Barber Shop in several years, but due to my experience with another barbershop that will go unnamed (if they're reading this, they know who they are), I looked to greener pastures. It's very clear that this place is old-school. Like, REALLY old-school. You'll notice the old-timey spinning striped pole out front, the place is about as big as a comfortable living room, and the place is adorned with touches like Maple Leafs memorabilia, a garish green color scheme and uncomfortable metal seats for you to wait on. I was fortunate to not have to deal with any line when I went in, but the experience was awfully strange. The owner (an older gentleman with a huge mustache) didn't say one word to me when I walked in. He looked at me, offered a brief nod and turned back to watch television. His son (at least, I think that's the owner's son) was the one who handled the cut. Instead of facing towards the standard desk/mirror combo, I spent the entire time he was cutting looking towards the opposite wall and the waiting seats, where the owner sat three feet in front of me watching television on a wall to his left (my right). It made for a somewhat uncomfortable experience. The cut was better than I was expecting, and they did a couple nifty touches like using heat-sealing to create a more noticeable part in my hair (I asked for short on the sides and longer on top). That said, feeling the back of my hair as I write this, I'm not sure the guy who cut my hair was all that accurate. It still feels a bit uneven and unkempt, even though the hairline on the back of my neck is even. The strangest part is that this place apparently still works on the honor system. They only take cash and there's no debit machine, so I had to walk down the street to an ATM in a convenience store. On one hand, maybe they're not making enough to just the debit fees that something like Moneris would ding them with, but it makes them look archaic and out-of-date. I was surprised that they had enough faith in me to return with cash. That said, my experience here was decent for a "first" time, and I'd probably be back again. There are a few aspects that should be addressed for the future, though.

I explained that I did not need a shampoo, blow-dry or styling -- just a quick trim to correct the one side. I booked online under the men's haircut category, which is listed at a significantly lower price. I was told they could not honour that price (because I am a woman!?) even though I was requesting less service and considerably less time. I find gender-based haircut pricing frustrating, and absolutely unfair. Haircuts should be priced based on the service, time and complexity involved, rather than simply whether the client is male or female. Their price list includes a gender neutral haircut pricing which is in the middle of a male and female haircut price. I don't get it! Why!? What disappointed me most was the lack of flexibility given that I was returning to address a haircut I had received there only two weeks earlier. When I explained that I was not prepared to pay another $100 just to have one side trimmed, I was simply told they couldn't do it for the price of a men's cut and I left without the correction. I had hoped for better customer service and a little more consideration for a returning client. I am no longer a return customer and I would never return there again.

Once I got in the chair, it seemed like she didn't know how to cut hair. She just touched it and examined the strands of hair piece by piece. It was very strange - it seemed like Gosaha had never seen hair before in her life. She took forever to get started and forever to finish the trim and I thought thank God I can get the F out of here but no...she had the nerve to walk away without saying a word with my damp hair starting to air-dry into a friz. I assumed she was going to get product but she started another customer. At this point it was nearly two hours and and I had to take a piss and get my day going. I almost wish I would have ripped the bib off and left but I sat there like a fool waiting. My day was wasted and the cut was nothing good. I could have gotten the same at the ten dollar dump and still had my Saturday to enjoy. Do not go the Aura or to Hosha, this place is a sham. They call it high-end because the give you a coffee but I don't go to a salon for a coffee or waste my day - I have a damn life. I heard they are closed, if so I'm glad. If they deserve to gtfoh.

My sister in law took me to this salon to get my hair coloured or highlight. My hair stylist provides me lots of good information and also good advise for my hair colour. He is very honest... He only does what he needs to do... Like do partial highlight when that is only what I need for my visit. Unlike some other places always tell you to do full package when you don't need it yet. I have done highlight at other places before and never got any compliment. With him, I am not only getting compliments from my friends, I am getting stopped by strangers who tell me they love my hair style and colour highlight. Not only I am satisfy with my visit at Aura salon, my little princess is also very spoiled with her princess hair cut every time she goes there. The price for kids is reasonable... Especially if you are taking your kids to melon head, take them to Aura salon. All staff there are so friendly and they work as a team!!!

The layering is horrible. The stylist cut off big hunks instead of doing it properly. And, one side is literally longer than the other with straggly bits hanging down at weird places. Unfortunately the stylist chopped the top layer really short as well and thinned the bottom so much it looks like I can't grow my hair long because it is so thin and scraggly. It will be difficult to get someone to reshape it because there's not a lot left to work with. Skip it. Save your money. I've gotten better haircuts at $12 hair places.

Janie is fantastic in hair dressing as a matter of fact, the best that i know of in Oakville. I've tried several salons and hairdressers (low cost to high cost) but this place gave me the best experience ever. Worth the value I paid for. Wash and Blow dry (with a style / even curling) came with a regular cut. I like supercuts for trims etc... But for times when you really need to pamper yourself this is where you need to go. For kids they charge the amount of melon heads and other kids cut places but the results are much better I don't think I'm going anywhere else after going to Janie! I liked her work very much Linda and Sarah gave my girls a very stylish and beautiful haircut! Love it
