Go see Steve Stevens. He's been there a long time and he knows his stuff. Don't mess around at the home centers, go see a professional.

In years…read morepast I have had disappointing experiences with other florists, so now I try to organize my thoughts so I. can be as specific as possible when I call to place the order. The person on the phone was very helpful and accommodating. I requested a natural, woodsy arrangement in green and white. She asked if I liked curly willow (...do I like curly willow??!! Yes!), and when we concluded our business she said, "We'll make something very nice for you." Well let me just say, Leo Wood hit it out of the park! The pic doesn't do it justice. The finished product was formal enough for the occasion but it had long pieces of curly willow reaching out in stunning asymmetrical glory. I highly recommend this florist!

There are currently zero florists in Rustburg that I could find, so I thought I'd order from a florist in nearby Lynchburg. I went to Leo Wood's website and placed an order for a $45 bouquet with a delivery fee of $18, with a total of around $65 with tax. About 5 minutes later, I got a call without so much as a "hello" and was told in a frustrated tone that "I'm not delivering anything to Rustburg for $45! I'm cancelling this and you can order a more expensive arrangement! It gives you a minimum cost on the website for deliveries outside of a certain radius!" I replied, "Excuse me. You are being very rude. I am not from Lynchburg or Rustburg and have no reference on how far that drive would be from your place of business to my family member's home. Also, I did not read the whole entire website and did not have any alerts that stopped me from placing the order. Go ahead and cancel my order. I refuse to do give any money to a business that speaks to customers in this way." I'm assuming the person I spoke to on the phone is Leo Wood himself, although they never greeted me on the phone or offered their name. Would absolutely recommend Kathryn's Flower & Gift Shop though. They are where you should spend your hard-earned money, not this place.

But its proximity to other cool places is just the beginning. Oxide features works by three different potters and whether you like your clay to be fashioned in a way that is more modern or more traditional, they've got pottery for everyone. On a recent visit I browsed everything from plates, bowls, and vases to honey jars and shot glasses. They even had cute, little handmade gift tags for those of you (not me) who are generous enough to by something at Oxide for someone other than yourself. Even if pottery is not one of your everyday purchases, Oxide is worth a visit so you can see a truly amazing work of art that is literally built into the front wall of the store ... at first glance the front wall looks very white and clean but closer observation reveals that the wall features imprints of hundreds of items from the whimsical (small hearts and stars) to the everyday (scissors and wrenches). The wall, which looks like a freshly scrubbed fossil and covers the entire front of the store, was made by the owner - who must have the patience of a saint - by creating a mold of each item. After creating molds, he cast many, many objects and then literally covered the wall by piecing together the letters, objects, and shapes. This wall is truly the sum of its parts. The pottery is beautiful and the wall is a man-made wonder!
