I knew little about this event when the event popped up but as I couldn't go to MADE in the Saturday, I thought why not! I knew hacienda was a night club in the 90s but that was about it! And I'm sure someone mentioned there would be an orchestra which sounded fun!
So on the day as hungover as I was, I made it just before the gates shut around 5...I have no clue why they close so early as the main event wasn't on til 7...but I wasn't disappointed. There was basically no queue for my ticket, a number of seats outside to sit on & some street food stalls which were well priced.
We went to watch the warm up act which I later found out was the guy from New Order...this made me very happy as that is much more my scene than heavy dance music - although my hungover self was regretting putting on the sequins as the demographic was late 30s - late 40s, something a little more casual may have meant I would have fitted in a little better!
Between the acts we grabbed a delicious salt beef burger from smoqued & got some cider from the bar. The selection limited & queues a little long at first but that's to be expected. It was good news that they took card at the bar! Digbeth is a nightmare for a cash machine & you weren't allowed back out of the venue once you were in.
The main event lasted around 90 mins. It was an uplifting show, some classic 90s songs/artists ( Armand van Helden, Black Box) & even those songs I didn't know I danced along watching the sunset over the rail arches of Birmingham. The end was fantastic - ' you got the love ' played out as we all sang along. The show finished at 9 which worked well for a Sunday.
Well done to Dan for securing tickets, MADE is on my list for next year!! read more
