They do a really good batter with the fish and I think that's what makes it good. Service is always very prompt - when we ring in an order, it's always waiting for us when we arrive. Their hot chips are good quality and they always give us a generous portion. They do a range of Chinese food too here and it is also quite good - considerably better than some of the rival takeaways in the neighbourhood. The Roberts Road location of these shops is quite popular with people on the weekends but you can generally get a park. There's a good selection of eateries here (Dominos, a bakehouse, Thai etc) but I reckon Blue Lagoon is probably the best of them. Much to my surprise, the spring roll tasted like cinnamon. I couldn't really figure it out. It wasn't terrible as such, just unexpected.... That being said, the fried rice was brilliant. It wasn't oily and didn't make you feel guilty for eating most of the container - which I did. The portions were good and prices were what you'd expect - about $10 for fried rice. Tony's chips were also pretty good - crisp and crunchy; just the way I like them, and with a good amount of salt too. There's nothing worse than not enough salt on your hot chips, so while their spring rolls were a bit strange, you can rely on Tony's to supply good fried rice, sausages and chips. If you are out this way, you are better off going to the Blue Lagoon on Roberts Road if you want fish and chips. I tried their Chinese food as well and again I was non-plussed - what I ate was quite greasy and I did not enjoy it. We're not exactly spoiled for choice for eateries in Te Atatu South but I usually venture further afield (eg to Lincoln Road) if I want takeaway on the weekend.
