I have had issues with the knee for the last 3 years and the previous surgeon kept saying everything is fine. Dr Yoo took X-Rays in June of 2026 and determined I had Catastrophic Failure of the Femerol Head in my left knee. He immediately scheduled me for major reconstructive surgery- total knee revision. Dr Yoo is the most Amazing Surgeon and Human I know. From the day I met him to current day , one thing has remained the same. His demeanor and caring attitude for people. He is so willing to share his perspective on the situation and he is also an incredible listener. His compassion for others is so obvious and he always has your best interest at heart. Since my Surgery in August 2026, which was a very complicated and lengthy surgery, I now have none of the crazy pain I had before.Dr Yoo did an amazing job and I am so grateful for him and his team. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I'm not sure which was more frustrating: waiting over **2 1/2 hours** past my scheduled appointment to be seen, or scheduling a virtual follow-up to review my MRI only to never receive the call. Instead, I received a voicemail summarizing the MRI findings. MRI results can be complex, and I had questions about what they meant, my diagnosis, and the next steps. That's a conversation that should happen directly with a patient--not through a voicemail. I understand that medical offices can run behind and that physicians have demanding schedules. However, patients' time is valuable too, and timely communication is an important part of quality care. I truly hope this experience was an exception because I had heard such wonderful things about this practice, but unfortunately, it left me feeling frustrated and unheard. *While I was waiting 2.5hrs for my appt a lady came in and said "I had to come b/c no one answers the phone...while I don't have an issue w/ the nurse calling or emailing me back, I just have an issue w/ time management...be aware the Ortho Dr only works there VERY LIMITED hours and maybe if I was told that...I would have asked for someone else*

On said apt just now the np Kaye was outright rude and uncaring. She then decided that I was "not happy" and she could assist me finding somewhere else. When all I said was that I did schedule the pain management place they referred me to. I cannot fathom trusting this place or these foul people to ever work on my spine. It's a blessing to search for proper care elsewhere before I let these people actually do anything. I will be filling a complaint with the medical board regarding negligence.

She thanked me for getting the forms in the evening prior which cut down on the wait time for my appointment. A very short wait And I was called back by the RN Amy. Once again put at ease immediately. She smiled and was down to earth as we covered the basics and discussed our siblings (my sister came with me for support...She doesn't usually care for doctors or facilities for that matter... Just saying. I was honestly a little bit nervous she might get feisty because she can do that!) Dr Kevin Smith entered the room shortly thereafter and, noticed by my sister, had a full page of handwritten notes that she mentioned to me later...means old school...we liked that. I was very pleased with a no sugar coating honest consultation and the fact that he actually read my MRI and notes prior to the appointment...was a relief! We didn't have to spend 20 minutes talking about why I was there. He already knew. More old school stuff. Love it! This doctor looks you in the eyes when he's talking to you he discussed a few things that were not included in my referral from my spine doctor. I concluded that Dr. Kevin Smith truly wants the HELP to find the least restrictive solution for living well. I didn't get the feeling that I was just another name coming through his office. He smiles and laughs and just gives you the feeling that you are spending time with an old friend discussing the days of old sitting on the veranda with an ice cold glass of sweet tea. In the early Spring I suffered from a neck injury that sent a pre-existing condition spiraling out of control, and I had herniated my C5-C6 and C6-C7 cervical discs. Causing tremendous pain, and numbness and tingling in my left arm. After failed PT, two epidurals, and trigger point injections, I researched for the SD areas best spine specialist and Dr. Nelson's name appeared at every turn. I was mostly focused on finding a surgical solution that allowed for me to keep an active lifestyle or decrease my range of neck motion. Thankfully he is also associated with Scripps, who has been nationally recognized for their patient care. Dr.Nelson is one of the very few in San Diego that is highly specialized in the Mobi-C artificial disc replacement device for the use in more than one cervical disc replacement. When I met Dr. Nelson my wife and I were blown away by his compassion, his attention to detail, his ability to empathize, and to listen. He answered all of our questions and proposed possible solutions from livijg with what I had with medication management to having surgery. I opted for a two level Mobi-C disc replacement over the old school cervical fusion, after careful research into the pros and cons, and finding that my condition met the criteria for the implants. I had surgery last week and could not be any happier!!! All of my pre-operative pain, numbness, tingling, and loss of motion has since been resolved. Outside of some post surgical pain and sore throat, I am back on track!
