The sensory gym includes swings, beanbags, Rock wall, dark room, light box, vibration, balls, scooter, trampoline, tactile bin, weighted equipment and music.
Walls are soft green, filled with calming pictures, soft classical music playing, variety of soft toys and clutter free to create a calming space. They have a variety of scents and tactile balls to address other sensory needs as well. They also have a black room with all different switch toys, addressing children with low vision. The sensory room is used to calm and/or stimulate students based on their individual needs, support academic function, and improve fine/gross motor skills.
This gym addresses motor planning, eye hand coordination, sensory organizing, etc. while in the sensory room, children are working on activities of daily living, fine motor play, socialization, visual-motor development, and group activities.
The sensory room is used throughout the school day for individualized therapy session, group therapy sessions, collaborative treatment sessions, scheduled sensory diets, and crisis management.
