On my recent trip to Houston!…read more When I was searching for dowtown bars and dancing, Behind Closed Doors popped up. It looked dark, clubbish, and fun (exactly what I was looking for) and I couldn't wait to come here. After a 25 minute Uber ride we were downtown and walking to our destination. At first we could not find it but thankfully a nice gentlemen showed us where it was. Upon walking in, darkness with these bright lights paved our way. We sat down at the bar, but realized dancing did not start until 10pm. The bartender came over and said to us "we have a speakasy behind door #3" we were like WHAT! Let's go. So, we walked down the dark hallway and pushed open door #3 (hence the name) to find this super cool speakeasy bar. Dim lights, really modern decor, comfy suede chairs and best of all, some really great cocktails. If you are ever in Downtown Houston, I highly recommend you coming here. I promise you will have the best time. We did not stay for dancing.

Before I got here, I decided to read through quite a number of reviews and most yelpers like the place, but there are complaints concerning the DJ, music and venue. The interior is basically one big dance floor surrounded by tables, chairs, and three bars. Inside it is dark, cold and loud. There is a DJ booth in the corner, but sometimes the DJ will be standing on the floor with the iPad directing traffic. There is an outside area which has a stage and can also double as a dance floor. There's also a bar, photo booth, gaming machines, and a stage. However, very little of it is covered, so it's best to come after dark. It's also likely you'll be paying a cover charge to get in depending on the day. Tuesday evenings they have line dance lessons and Sunday nights they have Latin dance. 10 informative photos and videos included.

When I first came to College Station, everyone talked about how great Halo was. The great music and environment. As a long time supporter of LGTB rights, I admired the idea of having its existence in what is known to be one of the most conservative towns in the US. With this said, I supported Halo not only as a patron but as an ally of the community it served. Why the one star? Because throughout my time here, Halo has shown to be one of the most racist businesses in the Bryan/College Station area. My first experience with this was one night when a group of us went and two of our friends had Visa-stamped Mexican passports. They refused to take that as a form of a valid id and called the cops. When we insisted on leaving, they said we had to wait for the cops to get back the passports. I just now heard of a similar incident when some friends with Puerto Rican id's (notice Puerto Ricans are US citizens) were also given trouble for not having valid US ids and were only let in after someone pointed out that those were valid US ids. So maybe their claim that they only accept valid US ids can be acceptable. However, when I spoke to a professor from Switzerland about this, he told me that he had gone in there with his Swiss passport and had not been given any trouble. Thus, I feel its my responsibility to warn foreign students and visitors about this place. It is a shame that such a positive idea for a business can turn into an ignorant place to beware of. read more

The only club in B/CS I will pay a cover for to get in (7 bucks the night I went.) The entire place was clean, the drag show was a blast, and I did not feel out of place as a self-identified straight girl. Plus, you can smoke there! The fruity mixed drinks were delicious, and I loved the music they played. It is the token "gay" bar in the B/CS area, but its more like the only purely fun pop music club in the area. No matter what you wear or what crowd you roll with, I guarantee you'll feel at home here as long as you can appreciate the music. I can see why this place has an established fan base of both GLBT and straight groups. read more

I have been to this club many times! I graduated from TAMU in 2010 but come back often to attend games and see friends etc. Halo, is by far the best nightclub in the area, it always has been! I was there last weekend and was blown away. It was completely renovated and looked totally different! It would definitely give clubs in Houston, Austin or Dallas a run for the money! I don't know all of the newer staff nor do I personally know the owner but I have met him a few times and he was very cordial to me. read more
