It came with ramen noodles, sausage, big chewy rice cakes, and fish cake, and the sauce was really good. The portions are huge, so definitely plan on sharing. The staff was really nice too. The only thing I probably wouldn't get again is the strawberry ade. It was okay, but not my favorite. Overall, I'd come back. Visited Friday, April 3rd around 6:15 pm. Walking in the restaurant you will find it's small with a few employees. Maybe I came on a slow day, but even so it took 20 minutes to get my order. I got the Rose with no sausage or bacon, added cheese and ramen, not spicy. It was extremely cheesy, The egg was over boiled and was grey inside so I didn't eat that. My order was $20 something. The service was good, however I got sick after leaving. I couldn't keep anything down and was constantly running to my bathroom. I'm afraid I've lost any desire to eat this again. I'm not even sure what went wrong but it was definitely from the food, being it was the only meal I've had for the day. Edited: It's 4 am the next morning (Sat) as I'm leaving this review, and I'm still sick and can't keep anything down! Great casual spot for lunch or dinner! We went with the grandma version to try the original sauce. The flavor was there and good amount of spice. The portion was perfect for two people. The big rice cakes had a great texture -- soft and chewy. My only complaint is that I wish there was more sauce! It looks like a lot at first, but once you start eating it with all the sides, we ran out of sauce while still having rice cakes and other sides left. First originally tried this spot in LA, so when thr Feddy location opened, had to stop by. This location is at a strip mall that's not on 99 like most other restaurants are. But at least, there's a decent amount of parking. The store itself is on the smaller side. I think theres maybe about 12 tables or so. Ordered the Grandma Ddukboki with the long dduk aka garae dduk, you can cut and eat as you go. Or you can eat it on a stick. Your choice. But forgot to take a photo of the main dish oops I like spice but others not so much so we got a level two. I dont think it was spicy but others still did. You can also add additional items from the topping bar like extra noodles, veggies and etc which are located to the left of the cash register. We also ordered some side items like the fish cake soup, squid tempura, shrimp tempura, and the deep fried dumplings. The fried foods were alright, a bit more breading than what I'm used to. Halgatteok was the perfect quick and casual weekday lunch spot before running errands in Federal Way. My daughter and I both love tteokboki so I was looking forward to trying Halgatteok! I got the grandma tteokboki with ramen and melted cheese added, level 1 spicy. It was the perfect amount of food for my daughter and I to share and we both enjoyed it! I haven't had a lot of tteokbokki before so I don't have a reference but the few times that my husband and I have had it, we liked it but didn't love it. I went here with a friend and we got a bunch of dishes! We got two tteokbokki dishes: grandma and rose. We added ramen and cheese toppings to both. We also got gimbap, rice balls, and fried seaweed. The rice balls are DIY but they give you gloves so that your hands are not sticky and your food stays clean! I loved the rose tteokboki and I'd order that again! Service is pretty quick and the employees are nice and attentive. It's a casual dining spot but it's an also a cool place for a relaxed date night or just a casual hang out spot with friends! Update! I had this restaurant again and it was still pretty good! The Tteobokki was cooked very well and the soup was delicious. The portioning might've been more than last time or it's just that this pan was wider than the last. The service was iffy. I added squid in my dish from the self serve bar, however, none of them were in the Tteobokki! I think something happened in the back and to compensate for it, they added ramen and cheese. Because of that, I didn't request them to fix my dish. However, I think it's important for the establishment to make the order correctly. was so excited to try this tteokbokki spot in federal way after seeing this on TikTok! Halgatteok is located in a small plaza across from Hmart offering comfort Korean street food. We came on a weekday and there were lots of open seating available and service was quick . The menu offered variety of tteokbokki flavors and you can customize the thickness of the noodles too, which I thought was very unique! There was an open bar selection if you wanted to make your own dish, kind of like malatang style. We ordered the rose & jjang tteokbokki and added instant noodles paired with a side of shrimp tempura. The rose sauce was so creamy and savory and really reminded me of a similar dish I got when I visited Seoul. The jjang was really good as well but personally I preferred the rose sauce more. Interior is kind of small but there's some seating and plenty of parking outside (it's in a giant strip mall lot). Service was good and servers were friendly. Halgatteok is a new Korean restaurant in Federal Way that caters a select few options of Tteokbokki (떡볶이), which is a popular Korean street food made with rice cakes, fish cakes, soup stock, and Gochujang (고추장, a Korean chili paste). The ordering system confused me when I arrived, but you are supposed to put any additional toppings from the topping bar into the bowl and bring it to the cashier, where they will weigh it. The dish already comes with tteokbokki, fish cake, and egg, so anything you put into your bowl is extra! We got the gimbap and rose tteokbokki with the large tteok. I thought the rose sauce was delicious and the tteok was perfectly chewy. The tteok got a little tiring after a while, especially to chew, but that's personal preference. I also enjoyed the gimbap (can't really mess that up). The wasabi soy sauce was nice and had a kick but I prefer dipping the gimbap in the tteokbokki. Overall a very filling meal. Halgatteok is nestled in a pretty nondescript plaza. On a Sunday afternoon, there were four other tables so we didn't have to wait at all. We walked in and ordered fairly easily. It's not the cleanest, I had to ask for a cloth to wipe the table (they came to clean). You choose your toppings first and you pay by weight. When paying, you can choose which sauce and which rice cakes you'd like. We tried a bit of everything with our group of four. We wanted to try out this spot as I have been following their Instragram page for the longest time and even got a coupon from them. We arrived and the restaurant was half full of customers sitting and another line of customers that were paying or ordering, which was confusing. Additionally, it was a bit confusing that you can pick your toppings as you wait in line cause if you're a solo diner or have friends then it's weird to do that suddenly at the front of the line. I feel they should have a sign or something that lets you know you can get the toppings separately as I thought we would let them know and they will get but it is self-serve. The inside has a cute, cozy vibe. They have lots of posters on one side while the other wall has a mural. The menu is pretty big and the text is large enough to read from far away. They have several tables and chairs to accommodate different size parties but definitely more towards 2 or 4 seaters. There isn't much service as you get your plates, utensils and napkins after ordering and then they bring you your order then you never see them again. The lady at the front had some trouble as she took like almost ten minutes trying to figure out some orders? But our food arrived not too long after we placed it and it was pretty delicious. Came to check out HalgaTteok after hearing it just opened in Seattle. Hands down, the best tteokbokki I've had in the city so far--spicy, flavorful, and well-balanced. That said, some items were disappointing. The seaweed roll (kim-mari) was really underwhelming--tiny, with most of the batter falling off, making it feel like the seaweed and batter were completely separate. The squid tempura tasted okay, but it wasn't the long, generous piece shown in their promo photos, which felt misleading. My biggest issue was with the system. Customers line up to order, but instead of paying right away, you're expected to sit down, eat, and then get back in line again to pay. This created a bottleneck and confusion, as people trying to order and people trying to pay were tangled in the same line. Paying at the time of ordering would've made the whole experience smoother and more efficient. First day open and we waited in line, went by quickly and while you are in line can see good coming out plus ask others for their recommendations. I received the Grandma Garae-tteok instead, but I'm not angry, just a bit disappointed since Rose is my fave everywhere I go. It was delicious, but a bit too spicy for me. I think they should not let people seat down without food ordered. Second problem they have is ordering. They have the extra sides at the front. Ambiance - not the best location. It's in an old stripmall, it looks like one of the few shops open here, but plenty of parking which is nice. Pretty small with maybe 12 seats. Not a vibey spot at all, but then again it's not supposed to be. Service - I went during their grand opening. This was only their 4th day open so they're still figuring things out. When you walk in, there's line at the register to order, but nobody tells you that to the left of the register are a bunch of add-ons like meats, veggies, noodles etc. that you can add to your tteokbokki. Only reason I knew was because I asked about it. You pay by the weight. $14/lbs. Then when you place your order, you don't pay, which doesn't make sense, cause when you finish eating you have to stand back in the same line of everyone ordering, just to pay your bill. Also seemed like they were struggling with their POS system. Tables aren't FCFS. Saw a couple come in. One grabbed a seat while the other stood in line. They were told to move for someone who already ordered, so the couple just left. They have extra large tteokbokki as an option but I had to ask for scissors to cut it. Just a bunch of logistics issues. These aren't complaints, because again, they just opened. Just observations they need to work on. Food - This is why you're here at the end of the day, and I can say its fire. Before this you could only find mediocre tteokbokki at SOME Korean restaurants. With tteokbokki being the focus here, the quality is alot higher. We tried the rose version which was very flavorful and creamy, I believe there were bacon bits cooked in! The XL rice cakes were perfect chewy texture. (side note: adding ramen noodles is $2.50 flat rate, not weighed. Also sometimes they mixed it right in but for us it was served plain on the side.) Also had the mayak gimbap which was fresh and good. The seaweed wrapping was bursting apart. Not much flavor in the gimbap itself. We added 4 half size wide noodles, 2 mini sausage, ramen, one thick giant rice cake, bit of green onion and 4 fish cake slices for a total of $11.70 extra.
