A quintessential country Christmas tree farm experience! From the moment you cross the small bridge…read moreover the Landsmankill stream and park next to the century-old red barn, the smell of wood smoke and the sight of friendly faces greet you. Staff and guests are often roasting chestnuts (on the open fire, of course) and the crew there is eager to help you select the perfect tree for your home. They have a great selection of cut-your-own Christmas trees in the back plot, and plenty of pre-cut trees right up front to choose from. Similar or better prices to everywhere else in the area, but in a class of its own for experience. Bring a camera, pour yourself a cup of hot cider, sit by the fire, chat with the staff and guests, and take in the whole experience. I'm a fan! Even if you already have your own artificial tree, stop by and hang out for some extra Christmas cheer. The barn stocked with antiques (not for sale) and decorated with fresh cut garland, fresh Christmas wreaths and kissing balls (the latter two ARE for sale), is worth the trip alone. Definitely on the list of "things to do when visiting Rhinebeck" this holiday season. Past years, they've had dog sleds to help pull your tree, live music and other fun events at the farm from Thanksgiving weekend through Christmas eve. While not as close as everything else in the village, Saltsmans Christmas tree farm is walkable from the shops and restaurants at the center of town. I grew up going here and we used to walk through the woods between our home and the tree farm to cut our own tree at Tremp's.

The farm is well maintained and the views are beautiful. There are so many amazing trees it was hard to pick a favorite. Our tree is up at home and our house smells of fresh pine. I've been cutting my family trees here since I was a kid - nearly 30 years. Now I live in NYC but still come back annually. It's wonderful to have my kids share this experience. I fully recommend!

Everything was sanitized after each use, And all staff wore face masks, which is important for public safety! They offer to wrap your tree for you, fortunately for us we have a truck and did not need to have it wrapped up this time around. ALL trees are priced at one flat rate! No matter how big or how small, providing customers with the flexibility in sizes to meet their needs! This is by far the best Christmas tree experience in Dutchess County. If you are in the market for a Christmas tree, look no further then Primrose Hill Farms!

They are open through 12/20. Who doesn't have trees on the brain right around Thanksgiving? We went the Saturday after and it was a perfect experience, from the selection of trees to the helpful staff to the incredibly low price of $65 per tree. We have a great room with vaulted ceilings in a chalet-style home and have wanted a huge tree since we bought the house 2 years ago. Our first Christmas in this house was last year and we bought what we had thought was a big tree, at 8 feet, but it looked tiny! We had bought it at a lot and the biggest trees were so expensive. I couldn't believe that ALL trees are the same price at Abel's! It's my first time going to an actual farm, so I'm not sure if this is standard. One of the workers asked us what we were looking for and directed us towards the blue spruce area because it had the tallest trees. There is a LOT to choose from here. We found our perfect enormous tree in minutes. What you need to know: -cash or check only -pay first and get a ticket -they provide hand saws but will allow you to bring your own. We brought a chainsaw (not encouraged, but allowed, heheheh) -there are handcarts but you may luck out like we did and someone may drive up to bring your tree down for you -they will wrap up your tree and strap it to your car Finally, tip those dudes! They deserve it. This is a novel concept to me, but apparently some folks actually tailgate here. There's a special lot for that. Now go and get your tree! It's not even 12/1 and with the way everything is going this year, you deserve that perfect tree to make the holidays at home the best that they can be.

Their staff members are incredibly friendly and will help you load your tree onto your car. But if you choose to do it yourself, they provide twine (though trust me, if you're loading it on top of your car, they certainly know what they're doing). Also the farm takes both cash and card, have their own website which clearly defines the prices, and have a small little food/Christmas market by where you pay for your tree. Some advice: You'll want to park in the lot that's directly behind the building you first see when turning into their property. You've the option of walking to the tree field (it's literally a 5 minutes walk) or hitching a ride on their vehicle. Once you find your tree, they'll tag it, give you the corresponding ticket, load it on an atv, then bag it for you. You meet them back by the market place, give them the ticket, they'll measure it, write the height on your ticket, you'll pay for it in the market place, they'll stamp your ticket, you take it back to the guys bagging the trees, they'll give you your tree and offer to help load it onto your car. Honestly, they've got the whole process covered well. FYI: I don't know how this farm operated back in 2011 but it is by far no longer what the first reviewer is saying. You pay per foot (can see on their website) and they do take card.

The owners Amy and Steve were super nice and helpful. My family and I went on Black Friday to purchase a pre-cut tree for $80. Currently, their trees are just babies and growing. They had two types of pre-cut trees to choose from; there were a few to choose from but we found the perfect tree! They had a vendor onsite making spiked hot chocolate, espresso martini, and various others. The interior of the barn was cozy with plenty of seating. There were plenty of items you can purchase in there, such as soap, honey, ornaments, etc. We got to pet the animals on the farm right outside, my children loved it. They also hosts events such as candle and ornament making, to name a couple. Overall, a lovely place to visit for events, purchase a Christmas tree, and even pet some farm animals!
