Once you step inside, though, there is more of a downtown vibe. There's great music playing that makes you want to dance, it's bright and clean and everyone seems to be happy to be there. It's a place I wouldn't mind hanging out in. Nate, who cut my son's hair, did a fantastic job. He listened to what my son wanted, albeit they were vague requests. Empire does full service barber treatments, however, I also saw a female getting her hair done-so this place is not just for the men! While getting my hair cut I found out this place is POC owned which is always a plus! They also give back to the community, which is amazing! Alex made sure I was getting the haircut I needed and stopped to check that everything looked great and that 100% satisfied throughout the entire haircut. Kristin listened to me, and told me what pieces she would cut and which ones she would leave. She showed me the back where my layers had started looking very disjointed and made a recommendation to cut a little more and even things up. I trusted her and her expertise, so I said "go for it!" The outcome was amazing-everything looked blended and the curls fell where they are supposed to, not haphazardly like they were before. A true "curly cut" is done when your hair is dry so they can see the curl pattern, how your hair lays, etc. Kristin does this and then follows it up with a relaxing shampoo/conditioner. The next day, after getting my hair cut yesterday afternoon, my hair is vibrant, my curls are alive and well and I feel great. I will definitely be back as a repeat customer.

I had my consultation and knew right away I wanted to book with her. She is very much educated and knowledgeable about working with curly hair. She even taught me a few things to do with my hair to make sure it stays and looks healthy. I wanted a full coverage honey blonde but really wanted her opinion since I have dark hair and never dyed it in over a decade. She was very honest and gave me options. The results are a lot better than I had imagined. Finally safe to say I've found my new hair stylist that actually specializes in curly hair. But now after all is said and done, I'm just upset my hair feels and looks just a little bit worse if anything 4 hours of salon time and 400$ later. Seems like it would be no big deal, but actually very stressful! I called common hair salon because it's pretty close to the proximity of where I live. The receptionist was incredibly nice and crazy enough (this never happens!) they had an appointment that same day with Tonya! My natural hair color is quite dark, but I have gone blonde for years because I have a lot of gray growing in and it just seems to grow out and blend better, I also have enough hair for probably three people on my head, and so requires a lot of foils and a lot of patience for a full highlight. Tonya had a great consult, ultimately I said "I trust you, and I'm easy" when it came to her process and what toner and products she was going to use. I could not be happier! Number one she is incredibly fast and her attention to detail is brilliant. Number two she is fun to talk to, she's a normal person, no ego, and we had a great time connecting. And number three she obviously knows what she's doing with color/blondes and has a ton of experience. I already rebooked with her. She did a great job. I am 100% happy with the outcome! Pricing is a lot, not gonna lie about that, it was high $300's; anyone with blonde color preferences knows you get what you pay for though. Poor cabinetry, weird ceiling panels that shoot for elegance but miss the mark. The washing stations aren't comfortable. You can head every convo throughout the salon because of the wide open space and you literally can stare at the people on the other side of you due to poor positioning of chairs/mirrors. The floors were dirty, there was hair and dust on the cabinets at opening, AND the BIGGEST issue I noticed that there were no sanity stations for scissors or brushes. My hairstylist used a curling brush that had hair already in it! I'm praying it was only used on freshly washed hair, but still I don't think that's acceptable. As far as my stylist, I'm happy with her and her providing me with the services I scheduled. The service was slightly more than the lists prices online so they should update the pricing. Since I liked the stylist I will give it another try but the salon isn't something itself I look forward to entering again.
