Grandma Tteokbokki
Yesenia G.

Sooooooo good! satisfied my craving. The Rice cake was genuinely fresh and chewy so it was enjoyable to eat, Level 2 wasn't too spicy really nice flavor! We added noodles to our dish so it was more than enough to share for 2 people. The owners were really nice and helped us out with ordering, we were the first ones there and had the restaurant to ourselves dispute it being around 2pm. Would come again!

First originally tried this spot in LA, so when thr Feddy location opened, had to stop by. This location is at a strip mall that's not on 99 like most other restaurants are. But at least, there's a decent amount of parking. The store itself is on the smaller side. I think theres maybe about 12 tables or so. Ordered the Grandma Ddukboki with the long dduk aka garae dduk, you can cut and eat as you go. Or you can eat it on a stick. Your choice. But forgot to take a photo of the main dish oops I like spice but others not so much so we got a level two. I dont think it was spicy but others still did. You can also add additional items from the topping bar like extra noodles, veggies and etc which are located to the left of the cash register. We also ordered some side items like the fish cake soup, squid tempura, shrimp tempura, and the deep fried dumplings. The fried foods were alright, a bit more breading than what I'm used to. And the deep fried dumplings only had the clear glass noodles inside. But service was good and the staff was friendly and assist you if you need clarification.

Grandma Tteokbokki with add ons - melted cheese and ramen

Halgatteok was the perfect quick and casual weekday lunch spot before running errands in Federal Way. My daughter and I both love tteokboki so I was looking forward to trying Halgatteok! I got the grandma tteokboki with ramen and melted cheese added, level 1 spicy. It was the perfect amount of food for my daughter and I to share and we both enjoyed it! However, it was almost too spicy even though we got level 1! I guess low spice tolerance over here, haha. The sauce had good flavor though and the giant rice cakes were fun to eat. Would recommend! Overall, I thought Halgatteok was good! but not something I'd eat often - major carb overload! Need to add some veggies next time to balance it out ;) and maybe I'd try another sauce next time too.

Tried the halgatteok and it was sooo good. The portion is actually huge, way more filling than I expected. Definitely something that's easily shareable. It's still a little pricey even without all the extra add-ons, so I definitely recommend sharing with other people to make it more worth it. Service was still okay -- nothing over the top but solid. Overall really good and I'd get it again

I haven't had a lot of tteokbokki before so I don't have a reference but the few times that my husband and I have had it, we liked it but didn't love it. I went here with a friend and we got a bunch of dishes! We got two tteokbokki dishes: grandma and rose. We added ramen and cheese toppings to both. We also got gimbap, rice balls, and fried seaweed. The rice balls are DIY but they give you gloves so that your hands are not sticky and your food stays clean! I loved the rose tteokboki and I'd order that again! Service is pretty quick and the employees are nice and attentive. It's a casual dining spot but it's an also a cool place for a relaxed date night or just a casual hang out spot with friends! Will I come back? Of course!!!!

Update! I had this restaurant again and it was still pretty good! The Tteobokki was cooked very well and the soup was delicious. The portioning might've been more than last time or it's just that this pan was wider than the last. The service was iffy. I added squid in my dish from the self serve bar, however, none of them were in the Tteobokki! I think something happened in the back and to compensate for it, they added ramen and cheese. Because of that, I didn't request them to fix my dish. However, I think it's important for the establishment to make the order correctly. Otherwise, the food didn't take long to make and the employees were nice. The ambiance was cool. Chill vibes for delicious food!

was so excited to try this tteokbokki spot in federal way after seeing this on TikTok! Halgatteok is located in a small plaza across from Hmart offering comfort Korean street food. We came on a weekday and there were lots of open seating available and service was quick . The menu offered variety of tteokbokki flavors and you can customize the thickness of the noodles too, which I thought was very unique! There was an open bar selection if you wanted to make your own dish, kind of like malatang style. We ordered the rose & jjang tteokbokki and added instant noodles paired with a side of shrimp tempura. The rose sauce was so creamy and savory and really reminded me of a similar dish I got when I visited Seoul. The jjang was really good as well but personally I preferred the rose sauce more. The shrimp tempura was perfectly crispy and tasty. Very affordable for the huge portions we received, we had lots of leftovers! I would definitely recommend and bring my friends and family here for a casual lunch or dinner :)

I'm picky about spicy rice cakes because so many places don't do it well but Halgatteok does it right! Interior is kind of small but there's some seating and plenty of parking outside (it's in a giant strip mall lot). Service was good and servers were friendly. The portions are enough for one person with a large appetite or two normal portions. I recommend customizing yours so you can have other ingredients that you like! The side dishes that they offer pair really well with spicy rice cakes so I also recommend getting one or a few. The rosé sauce was delicious and I heard from a friend that the mala flavor was excellent. The rice cakes were cooked to perfection. Chewy and not soggy at all. I'll be coming back soon!~

ate here with Dulcutie and got the jiajiang sauced jumbo-sized tteokboki. I love that there are different sauces to choose from -- something that I have not seen available before from other restaurants. Costs extra for toppings, which I wished was available already in the order as it is a bit much. Very quiet restaurant with nicely spaces tables, but I wish that there was some decoration around to not make the restaurant seem plain. Appreciate the cashier for breaking down the popular orders among customers and the differences to expect with each tteokboki sauce. really great initiative on their end, especially for first time customers like myself. Also think that it is coolghat there are various sizes in tteokboki because I never seen that elsewhere either. Tteokboki is indeed soft -- very chewy!

Food quality: 5/5! So delicious and fresh. Service: quick, easy, and good. Atmosphere: casual and cute. Overall experience: very good. Straight forward and good. Notes: had one of the best shrimp tempura's ever!!

Halgatteok is a new Korean restaurant in Federal Way that caters a select few options of Tteokbokki (떡볶이), which is a popular Korean street food made with rice cakes, fish cakes, soup stock, and Gochujang (고추장, a Korean chili paste). The biggest appeal to this particular restaurant is their house made rice cake that is humongous compared to the traditional ones. The menu is currently quite small, but that makes decisions much easier if you are indecisive. I ordered the Jjajang Tteokbokki (짜장 떡볶이, Black Bean Sauce Tteokbokki), which includes Jjajang sauce rice cakes, a hard boiled egg, and fish cakes with the Garae-Tteok (가래떡), a cylinder-shaped rice cake that is longer and thicker. I added a side order of Shrimp Tempura (4 pieces). This was a filling meal since it is mainly carbohydrates. The Tteokbokki was a great chewy texture! I did take my leftovers to go, which I wish I didn't since the Tteokbokki was much chewier when it's freshly made. The service was good. The employees were nice, but I do wish they helped customers provide a bit of guidance upon ordering since there were a few steps to get a finalized order in. It is pretty much self-explanatory, but it would have made the process faster.

Yay! I did it!
Christy K.

I like the DIY option of having a tteokbokki topping bar and add what you want to make it your personal experience. The sauce was OK medium spice wasn't bad i definitely could've amped up a bit. Service was attentive. Only thing that threw me off was the rice balls we have to make ourselves vs what was shown in the pictures on the menu. Had I known it was a messy eat may have reconsidered. I think I prefer a different ambiance though as it felt more like a cafeteria vs a Cafe or a bar

Super flavorful and large portion. I would recommend. Great for larger parties to share

It was super cold outside so this soup was a perfect balance to it! The dumplings are well seasoned and the kimchi tho, do I need to say anything else? Tastes homemade and authentic! We had ordered a seafood pancake, saw ours be given to another table that ordered later than us. We reminded the waitress once more and saw that one be given to another table as well. We reminded them one last time just to be told "it's coming." At that point, we have been dining in for 45 minutes, finished our soups and just ended up wanting to cancel that order (even though we were looking forward to it). We went up to the cash register and told the waitress to cancel the pajeon but she didn't believe us that it never came and that she had to check our table for herself. Not once were we ever checked up on, just overlooked and ignored... I want to say I like Yi's but I am apprehensive about coming back.

Pricey but delicious !!!…read more The location and the vibe around is just perfect for gathering with your group of friends and family . Not to mentioned, our server was amazing and patient with us since it was my first time. She told me full details of the menu to which is usually ordered or popular at the moment, since I couldn't decide myself. I loved everything she recommended and can't wait to go back again. I specially loved the kalbi and pork tofu combo . We did get the stone bibimpap as well which was amazing !! And the seafood pancake . I think we ended up getting so much food that we ended up just sharing whole just enjoying each others company. My order: ( in the photo) Pork Tofu Soup 돼지고기 순두부 with kalbi combo! Both times I've been here, it's always been very busy, but I've never had to wait for a table because they have a ton of seating. Even though it's pretty packed here, it's easy to have a conversation. The staff here are also pretty friendly and the food comes out quickly (though I wish the banchan would come out sooner). The food here is probably some of the best Korean food I've had in the greater Seattle area. I can think of maybe one other place that I would put on the same level as here. While I would argue that this is on the pricier end, I think the food quality really makes up for it. The kimchi made in-house is fantastic, and I've actually purchased some outside of the meal to take home to snack on later. I like the kimchi pancake and my go-to bibimbap is fresh and filling. Overall, Seoul Tofu House is a great spot, I wish they had another location somewhere up north. But for now, whenever I'm in the area this is my spot.

Super crispy and crunchy but not a ton of meat a more breading. It felt small for a half a chicken or even a whole chicken. Not sure what size chicken they use for "whole" chicken. Yangnyum was good but the chicken was not coated too well. Top ones barely had any sauce and bottom ones were drenched in sauce. I wish they would toss it in sauce a little more evenly. I do also wish they would include the 1 side radish with each order as for Korean fried chicken place, radishes come with chicken as a standard item. Like ketchup for fries. The online ordering was easy and effortless and was done a few minutes earlier than promised which was great. The employee was nice and I was able to pick up my order right away. Overall, I do like this place and will return but wish they could improve on some stuff like making sure sauce is evenly coated on all sauce based chicken.

Back then, customers were treated with care, attention to detail mattered, and the restaurant was clean and well-kept. My visit in 2025 was a great experience. Unfortunately, as of February 2026, that standard is no longer being met. This restaurant is small, so cleanliness should be manageable, yet it did not smell good and did not look clean. The bright lighting that once enhanced the experience now did the opposite, making the dirt on the baseboards, walls, and chairs very noticeable. Standing there waiting for service, I couldn't help but think: if the front looks like this, what does the kitchen look like? I'm writing this review as an update on how Chicko's is doing since the grand opening. If you look at my previous review, you'll see how excited and satisfied I was during my first visit. There are new hours, which isn't an issue. However, the kitchen closes at 9:30 PM. I arrived before 9:30, but there were no employees at the front. I stood there for several minutes with extremely loud music playing and couldn't even call out for help. After waiting, I started taking photos for this review. A few minutes later, at 9:32, an employee came out and told me I could not order because the kitchen had closed at 9:30. This same employee has been here recently and appears to be newer. She is often wearing headphones or looking at her phone. While that's common these days, it doesn't come across as professional or attentive to customers. For context, I'm a regular customer. I eat here and also pick up orders for DoorDash as a side hustle. I come in multiple times a week and have done so consistently since the shop opened. Despite that, I'm treated like a stranger--interactions feel robotic and not genuine. That's disappointing, especially since the business once felt like the owners truly cared. It's also unfortunate that the young man who worked here around October is no longer employed. He treated customers very well, whether they were ordering food or picking up deliveries, and he was consistently kind and professional. If you're only coming for the food, it's still good, and this may still be your spot. But if you're looking to become a regular, expect consistency, and feel confident the restaurant is clean every time, I can't confidently recommend it anymore. At least, it's no longer the spot for me. Because of this, I'll be looking for a new chicken restaurant in Federal Way. I don't support family-owned businesses that lose their focus on cleanliness, service, and care while only chasing profit.

We were also misled in the fact that we thought we could get fried chicken here only to find out they don't have it on their menu anymore. This was during a Friday evening around 6pm, and my friend and I got seated immediately since the restaurant was empty. You've got a lot of tables inside that are relatively clean and seat mostly groups of 4 or so. News in Korean is playing on a TV nearby, and the interior just feels calming with the uniform wooden floors and tables. Menu is limited here though most of it is for their traditional hangover soups. My friend and I wanted some meat dishes so we got both their spicy pork and beef bulgogi on sizzling grills. Both meats came sizzling when brought to our table, though they weren't piping hot from what I remember. Spicy pork was hard to chew at times, and my friend had to spit out one piece because it was too hard. It wasn't too spicy though I think it would have benefited from more spice since the flavor wasn't too strong. The beef bulgogi was both of our favorites, though the color wasn't too appealing and I felt there was a ton of liquid, as if the beef was plated before all the water evaporated from the pan. Service was top-notch for both of us, though. Staff were attentive in answering our questions, grabbing our utensils and getting us water when we asked. I felt this was a one-off visit because we didn't get the dishes this place is more well-known for, so I'll come back again to have their hangover soups instead.
