I checked my email multiple times and never received the email with the entry code for access. I called the business 3 times, messaged them through the appointment portal, and waited 30 minutes outside and no one responded or picked up the phone. Extremely frustrating as I drove 45 minutes to come to this appointment. I would NOT book with this business as they are negligent and unresponsive. They have no accountability - my appointment is noted as confirmed in the portal but no one was at the business when I arrived. Loved the decor of this place, apparently each room has a different theme? Today I was in the SHIPS room with Briana, my waxing technician. I had a brazillian and my underarms done, the whole experience went very well overall. Briana was engaged, professional, and really easy to talk to--our conversation made the time fly by. Every so often she'd check in about what was going to happen next or ask me to shift positions, which helped put me at ease because it really emphasized that she knew what she was doing. I was a regular client for the last year, plus. Spent over 1200.00 in services at Habit, and have always enjoyed my various service providers and sent them countless referrals as I am also in the beauty industry at a salon down the street. I had to accommodate a client who is going to be late for a service the same day I had a wax scheduled with Amy. As soon as I found out about this conflict I called habit immediately to push back or move the service, 10 hours prior to said appointment. Ebony answered and handled the situation, mentioning that they ask for a 12 hour notice, but saying nothing about any sort of charge that would be applied to my card. I was gracious for the flexibility and went about my work day. 3 hours later I have a charge on my card for 85.00 and a future appointment has been marked as a no show, which is of course false and impossible. When I called back for clarification Ebony answered again, told me she couldn't resolve it and that neither my service provider or the business owner was able to talk to me, and proceeded to hang up on me mid sentence when I was asking her why she never mentioned I would be charged. As someone in customer service myself I would never hang up on my own client and definitely not on someone else's, and I always always communicate when any sort of cancellation policy will be enforced prior to running a charge. I have never cancelled or rebooked a service here before, and come every 3-4 weeks on the dot. I have tried to contact Carrie the owner and Amy my service provider both via email and calls and no one is getting back to me so maybe this will help deliver the message and help anyone reading this avoid getting faulty charges and "no shows" marked for appointments that haven't happened yet. Plenty of other waxing and sugaring options in the neighborhood who will treat you so much better. read more

So I have only ever had Briana and Carrie for services and they are both amazing. The both have really awesome personalities and are fun to talk to. I feel like I made some new friends while getting waxed lol! Briana I always go to to get a Brazilian and she is awesome and does a thorough job. I went to Carrie for the first time to get my brows done and she was fantastic. What I enjoyed was that she asked me how I like to have my brows look and made sure I was happy afterwards. When you find your way through the hidden red door and up the stairs, you're immediately greeted with a heaping glass of red or white wine. I came to Habit for a Brazilian and brow; my experience was soso. I personally find sugaring to be weird, on certain areas it is less painful and more painful on others. This spa has a preference for sugaring which is not my thing, it also tends to cause more ingrowns, although that may be just me. Others have commented they like that you are offered a drink when you arrive but drinking before waxing actually makes it more painful. No biggie because I didn't accept the drink, but I could smell alcohol on my estheticians breath which bothered me. She made my eyebrows way too thin, a less natural look than I go for. Overall the wax was just OK. If someone asked, I would say if you like sugaring go here for a wax but go somewhere else for brows. All in all not for me and I won't be back. read more

I am ashamed to be writing this review so late. The truth is that I have thought about it every day since I had my first experience at Habit. There is no hyperbole when I say that I think about Habit on a daily basis. Every To-Do list has "write review for Nycole" at the top. So let me break it down quick. I'm going to probably get weird/ too personal/ and creepy so avert your eyes if you're not prepared because... FINALLY IT'S HAPPENING. Partially because I have an appointment there in 3 hours and 9 minutes...but mainly because HABIT IS THE SHIT. Let me get more specific-NYCOLE is the shit. She is the only person I can credibly vouch for but I'm sure others are just as magical. I'm serious-I said magical. She is magical. I never in a billion years thought getting follicles ripped from my snooze could be a rainbow making, unicorn riding experience...but it happened. Nycole is the most fantastic person I've ever had near my lady regions. Sorry boyfriend. I've never had anyone take so much care and responsibility for making sure I left 1,010% happy. She knows EXACTLY what she is doing. You don't want anyone who is clueless down in your business because that's just dangerous! People pull all sorts of hairy shenanigans (excuse the pun) when they're just trying to get the job done. It's not uncommon for patience, cleanliness, and precision to go out the window when someone wants to move on to the next client. Not with Nycole--she spent so much time and care into making me feel comfortable and secure. She answered all my stupid questions and tried to solve all of my super sexy problems. She paid attention to detail and even wrote down key "points" for me to remember after I left. THEN!!!! This freaking fantastic person, took the time to send me an E-Card reminding me about the points again because she probably sensed I listened to zero of them. It was sensational. My mother doesn't even send me E-Cards. I don't know if my enthusiasm is clear enough in this review but if the message is getting muddled, let me summarize: GO TO HABIT AND BOOK NYCOLE AND ENJOY BEING WAXED. You deserve it. Can not believe how good this place was. The dark and almost hidden entrance is a great contrast to the warm welcome you'll receive inside. I did get a little confused when I'd entered into the waiting room, 'is there somewhere to check-in?' I asked another customer. She was quick to assure me that someone would come soon, even going further to help me find someone if I had needed. (I was a little early, so I waited.) The people I met there were so positive and upbeat, I got the sense that they really love coming here, for the various services. Everyone I saw, left with a skip in their step. (In fact, I did too!) My therapist Carrie was running late. I had only booked my appointment 15 minutes beforehand, she hadn't been able to see my booking due to being with another customer. When I met her, she gave me such a generously warm and apologetic greeting, despite it not being her fault. She even insisted on lowering the price for me and refused to let me over-tip. The wax itself (full Brazilian) was executed in record time, only 15 minutes! Despite the speed it was pretty thorough and relatively comfortable. The conversation throughout was a very pleasant distraction. The most important things to me during such a treatment is to feel comfortable and clean. I had no issues in either department. The bathroom has everything you need to get ready, the studio itself was surprisingly clean despite the lush decor, leaving only perhaps the waiting room as being a little dusty. The waxing is done with care.... and honestly, it was the least painful Brazilian I've ever had. Bronwyn is awesome. Painless waxing after months of neglecting my self care. She used a mix of waxes based on my hair type and the growth. Thankfully I don't have that much hair but what I do have can be hard to remove at the root and I need it done properly to prevent ingrowns. Bronwyn was great. I can feel that she really removed all the hair at the roots! I'll update in a month or so with growth and seeing her but she is now my regular go-to. I'm also looking forward to booking nails, massages, facials and waxing at the same place since they have 3-4 different people running their own businesses specializing in different treatments! I was born with a Frida Kahlo unibrow, so it is imperative that I get it waxed on a regular basis. Thanks to Daily Candy SF, I found Carrie, the best waxist in San Francisco! Carrie is great because she provides sound guy advice while shaping your brows. She also puts pressure on your skin after every rip and pull, which helps to minimize the pain. If you don't have a high threshold for pain, she will offer you wine so you can booze it up before your waxing. I always leave Habit with two (not one!) perfect-looking brows! I miss you Carrie! Ok, so I feel like the high school outcast who is raggin on the prom queen but here goes. This is not for the faint of heart... Some things I noticed about Carrie over several visits: - She is averse to touching you and makes you pull your own skin apart when waxing. Can't she just wear gloves? If you're paying $60 for 10 minutes of pain, you think she'd do all the work. And I am the kind of person who showers before a wax! - There was bleeding. Is that normal? Shouldn't three different kinds of fancy wax prevent that? - I had to wait 10-20 minutes on 3 of 4 appointments. - The last time I came she spent 5 minutes on me, and I didn't realize until I got home that she was skimpy and missed the sides down below on my bikini wax. I saw Amanda once and she was good, and more friendly then Carrie, but still painful. She charged me extra for what turned out to be a "modified bikini" where some places would have just charged me for a bikini for the same amount of hair off. That was fine, just unexpected. Pros: You can book online. Carrie and Amanda are decent at what they do. That place waxes all of the Marina so you can expect it to be a crowd favorite. Cons: They are not the best. I don't find Carrie to be that friendly or that comforting or that careful. Amanda, I would have to try again to make a fair judgement. I think my friends still see her so that's a good sign. Maybe I am still mourning over my old aesthetician who moved away, but that's my 2 cents... read more

After my first visit to Habit, I had to ask myself, "why didn't I do this sooner?" I red many reviews on Yelp before booking my appointment and the reviews were very informative and accurate so thank you, ladies! I loved the fact that I could book an appointment online. It's instant, you know when and with whom. Once I got there, strangely enough, I too had trouble finding the door. I don't know why, the street number is written right above it, but it was as if the place was shrouded in Harry Potter's invisibility cloak. Or that I was just a bit nervous, it being my first time and all. The room I was shown to was super cozy and comfortable, I almost forgot what I was there for while I was waiting for Nycole. The best part for my first visit was the consultation. Nycole very patiently, professionally, and cheerfully answered all my questions and discussed various aesthetic and style options which I found super helpful. I got sugaring and was glad for it, it was not nearly as painful as I had feared and my skin looks and feels great. I haven't tried other places so I cannot compare, but honestly I cannot think of any reason to now, now that I have developed a Habit. read more

I'm not one to write a Yelp review. Ain't nobody got time for that! Unless you have the worst experience ever. And I indeed had the worst experience ever. What can I say... the owner Carrie and I had a long argument over e-mail when it could've been solved over the phone, which would've taken 5 minutes. Instead of trying to calm me down when I freak out over a problem I had, she acts as if she's better off without me anyway and responds in a way that stressed me out further. I've never had an argument with anyone the way I did with her. She's crazy! I can't support a business with an owner who can't handle problems with her business well. No business is perfect, I get it, but you need to deal with these problems. You change to make people happy. Clearly, some people just aren't fit to handle customer issues though. She needs to go back to Customer Service 101. I know plenty of salons who don't have a receptionist, but they'll still personally call back customers throughout the day, between, in between, and after sessions to deal with issues before they get out of hand. Aside from that, my right eyebrow is still butchered from my last visit there anyway so I'm definitely okay with not returning. If you don't mind possibly dealing with a Soup Nazi type environment for waxing (that may be hit or miss depending on who you get), then I would pass on this. If you want a salon that genuinely cares, then run away and go elsewhere! read more

Sometimes I can't rely on Yelp for a good service place. If there are too many good reviews, I can't just choose one, so I prefer the recommendations of personal friends. So I asked my Facebook friends for suggestions on good Brazilian places in the Marina, and a couple of them recommended Habit. Then a few other friends told me I should try sugaring instead. I was skeptical, but I made the appointment anyway for a sugaring Brazilian session. Sara was my girl, and I have to say that, as someone with zero pain tolerance, I actually didn't mind sugaring quite as much as my usual wax Brazilians. Compared to the hot hard wax, sugaring is much gentler on the skin, and due to the direction in which the hair is pulled, it actually doesn't hurt as much. Now that I've seen the sugaring light, I'm NEVER going back to waxing. I even pre-booked my next appointment, and that's NEVER happened in my life (usually I try to stay away from waxing for as long as possible because I can still remember the pain). Ahoy, matey! A friend in Seattle raved about sugaring. I combed through Yelp and decided on Habit. I booked my appointment online and decided on Amanda, based on my time availability and what Yelpers had to say. If you are booking online, you will be asked to enter your card information. But don't worry, they will not charge. Unless perhaps you cancel without notification? A few days prior to my appointment, I received a friendly email reminder about my scheduled appointment. You will also be emailed the door code to enter Habit. So here I am with a light breakfast in my tummy with two ibuprofens in my system. I traveled BART and Muni for one hour to get here. Bring it. I enter the door code into the padlock, walk upstairs. Dead silence. Is anyone here? I poke my head through one open door and in the next open door, I see a cute blonde. Her name is Amanda...and she will be ripping my pubic hair out at 10am on a Saturday. She walks me into a nautical-themed room. The decor is breathtaking with ships galore. And if you couldn't tell I enjoy nautical stuff, peep my helm tattoo. I undress and she gives me the 101 on sugaring. I am excited and terrified. My palms are clammy. Amanda is friendly and chatty but not overly so. If you make any noise to indicate a more painful hair removal spot, she always asks if you're okay. Although I asked for sugaring, she does use a mix of hard and strip wax, depending on area and hair strength. I definitely appreciate that. After all is done, I want to give her a big hug. Gosh, would that be weird?! Amanda gave me a warm wet towel to wipe down any leftover wax (barely any) and a cloth with (I believe to be) coconut oil. All in all, a SUPER experience. "Wax on, Wax off," but only at Habit. Since my move to SF I have been a slave to Yelp for its guidance on where to go for most everything. Suffice to say, my grooming has slacked. So I chose Habit from the Yelpers and had an appointment with Carrie. The entire experience was so delightful. Carrie was amazing, her groom room is crazy chic cool, and the waxing was almost a secondary element to our chatting and super hip atmosphere. When I left, it took all my good manners not to pull down my pants to unsuspecting bystanders and show them Carrie's amazing handy work. Habit was booked, so I strayed back to international orange, and remembered why habit is the best place in town for waxing: 1) the booze 2) Carrie and Amanda; if it didn't seem slightly pervy, I would totally ask them to go get cocktails and talk smack 3) Carrie says it's the special wax she uses (although it could just be the booze - ibuprofen combo I like to rock), but I swear it doesn't hurt as much as other places Go. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Amy. I've never had as an amazing sugaring job as with her. It's ALMOST painless...as close as it'll ever be to painless, I think. I mean, it's always going to hurt to get your woohoo de-shagged, but I mean, she does it in a way where you just don't freaking notice that she's all deshagging you. Even tho' I have been a faithful regular here with Amanda for quite some time, I just wasn't sure I was ready to divulge this ..uhhh...side...of myself on Yelp. However, this is the best possible place one could ever get one's privates inspected in a Victorian parlor under fluorescent lamps while warm liquid wax is applied. The atmosphere is professional, artistic, and soothing. Amanda is superb at making people feel comfortable. She starts by offering a glass of water, wine, tea...and then directs you to the wipes (should you need them), a towel for privacy, and then lets you disrobe while you listen to swell tunes. Today she had some Cat Power playing. Perfect moody selection for a gray San Francisco kind of day. As stated by others, the wax is top-notch, the service is fast, detail-oriented, meticulous...Amanda keeps a conversation going and I have never once felt exposed, or uncomfortable.Every 6 or 7 weeks when I make that trip to Brazil, I look forward to our chats! I decided to check out Habit after reading all of the positive reviews. Maybe I had the misfortune of a bad waxer, but I had an awful experience. One of the reasons I went here was that I saw they had hard wax. Only, the waxer did not use the hard wax. She used the strips. For a Brazilian. It was awful. I have never been in so much pain in my life. It was also the first time that a Brazilian has caused me to bleed. The waxer was also a bit unfriendly. She wasn't exactly rude and I cannot pinpoint what the problem was, but it was the most uncomfortable waxing experience I've ever had. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Habit. read more

Been shopping around for a waxer since moving back to SF and I think I found a great one! Yes, it's inconveniently located in the Marina (coming from SOMA is literally the worst) but I'm pretty sure my lady business is worth it. I had Bronwyn and used the sugaring service. She was super friendly, made me feel comfortable, and the room was super cutely decorated and extremely clean. She was quick, meticulous, and left me hairless. The place also has super easy online booking, which is awesome. I do wish they had package deals (buy 5, get one free, etc) but unfortunately doesn't look like that's an option yet. The only thing that was confusing and slightly weird was the door to the business looks like a residential door - and it's locked with no indication on how to get up. When I got confused and called them, the girl said they had sent me a door code in my confirmation email and sounded slightly annoyed.. but let's be honest, who actually reads their confirmation emails?
