I called to get a blow dry for a wedding I had to go to. When I got there I asked Susan if she could do an updo. She was hesitant because my hair is short. She thought about it and said, let's try it and if you don't like it we'll just blow dry it. I have thin hair and Susan worked a miracle. Talented, nice all around a pleasure. Rusty is easily the chillest person I've met since getting into town so far. He's very personable and a very community-oriented type of guy, so it is easy to talk to him. He can pay attention to you and his craft at the same time, and he's great at what he does. It really shows that he knows and loves working with hair. I'm pretty picky about my hair because it is really coarse, so it's difficult to get just right. My type of hair is also not the usual demographic here in St. Augustine, but Rusty seems to know exactly what to do. I was a walk-in while he was working with someone else, but he accomodated me pretty seamlessly in his schedule, but I would make an appointment ahead of time. Overall, I'm glad I went in. read more

I came here for my first time and left didn't liking my end result, which was only a haircut. I had originally showed her a few pics of my vision for my new hairstyle and unfortunately my hair cut was no where near it. After a few adjustments that she tried doing, I just decided to call it quits and tell her it was fine. Now I have to look for another place to get it fixed. Also, the salon wasn't very inviting. There was stuff everywhere and very unorganized in their stations. I won't be coming back. read more

We came here for a haircut because it was basically the closest place to our marina. We were greeted warmly by a woman but we had made an appointment with someone who does curly hair. That person turned out to be Rusty. He took a bit to get us talking but by the time my hair was finished we were all laughing. He made what could have been a mundane experience into a fabulous one; and he's not even gay. He did a great job on our hair too. We will for sure be back when we need our hair cut again. read more

I discovered Rusty North via Yelp after getting a bad haircut at Great Clips a couple of times in the last several months. Rusty is a one cool dude...very friendly and patient. He took his time and paid attention to the small detail. He did an awesome job and did what other hair stylists could not achieve. I havent looked in the mirror since I have left the salon it was supposed to be a warm brown but it's a dark black my eyebrows look insane from rusty putting dye on them . Dye is stuck on my forehead neck also ears on my face looks ridiculous. I cried when I left what if I had a date after the salon? I looked horrible I have scrubed my face my eyebrows have fallen out from the dye an scrubbing my face is breaking out from dye left on forehead for so long an so much on it.. hes a great guy but let me walk out shameful to look at people or people to see me I am a laughingstock stock. Ever had one of those times when another hairdresser screws up your silvers that took you a year and half to grow out? Unfortunately, I did. Most women color their hair to get rid of their silvers, but I LOVED my new silvers and wanted them back! The other hairdresser had used the wrong colors to highlight the blonde ends to make them blend in with the rest of my hair so I wouldn't have to cut the length. I ended up having various shades of brown highlights throughout my hair and underneath my hair was solid dark brown again with no silvers at all. Needless to say, I was in tears ... for days. All my silvers gone ... just like that. I was desperately searching for another hairdresser that could fix this mess. I found Rusty on Facebook. I saw him in a photo with someone else I knew. So I asked her and she encouraged me to go see him. I'm glad I did. Rusty took the time to discuss what happened and what I wanted the end result to be. He was able to schedule me in for the next day which was Friday. School started on Monday and I didn't to have my hair looking like what it was. He not only fixed the problem, but my hair looked almost like it did before. I know it will take some time for those silvers to grow back out and that dark brown dye underneath to fade out, but at least what he's doing for me helps make it more tolerable. I have another appointment scheduled with him in September. I must add that most salons I go to I'm not very comfortable, but with Rusty I felt comfortable and more relaxed and actually enjoyed being there. Being deaf I needed someone who would really 'listen' to me. He did that and more. read more
