After being burned by sloppy work, from one tradesman, and over priced work by another tradesman, I was bound and determined to do this job myself. DO NOT ATTEMPT a stucco patch if you are not in the plastering business!!! No YouTube video, online tutorial, or helpful, well-meaning family member in the trade can prepare you for how frustrating this work can be. Everything must be the right consistency in order to hold up, and there's really something to be said about just paying someone to do something that can make you crazy (such as trying to get stucco to stick to a vertical wall). And No, No, No. It doesn't matter how good you are with drywall mud. Stucco mud is just not the same. I quickly figured this out, and sheepishly washed off the wasted material, and called Jim at Bay Plastering. After speaking with him, I was instantly relieved. While it was a bit more than I planned to spend, I knew I just needed to have someone finish the job. His team was quick to come by and start the project. They were clean, and courteous, and did a skim coat over the previous tradesman's work that had already started to crack. If you have a patch, or even an entire house, don't hesitate to reach out to Jim. He won't let you down, and you can let a professional do the hard work while you get to move onto more exciting projects within the DIY-er's reach.

When Mike (the owner of A Better Plaster) met with me and the contractor he lied about the availability of the correct sand and accepted no responsibility for the poor quality of workmanship. We want to stay in this home until carried out "feet first". We searched for a local construction team that had knowledge and experience in ADA guidelines, as well as a track record for good design and customer service. The team needed to have a designer with these attributes, as well. In the past I had overseen the remodel of a bath, choosing and scheduling contractors myself. I did not want to do that again! Talmadge was an easy choice. Jeremiah Trask was our project manager and a delight to work with. Our designer, Kristen Totah, was the best (and I used to manage a design studio). She asked the right questions, and nailed it. Everything she brought for approval was perfect, and just as I requested. Jeremiah kept the subcontractors flowing on schedule. We hit one snag with a defective plumbing part that took a while to diagnose and even longer for the manufacturer to admit to it and send a replacement, but Jeremiah and the supplier kept at it until it was resolved. The bathroom now has multiple, attractive grab bars (I requested that even the towel bars be ADA grab bars), a large shower rather than a tub/shower, a custom vanity and new low-flow toilet. You can find a less expensive contractor, but not a better one. You get what you pay for. Buyer beware! I…read morehired Alan and his company to restucco my house. At First, Alan was very friendly and seem a honest businessman. We signed the contract and got the job completed. Initially it looked great, but it it quickly turned disappointing. It has only been eight months and the stucco has begun cracking everywhere. I contacted Allen to come take a look and he said that I should not worry about it and that he would come and patch them up, but when I reached out multiple times to schedule the patchwork, he just ghosted me and never responded. Lesson learned cheapest bid will give you the cheapest quality.
