I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share my experience to help others make informed decisions and know what they could potentially be going into. I came to Ashley after not having my hair done in over two years and was really looking forward to the appointment. I asked for a balayage that would help blend into my natural dark hair and help cover my greys, along with face-framing layers to bring more shape and movement- especially having curly hair.
Unfortunately, the result left me extremely disappointed. The balayage started much further down my head, did not help cover the greys I had specifically mentioned were important to me, and turned out very brassy and orange -- to the point I cried all day when I got home. I understand lightening dark hair can be a process which I knew going into the appointment and knew I wouldn't be at my goal colour right away but I was never clearly told that this would be the outcome. In fact, there was very little consultation or discussion beforehand, which I now realize should have been a red flag.
Additionally, I didn't receive the face-framing layers I asked for -- something Ashley later admitted was because she felt distracted due to my young son being present. However, during the appointment, she never mentioned feeling rushed or uncomfortable. On the contrary, she assured me everything was fine. If she had communicated any concern at the time, I would have gladly rescheduled. It's also worth noting that she never asked me where I part my hair, and as a result, my cut and colour is uneven.
When I raised these concerns after the appointment, I was met with defensiveness. I paid over $200 and felt the service did not reflect the price or what was discussed. I was offered a free tone and haircut correction, but at that point I didn't feel comfortable returning. I was told I hadn't paid "full price" for my haircut -- apparently because it was $5 less -- which felt dismissive considering how much of the service I didn't receive or wasn't happy with.
When I tried to explain that this could have been handled more professionally and with more care, Ashley responded that she "stands by her work" and hopes I "find a fantastic hairstylist like herself."
Hair isn't just about vanity -- it's a big part of how we carry ourselves and feel confident. I left this appointment feeling upset, unheard, and frustrated by how it was handled. I truly hope this feedback encourages better communication and professionalism going forward. read more
