We saw two different doctors across two visits (Monday and Wednesday of the same week). Both felt something abnormal in his abdomen, and both were fixated on the idea that he had eaten something that was stuck -- despite the fact that X-rays showed no such obstruction. No other explanations were considered. After performing full bloodwork and diagnostics on Monday, they repeated the exact same tests again on Wednesday. This not only added significantly to our bill, but in hindsight, feels like a clear indication that the initial work-up wasn't thorough enough. Especially troubling is that Wagz's bloodwork showed elevated calcium and kidney levels -- markers that should have raised concern. Less than 24 hours after our second appointment, we brought Wagz to the emergency room. The ER doctor identified swollen lymph nodes within minutes, suspected cancer, and referred us to oncology. He was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma and required three days of emergency hospitalization. Duxbury now claims his lymph nodes weren't swollen on Monday or Wednesday -- something we find extremely hard to believe, given how quickly they were detected by another clinician less than 24 hours later. At the very least, the combination of red flags -- the exam findings, abnormal labs, and how sick he looked -- should have led to more urgency and better guidance. After his diagnosis, we reached out to Duxbury hoping they might show some compassion -- especially given the duplicated tests, the financial toll of delayed care, and the painful experience of watching our young dog get sicker while we chased the wrong answers. Instead, they stood by their process and offered a $250 credit for future services -- a gesture that felt not only inadequate, but tone-deaf. We're not trying to assign blame. We understand medicine is complex, and diagnoses can be difficult. But the lack of accountability -- and more importantly, the absence of real empathy -- was deeply disappointing. Our family is now navigating a heartbreaking diagnosis we can't change, but what could have been different was the way we got here -- and the three-day ER stay that might have been avoided if things had been handled differently. We're sharing this because other families deserve to know what we went through. Duxbury's reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and we're not here to discredit that -- but if we had read a story like ours, we might have made different decisions. I told my vet, the Taunton Animal Hospital, that I have been a client or rather my dog has been a client for over 10 years and could they please squeeze her in just to look at it because I knew it was infected. It had an odor to it. Again I was told I had to go someplace else. My daughter told me to go to her that but I never in a million years thought I would get an appointment. I did call the Bristol Animal Hospital and they told me they could fit her in that afternoon even though she wasn't a patient there. When I got there I was astonished on how neat and unbelievably clean the practice is. They were so friendly and nice!! They took us not even 3 minutes after my scheduled appointment. My dog is very nervous around new people but when the vet tech and the vet walked in the room, she seemed to be ok bc of their gentle manner. Dr Wells was the veterinarian and she was so unbelievably caring and kind looking at my dog's wound. We did have to muzzle her because she said it was definitely infected and they had to scrape it and clean it so they were afraid she may not react too kindly. She never cried and they were so gentle. I asked right then and there if they were accepting new patients and when they told me they were I immediately called my vet and asked them to transfer her files over to the Bristol Animal Hospital to Dr Wells. A lot of Veterinary visits tend to be emergencies so when you turned away from a vet that you've been going to for a very long time even though you called first thing in the morning and they were open for 9 hours that day wow in my opinion that is unacceptable. I have not used them for a few years. The pandemic was brutal. Loss of family members, loss of job, and loss of my own mental health. During that time, my cat was happy and healthy. My cat is now sick and they refuse to see me because I'm not longer considered a client. I am easy, very easy. I am understanding. I was not looking for an emergency visit or to be squeezed in ahead of the line. To be told that after this many years using them, they won't see my cat is more the infuriating.
