This small Ethiopian restaurant is a hidden gem. It was hard to find due to poor signage but the food was delicious. The misir wot was perfectly spiced and the injera was more than enough to accompany it. I wish water was free instead of solely bottled water but otherwise no complaints. read more

I cannot remember the last time I had food this good. This restaurant is a must for anyone in or passing through central Iowa. I had the vegan platter and absolutely everything was cooked and seasoned with a perfect blend of flavorful spices. I really can't express how good this restaurant is. The owners and staff went out of their way to make our dining experience exceptional. When I said how much I loved one of the dishes she went and brought me more! As a former Peace Corps volunteer in Ethiopia, Habesha comes the closest to an authentic Ethiopian experience I have seen in the midwest. The service is exceptional, helpful if you need instruction, and very accommodating. Ask for some extra berbere if you really want the true Ethiopian flavor in the doro watt. You can ask for hot sauce if you a fan. They serve the combos in the Ethiopian basket as it would be in the homeland, so lovely. read more

We were attempting to go to another restaurant that used to be in this same spot and stumbled upon Habesha. I'd never had Ethiopian food prior to tonight and I am so glad to have come across this place. We were greeted warmly by the owners and they checked on us regularly to make sure that we were doing ok. Wonderful customer service. They are so incredibly nice and helpful with explaining the menu and how to eat the different foods. Very delightful people. The food was absolutely delicious! Very flavorful spices, tender meats, and it was beautifully plated. The tables are decorated with what appears to be authentic Ethiopian cloths under glass. In fact, much of our experience seemed authentic, down to eating without silverware but instead scooping the food up with flat bread. If you prefer silverware though, they are happy to oblige.
