But I couldn't pass it up! I was impressed with the place. It was kinda weird at first being that I'm not used to being pampered but the ladies there were really good! It was a little awkward at first because some of the girls (mostly the girl at the desk) seemed like they were kind of unapproachable, but after you come in a few times and you're a regular they really are nice people. The massage was incredible. The best I've had, definitely! The hair cut was average and the color was... well I probably could have done better myself, (I just went back to Regis to see Janet for that ;) They hair stylist that did my hair seemed like she just finished school or something and was kind of slow doing my color (which I believe was mostly re-touching my roots). Everything else was pretty good... and for the $55 and tips that I spent on it was worth it all. As for their regular prices, some services are a bit pricey but they do aim for that "private, exclusive spa" feel. I do recommend that you make an appointment since their hours are a bit weird and they are usually very busy.

There was bondage glue all throughout my natural hair. She glued the extensions directly to my ponytail without any wrap or fabric to protect it. The glue also seeped through the cap she put on the bottom of my hair because she used liquid cap I'm guessing. I've had this style before with another stylist and didn't have this issue at all. It took me 6 hours to remove all of the glue carefully. Also the time estimation on her website is not accurate it took more than double that. Wouldn't recommend.

The ultimate insult was I tipped the braider after she finished even after having to wait 2.5 hours longer than promised and having to remind her of the requested look (versus what she wanted to do instead- which required the others telling her to fix the first few braids), and she was EXTREMELY appreciative but one of the others quipped, it isn't even 20% in French. I can understand more in French so I can speak, so I QUICKLY responded to the commenter that, I was charged more than the price I was initially quoted even after waiting almost 3 hours so the difference in percentage was absorbed by both. Of course, they were shocked that I understood and pointed out the obvious. The one who said it, kept her head down and another said, your tip is appreciated because many people don't tip at all and you waited a really long time because the owner (my sister became sick and we were down a person).

She thought it didn't look orange but I think ended up understanding it did, so she asked me to come back the next day and said it would be a quick fix, but I was in her chair for three hours for a toner. Thankfully it looks better than initially orange, but still brassy. Nothing like the inspiration pictures I showed her. Initially, I did not want to write this review because the owner was so kind and accommodating but I also paid $550 for hair that did not meet my standards. Friends would say "you're too nice , you should write a review ..I wouldn't have paid her for that.." I have gotten my hair done for the last 15 years of my life and I know what I like and don't like. She has other services in this business. This review is long overdue. I've been going to Dana since moving from Los Angeles to Chicago three…read moreyears ago. Coming from southern California where there is a fancy salon on every block, my standards were fairly high and I had always bounced around so naturally I assumed I would have to try out several stylists before finding my 'person.' But from the first time I went to Dana, I have not strayed. My hair isn't easy- it's long, really finely textured and when I first came to Dana was fairly damaged from years of getting it colored. But Dana was so knowledgeable, I knew right away I was in great hands. My hair is naturally a boring ash-brown color and she's managed to give me the most natural, caramel balayage highlights without it looking brassy or turning red which always would happen when I would go to others. What makes her different from other stylists is that she listens to what I want (which is usually something different every couple months) but also helps provide guidance which I LOVE- I want to be able to trust someone who has the expertise and who wants to execute my vision but who will also very kindly educate me when I show her a picture of a color that she knows will clash with my skin tone. In addition to her skill and giving me a quality color and cut every time, she is professional and accommodating and I've never had an issue booking an appointment- she'll always find time to work me in and better yet- she is always on time and I've never been kept waiting once. Finally- I don't know if there is a better endorsement than this: I asked Dana last year if she would do my hair for my wedding day. I had come to her months before as I wanted to add in some clip-in Bellami extensions to have my hair be extra full and thick, and she made sure she color-matched the extensions while coloring my hair. She ended up the day I brought them in for my appointment, spending extra time putting them in and styling because she wanted to make sure I had purchased the correct color/length. After that, I pretty much begged her to be there the day of my wedding because I didn't trust anyone else to get my vision for my special day. Lucky for me, she agreed and I'm happy to say that Dana's become more than a stylist but also a friend.
