Hmmm not sure where to start with this one but i will try and be positive if possible…read more First and foremost the cost of Steve Baggot's repairs are fair but his attitude leaves a lot to be desired, i have sent people his way but most of them have come back and said how bad his attitude is. When i asked them to elaborate they said he is more interested in gossiping outside rather than showing any interest in his customers. As i alluded to earlier he does offer a fair price but theres not much to compare him too and when i sent my nephews bike in he actually took nearly a week to replace 2 wheels, not sure if him locking up earlier than he advertises has anything to do with it. He does do sales but basically he will just show you a catalogue and he orders it in. I have to say that his prices are reasonable on sales also, i paid £200 for 3 kids bikes which is not bad. All in all not a bad place but think it could be better, in particular the service. A bit of competition is what is needed i think.

They got us kitted out with two sturdy bikes, two helmets, and two locks for only twenty pounds total. Considering that the amusement arcade in Morecambe charges twenty pounds per bike this was an amazing deal. We had a very long trip and had to walk several hills, but at the top of each we were surrounded by the breathtaking scenary of the near-south-lakes. We arrived in Kendal after three hours, enjoyed a nice lunch at Farrer's, and had a long trip back via national route six. I called because it looked like we wouldn't make it back in time and the owner let us bring the bikes back in the morning. I will definitely hire bikes from here in the future, and I will always remember this trip.

While Neil M. makes an obvious and valid point about the larger stock of Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op, I don't feel that is necessarily a deal-breaker against buying a bike from The Bicycle Doctor which is still quite sizeable. Plus, I get the feeling that the stock offered by The Bicycle Doctor is quite savvy in its own way, with some unique products which may be hard to find elsewhere in Manchester. For example, an electric bike by Trek at £1,700 and a rainbow of cute pastel-coloured Brompton folding bikes both suggest that people are spending serious money here - in fact I don't think EBC stock electric bikes at all. I parted with cash for an interestingly versatile 100% merino wool 'buff', which can be to protect and the cold and UV also, plus a neat pair of cycling sunglasses which several people have asked me where I bought them from. I am in the market for cycle panniers, and I will definitely consider buying them from the good Bicycle Doctor, especially since they stock the high-end Ortlieb roll-top waterproof designs and even had four or so different colours in stock. On the repairs front, their website states that all their mechanics are Cytech-certified which sounds good enough to me! Lastly, The Bicycle Doctor allocates a significant corner of their precious floorspace to a rack of cycling leaflets detailing local routes, mass rides, and cycle-friendly tourism further afield - an authentic touch which typifies this Workers' Co-op which has been 'Serving the Cycling Community for over 25 years'. (Hey "Bob D"; maybe they didn't want to stop and chat because they're paid to fix bikes, not chat about bikes for 4 hours!!) I've had my bike repaired here a few times, and the staff are always very helpful. They said my bike repair would cost £80, which I was happy to pay (the bike was a wreck lol) but then in the end it only cost me like £50 (and the parts they used were of a reasonable quality). They didn't use expensive 'brand' parts either, which was nice because I hate the whole concept of buying branded stuff anyway (like seriuously, people buy shoes that cost £2.75 for the materials, but they're happy to buy that same pair of trainers for £150 just 'cos it says ADDIDAS on it and has 3 stripes...) Anyway, I'm rambling now so I'll wrap this up; Don't take my word for it, or Bob's word; just try them out and see how you find the experience, or don't... doesn't really make any difference to me :D

He will never try to up sell or squeeze your budget, but offers pragmatic solutions to your cycling needs. Wide range of bike from budget to beauty of all kinds including electric bikes. Staff friendly and knowledgeable, standby their workmanship. I have never had a problem.

I've never been much of a fan of bikes. As a kid, sure, but since I've been old enough to learn to…read moredrive, I've never bothered with a bike. I prefer controlling something with four wheels that offers me a bit more protection if I hit something. Plus, you don't get saddle sore in a car (unless you drive it weird, anyway). However, I recently visited College Cycles in Crosby with a friend and was pleasantly surprised by the selection of bikes on offer there. From the outside, the shop doesn't look particularly big but inside they make good use of the space, ensuring there is a large selection of bikes in various shapes and sizes on show. Their prices are pretty reasonable and competitive and their service is both efficient and personal, with their staff offering friendly advice and help whenever needed. I'll stick to four wheels myself, but if you're more of a two-wheeler kind of person then maybe check out College Cycles.
