Great little hole in the wall if you're looking for something a little different. I was able to walk in without a reservation and sat right down. There were a couple reserved tables, so it would appear as though reservations are definitely an option if it makes you feel more confident about getting in. The restaurant itself is quite small, so if you're going with a group bigger than 4, I would suggest a reservation. The food was quite tasty. The menu has everything from appetizers like gyoza and edamame to sushi and ramen. I stopped in for just a light dinner. The food was hot and fresh, plenty of flavor, and the prices were right about what I would expect to pay for a place like this. Being a smaller establishment, they were out of certain things and that's not too surprising. Just be prepared with back up options, there is plenty to choose from. Overall and great stop off the beaten path.

It makes me a bit sad that this place could've at least been good enough to justify the price, but it wasn't. Either way, I was hungover and needed some sort of noodle soup. I came as soon as it opened at noon and ordered right away. I had the Tonkotsu Ramen (£12.95) and Spicy Salmon Maki (£3.95). Maybe I was hungry or maybe the restaurant just opened, but it felt like a bit of a wait until I was served. With first impression, the bowl of ramen was one of the more sad-looking ones I have ever had. The broth was a bit plain and the egg was not as runny and soft-boiled as I would've liked. Even the slices of chashu were thin and tasteless. Even though the ramen was not the best, it did help with my hangover when there is nothing else nearby. As for the spicy salmon maki, it was pretty tiny but the spice was spot on. I did like this dish a bit more. Overall, pricey for not the best ramen; but it does get the job done where Asian food is scarce in this neighborhood.

Surprisingly authentic Japanese "comfort food." This is a go-to little place down an alley from an alley. It's just a small place with maybe 8-10 tables. The owners wife is from Japan and has done an amazing job teaching the chef some of my favourites like Karaage Chicken, Gyoza, Grilled Unagi, etc. I spent my childhood in Japan. Although the sushi is fresh and perfectly tasty, it's the foods like Katsu don, Tempura, and such that keep us coming back whenever we're in Edinburgh. Be sure and save room for the black sesame mochi ice cream. Delicately soft with a burst of flavour that can only be described as "orgasmic."

One the evening of our first day in Edinburgh we decided to have supper before going back to our hotel and saw a sign for this restaurant. We had to use the iPhone to direct as we kinda missed the lane which is off rose street. It was quiet with just two other tables of people but it was about 9pm. We ordered drinks and had a dish each. The food was good, though I wasn't all that hungry so didn't eat it all. Nice restaurant though I could see into the kitchen from where I was sat, don't tend to like that for some reason. Lol

We chose the latter due to the fact that I'd never heard of this UK chain of Japanese restaurants. I also found the menu to be unique with the dietary-friendly halal, vegetarian, and GF offerings. Not many Japanese restaurants have that. We were welcomed in with the sound of a taiko drum. They tap the drum when entering and before being seated. I found it odd at first, but now I understand after reading about this traditional welcome. The restaurant was filling up fast. We thankfully were seated in a 2 seater booth by the window. It was completely full by the time we left. All the ramen choices looked fantastic. I've never seen such a huge variety of unique flavors. I was drawn to the Shio Yuzu and Shio Truffle. It was a tough decision, but the truffle won that battle. It ended up being a great choice. The truffle really brings out the flavor of the rice in the noodles. Although, these noodles were already pretty special. I think they make them here. There was a good amount of chicken, and that ramen egg was absolutely delicious. A perfectly made custardy yolk. I should have ordered an additional one. My husband's Spicy Chicken Teriyaki with rice was good, but not great. His words, not mine. I didn't try it because I'm not a fan of teriyaki sauce. The chicken gyoza were also pretty good. I was also super happy with the Yuzu Ice Tea from the Mocktail menu. It was very mojito-esque without the rum. A refreshing drink. The service was good. The atmosphere is very lively. I didn't really get a chance to take pictures inside. The décor is lovely, but more enjoyable when it's less crowded. I'd revisit it again if ever in this region. I may have to try their Black Garlic Tonkotsu ramen next time.

What a nice stumbling surprise on a very cold night after touring Edinburgh all day…read more We got there probably an hour before closing. The staff were very friendly and super helpful with recommendations. We ordered a couple of appetizers and some ramens and I must admit that every bite was mouthwatering
