I would say not only the highest quality in taste but also the presentation. You should try the duck. The downside is probably the price and the limited seating. I think because it is in the city centre that people probably order and takeaway. Also there is nowhere to park because of it. I mean a few spots but only for like drop offs. The dumplings were so tasty and rich in flavor. The staff was good. Nothing special but not horrible either. I also love to eat so I would have liked to see better proportion of sizes and quantity.

The fish roe soup and fried flounder were amazingly fresh, likely one of the perks of being in a coastal city. The kimchi, OMG, how do they make it taste so good?! I wish I could bring a bucket of their kimchi home with me! Will definitely visit again whenever I'm back in New Zealand, if not making a trip just for their food!

Rich pork broth with mix of pork from pork steak to fatback/belly type pieces and some other more chewy pieces/. All added to a good soup. Comes with a side of rice and some kimchi, radish and onion. Open from 5pm till 2am every day, Ah Ssak attracts both the diner looking for their stomachs to be…read morereplenished and the jovial drinker, eager for the taste of Korean wine and spirits. As such, the menu offers both light dishes such as fried pancakes and dumplings to absorb the soju as well as large hotpot sets (that numbered the few items over $20), which can serve three or four people. Being a brazen carnivore who admires the Korean penchant for barbecuing at any time of the year, I was disappointed to hear Ah Ssak was out of charcoal. Instead I settled for the next best thing, the perennial bulgogi (sliced barbecued pork with rice $13) whilst Kevin ordered the fried flounder with rice ($14). We also ordered the kimchi and seafood pancake ($20) for the table. The bulgogi was a surprisingly large serving of meltingly tender pork fried on a cast iron dish with a mildly spicy red sauce that was moreish and tasty. Although intended to be a single serving, I couldn't imagine one person managing to finish this alone. Kevin's dish was an impressive sight, a whole flounder that had met the deep fryer and come out crispy but not over-cooked. Our two mains came accompanied by two sets of banchan (side dishes). These consisted of kimchi (a traditional spicy, pickled and fermented cabbage that I can't get enough of), a vegetable-filled pancake dressed with a green onion and chilli dressing, pickled chilli cucumber and braised flounder with potato. They were all delicious in their own right, and paired with the barbecued pork, the two more than make a meal. The kimchi and seafood pancake arrived piping hot with crispy bits around the edges; orange in colour and filled with chopped squid, it was a well executed fritter made all the more delicious by the tangy soy and chilli dipping sauce. Our final and without a doubt best dish of the evening came in the form of fresh raw fish with vinegared vegetables and red pepper paste ($30). A specialty of Ah Ssak, the salad was a splendid mound of some of the freshest fish I've ever had, thinly sliced and tossed with shredded pear, cucumber, lettuce, cabbage, spring onion and roasted seaweed and topped with sesame seeds and a properly Korean-hot dressing that doused the salad a warm red colour. The dish was also laced with a mysterious pungent herb I had never tasted before, of which its identity evaded even the Koreans at the table. So utterly delicious was this salad that it converted Mark, a previous fish-avoider who ironically works in the seafood department of a supermarket, from no to go as far as raw fish is concerned. "That's delicious!" he cried, "It doesn't taste like fish at all!" as he went in for a second taste of this game-changing dish. Ah Ssak is a versatile restaurant with something for everyone, bridging the gap between good food and a budget.

Anyone who knows me, knows how deep my love for Korean food runs. I am perpetually asked where the…read morebest Korean bbq in Auckland is, and regrettably up until this point I've only been able to shrug my shoulders in frustration. People have suggested other places and they are OK but nothing has really fully lived up to the standards that I am used after having the real deal back in Korea for so long. Well I am ecstatic to report that Red Pig, end to end is the real deal not only in Auckland but perhaps in all of NZ (yes I know what a bold claim that must be!). The meat selection is what you would expect but the quality of the meat is quite high. The price is reasonable but if you are expecting the same level of gluttony from a bbq buffet you will be disappointed. I would recommend one serving of meat per per person for 4 people and under. For over 4 people you could probably order a bit less that 1 serving per person. The meat is only 1 part of the experience, they have both stonegrill (for porkbelly), and charcoal options (for most of the other cuts). MOST importantly the side dishes and accompaniments to the cut of meat is different and they have paired them genuinely. The staff are super friendly and helpful and genuinely interested in catering to the non-korean crowd which is a BIG PLUS. For most first-timers or novices, Korean bbq can be a bit intimidating but certainly this is not the case at Red Pig. Another plus is that they have a decent menu of other Korean mains as well, so for those who are not keen on bbq or vegetarian they will have options to enjoy as well. I stridently recommend their seafood pancake! I was very impressed by their extensive Korean alcohol selection and even was able to try a peach soju which is waaaay too drinkable. As if the experience couldn't be more genuine, there's even a Karaoke bar next door! Let's just say this is the closest I've felt to Korea in an incredibly long time! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

With the happy hour special dinner and drinks came to $25 per person which is a steal considering how much we ate. Funky pop music set the scene and a handy spot to store your bags under your seat so they don't get in the way. It was the side dishes that came with the BBQ meat that really made the meal sing from flavor packed Kimchi, fresh salads, pickles and lettuce leaf to make a kinda taco with the BBQ meat everything was fresh and tasty.

They bring out an array of condiments which are continuously topped up (complimentary). Cheap beer & wine options. I thought this place was great, and definitely plan to return so I can work my way through the rest of the menu.

To me, thats a bit harsh. And I will give you 3 reasons why I think they deserve more star. 1. The food isn't over priced, you might think 18 dollars is a lot for a bento set. But Kubicks portion size is fairly big. 2. Their flavours are quite authentic, authentic Korean that is. Most people think they do Japanese food, but they do not. Its Korean, and they do Korean versions of Japanese food. 3. And lastly, they have those very cheap Sushi's. And the little take away donburi is great value for money. Now, some people might complain about their Sushi. But I have no issues with them myself. The trick is that you stay away from any fish sushi unless they are made a la carte. Their spicy teriyaki chicken sushi has a nice kick at the end. So, not a bad place to eat if you are in a hurry. Food is nice, service is as friendly as what you'd expect from a fast food place. Trust me, you can do a lot worse then Kubick if you don't know your asian food. Truth be told, I eat there once every two weeks or so. :-) So yea.

But if you're visiting I'd give it a pass.
