Having operated under a few different names over the years, the current Co Op Taxi service draws on a wide network of drivers who are usually within 5 /10 minutes of a pick up destination. Outside of regulated fare costs there are no additional fees for this service -although you may feel obliged to tack on a Thank You for the polite (even charming) manner of the drivers ferrying you about town. The phone-in booking system is a breeze, with hold times greatly reduced now that the service is fully up and running. Within two minutes callers should be able to book their car -frequent users can cut that back even more by registering their phone number with the company. Currently, the only drawback is the missing / broken website which will allow online bookings once all is repaired.

My address can be tricky to find using google and often I found that the instructions I give on the phone aren't passed on to the driver which in the past resulted in what I absolutely despise doing: talking to people in the morning and directing them to my house. The idea of Lynx is great: download the app, input your address, arrange a time, pay by card (or cash) and track where your driver is on the app. You can input your address and support that by a placing a dot on a map. Perfect and fool-proof, right? Well... About 5mins before the arranged pick up time, my driver is 200meters away. Just up the road. Great, me thinks, I get ready and go downstairs. It's winter and it's raining but he's around the corner so all good. So there I am, 5mins, 10mins and then...the phone call. Ah crap! I hardly understand the person on the phone but I can guess what he's saying. He's not where he's supposed to be. I try to direct him to the address, he doesn't know the area, I wait another 10mins. I'm very close to just hail a cab at this stage. I'm cold, I'm running late for my flight and I had to talk, several times at this stage to someone who I can hardly understand. Eventually, the driver finds me and I get dropped to the airport in an old and smelly car. This was the worst service I ever received by any taxi company. I'm not sure whether the driver couldn't access the map with the correct address as I couldn't ask him. I don't know anyone else who's also used the app so I don't know whether this was an isolated incident. I have deleted it however as I really don't wanna find out.

The cars are always nice and new, the drivers are professional and know where they're going, and they do special requests (ask for a van, get a van). There's a €2 fee for pre-booking, but it's good peace of mind. So is the fact that all cars take credit and laser cards (without a fuss) and have CCTV. You can even book online. If you're sick of riding in a smelly beaten up jalopy with a disinterested unwashed driver, give Xpert Digi Cabs a call.
