visit cost $250, compared to $150 for a standard appointment. Given that I had an active leak through no fault of my own, I felt I had no choice but to proceed with the higher-cost option. The technician confirmed a crack in the valve body but was unable to resolve the leak due to high water pressure. He recommended replacing the pressure regulator. Marissa from the office was very helpful, but the earliest available appointment to replace the water softener was not until Thursday (3/26). I was also informed that the system could not be replaced until the water pressure issue was addressed. This was confusing, as my water pressure has remained the same since the original installation. According to the specification sheet for the ECR/ERR3700 system, it is rated for up to 125 PSI, while my home measured around 100 PSI--high, but still within the system's stated limits. It was unclear why replacement could not proceed under those conditions. After some back-and-forth, I was able to work out a solution with the technician, Charlie, who ultimately replaced both the water softener and the pressure regulator. Overall, I appreciate the efforts of everyone I interacted with at EcoWater. While I disagree with the $250 emergency visit--especially since it did not resolve the leak--I do appreciate that they did not charge additional labor for the final replacement, as the unit was still under warranty. I am hopeful that with the water pressure now reduced to 68 PSI, the system will perform reliably moving forward. Additional Thoughts: If your system is under warranty, the process should be relatively straightforward. However, I do question the potential costs for customers whose systems are no longer covered. The valve body--arguably the most failure-prone component--is made of plastic and carries only a 10-year warranty. While the system advertises a "lifetime warranty," this can be somewhat misleading since the valve body is the part most likely to fail. Most water softeners typically last around 10-15 years, meaning the warranty is most beneficial in cases like mine, where a defect occurs relatively early (within 7 years of installation). The current price for an ECR/ERR3700 system through Costco is approximately $6,000-$7,000, which is on the higher end compared to other options. I have yet to determine whether the added cost delivers proportional value. Side Note: EcoWater also offers under-sink filtration systems. However, I find it difficult to justify their price point, as they use proprietary filters that must be purchased through them. These replacements appear to be significantly marked up. There are many alternative filtration systems available online that offer comparable performance with more affordable, widely available replacement filters.
