On the front of the main entrance to Brighton Bikes are posters for AC/DC and The Who, reminding the customer not to forget that motorbikes are cool, and are inextricably linked to rock music. However the AC/DC and Who concerts they are advertising are actually tribute bands; not so cool, but still, in the right direction. To be honest though, this shop isn't about looks, it's quite simply a good, hard working, honest shop which deals in Bikes and getting those babies on the road. KTM and Yamaha road and Moto X bikes are displayed outside, and the Yamaha Virago especially took my fancy, looking a little bit like a chopper, I suddenly had the urge to throw off the constraints of society and go easy riding. But I didn't, as sleeping under the Californian stars in mid summer cannot be matched by the lovely, but actually quite cold, Sussex Downs in mid winter.

The service here is great and really friendly. The guy who you normally see behind the counter clearly knows the domestic car market inside out and is happy to answer any questions you might have about how to fit or remove anything you might be buying from him. On the down side though the selection of parts can be a little limited. This is mainly, it seems, to do with the size of the place - without a large yard you can't have a large stock. I've been there twice looking for a new wiper motor for my car and had the same stock response both times, "I've not got one in at the minute but call again on Saturday and there should be one then" . To be fair though, if you need to replace a part and don't want to pay the dealers' extortionate prices then this is the place to come first.

You might be surprised though, to discover what some of the day to day fixings like picture hooks, screws for your shelves, a bolt for your car or bike etc, actually cost. This place may look like a metal pick 'n' mix but the prices are a little more than penny sweets. But if that's what it takes to keep such a valuable resource in trading then that's fine by me.

When I took it to the garage I was then quoted by a 2nd person at approx £250 at least without fully knowing what the problem with the issue was, clearly a lack of communication here or a chance to rip me off ! I then suggested that they focus on the issue that they didn't know about and let me know a firm price for the works.... They didn't do this for free, knowing they may get some work out of me they charged me £30 just to look at it so I had some thoughts that this garage is certainly taking me for a ride... After agreeing yes I would like a firm price and to know fully what the issue is I left this with the garage. After having a look I received a phone call to say that my cylinder was leaking and this needed to be replaced plus replacement of the other parallel wheel. They then totalled the amount with this added work at £450 300 quid more than the original quotation... With shock I put the phone down and said I will pick the car up ASAP, this was clearly a rip off !! To prove a point and my incline that the garage was taking me for a ride I then went to another garage to quote..... This garage quoted me £180, parts, labour everything included ! I found out later that the only thing to do with this supposed leak was to adjust my brake shoes/pads so it stops leaking... I know have a full MOT !!! This is £270 difference and the garage was prepared to rip a customer off that much. I want to make customers aware this garage is an absolute rip off and they should not go there !! Awful, awful customer service and clearly out to take people for a ride, they have lost a good customer being in the motor trade myself buying me selling cars !!!

The shop seems clean and more like an attempts to follow the styling of the bigger, glossier, check book biker dealers like P and H in Crawley than your average independent. But it clearly doesn't have the budget behind it as there is little in the way of stock and the bikes seem to be a miss match of second hand machines (with a good couple of classics in there). It's not all bad though repair prices are reasonable, with a puncture repair at twelve pounds, and they seem to be a helpful bunch of people happy to talk to me despite the fact that I didn't need to buy anything.
