I didn't have a lot of eggs, so I had to undergo several retrievals. As I got older, the quality of my eggs also declined. At my last retrieval, when I was 40, Dr. Aimee recommended trying PRP. She was very honest with me that it was a newer procedure, but that the results were promising. I ended up retrieving just two eggs. We created embryos, and incredibly, we ended up with one healthy baby boy and one healthy baby girl. Our son--the little boy my husband had always hoped for--came from one of those eggs I retrieved at age 40. With Dr. Aimee's help, I became pregnant through IVF, and we welcomed our beautiful son, who is now 2 1/2 years old. When we decided we wanted a second child, my previous delivery had been difficult, so we made the decision to use a surrogate. Once again, Dr. Aimee was there for us every step of the way. She connected me with multiple agencies, and I didn't have to wait long before finding an amazing surrogate who had been screened by Dr. Aimee. She was local, which meant I was able to be part of the pregnancy and birth journey in a way that was incredibly special to me. I also had a difficult time finding an in-network doctor we felt comfortable with, and Dr. Aimee personally recommended someone and helped make the connection. She went above and beyond--not just as our fertility doctor, but as someone who genuinely cared about helping us complete our family. Our healthy baby girl was just born, and she is absolutely perfect. I am so incredibly grateful to Dr. Aimee and her amazing team for everything they have done for our family over the past 10 years. They have been there for us through every stage of this journey, and I truly don't know what our family would look like without them. After many years, my husband and I decided to try again. This time, we went through his insurance. We had such a horrible experience with the other clinic, we moved our leftover embryos back with Dr. Aimee. She gladly accepted to help us with our second. I cannot praise Dr. Aimee enough! She is a literal angel on earth. The reason we went to Dr. Aimee for our first son was because we didn't want to be treated like another number on a conveyor belt and she did not disappoint. Dr. Aimee goes above and beyond what anyone could ever expect as a patient. She has amazing bedside manners, she's hilarious and she answers any and all questions very thoroughly - I always wonder how she sleeps. I had a couple of ER visits due to nausea, and he made sure to call and check on me and baby afterward each time. I had even scheduled my induction for the day he would be on-call because I wanted him to deliver my baby. However, baby decided to arrive on her own five days early, and he wasn't able to deliver her. Nonetheless, thanks to him, I had an amazingly smooth second pregnancy and delivery. I'm done having kids, and I'm sad I won't get to see him often. I wish he had been my OBGYN for my first pregnancy, but I will continue seeing Dr. Nguyen for my other gynecological needs.

At my 12 week appointment (I believe, timing is a blur) the checked for the heartbeat and found nothing. They sent me for an ultrasound to confirm that the baby had passed away. I was devastated, heartbroken. It was determined that I needed to have an D&C or let nature take its course. My husband and I were newly married, the recession had hit and I was out of work so when we talked insurance, etc for the D&C I was told I'd have to pay close to $2k for the procedure. I knew I wanted to to go that route but didn't know how I was going to pay for it. Dr. Eaton suggested I have the procedure done in the office, the cost would be almost half of that if I'd gone to the hospital. The day of the procedure I was given medication to dialate me and sent home and told to come back several hours later. Once back at the office I was told to lay down, I was NOT given anything to calm me, I was awake and beyond terrified. So scared I was shaking. The entire experience felt wrong and as if I was in a back ally getting an abortion with a coat hanger. My heart was completely broken from loosing my baby and I wish that I had known better and had enough sense to stop him.

It was because of the last experience that I switched to Kaiser when I started working full time. She was my first OBGYN when I was when I was a teenager and I had nothing but neutral experiences with her up until my last appointment. As a young adult, you'd think that you could trust your OB with advice on birth control options but I beg of any young girl to please avoid this woman. Not only was she condescending, she actually laughed at me when I asked her questions about the pill as though I was stupid. It's a pretty traumatizing experience for a young woman to be laughed at by her own doctor when asking questions that should be safe to ask your health provider. I didn't see her, much less another OBGYN for another 4 years because of that and was glad I found my current one at Kaiser who doesn't make me feel bad about myself the way that Dr. Pham-Thomas did. I'm sure she's a fine doctor but she's got a condescending, rude, & elitist demeanor about her because of her profession and truly doesn't seem like a nice individual you could entrust so I'd avoid her if possible if you are a patient at PAMF.

It is with unfortunate circumstances that I have decided to write this negative review. Dr. Pham Thomas had been my OB for a while and she was an okay gynecologist, never had any issues with her. I wish I had done some research on her being the "one delivering my baby and doing my c-section!". Anyhow, my pregnancy was progressing well: I had no complications no high blood pressure baby was growing perfectly normal inside and everything was just so beautifully going along but because of my previous pregnancy and experience this doctor insisted that I delivered at 37 weeks which I still don't understand why because baby was fine in there nothing wrong so why the need for that. I kept arguing with Dr Pham that my gestational age was different from my calculations on ovulation tracking and I know when I tested. So at 37 weeks I was in reality 36 weeks and a few days. These little things just annoyed me so much throughout but somehow I ignored them and just went with the flow which I deeply regret now. But I guess nothing can be done about that now. My birth and delivery story was even more of a nightmare and it gives me PTSD everytime I talk about it. I was called in for a scheduled C-section at 7am and Dr Pham very conveniently gets stuck with another lady whose baby decided to be born before mine and she has to make her push. But I cannot argue that right. She comes in the room I'm all prepped up in at 9.30 (2.5 hours late) and I am rolled into the operation room for my C-section. It takes few attempts to make the incision because of scar tissue and instead of a normal she made a T incision God knows what.. I don't even remember that.. All I can say is the rest was all carelessness and almost criminal negligence on her behalf. My uterus was cut open for 5 minutes and the baby was not pulled out yet. Every surgeon and obstetrician knows the baby has to come out immediately once the uterus is cut open. My poor baby swallowed so much fluid in this process of being drowned in there for 5 minutes and couldn't even cry for 3 minutes he was so stunned. They decided to vacuum his head because he wasn't coming out from the stupid doctor. Several attempts into it he finally came out but this left a big red bump and bruise on the back of his head for two months (cephalohematoma). I felt so helpless because obviously I couldn't move from the epidural. Even the doctors and nurses attending there that day witnessed this and it was definitely not "a rockstar" moment. My son had to be transported to the Children's Hospital in Oakland because the place he was born didn't have that level of NICU care. He was admitted there for 2 weeks due to respiratory distress syndrome and failure (all thanks to this nightmare delivery process and nothing existing with him pre birth). I am sharing this story even though it was a little more detailed than I planned because I wanted everyone to know what this Dr did to my son and I rate her a horrible surgeon. Although she might be an ok doctor or OB. She proved that day that she is not cut out for surgery. And she still had the Audacity to say that yes baby was born at 37 weeks although everyone at the Children's hospital stated his lungs were that of a 36 week-er! And I know my dates so no arguing there. VERY SCARY and UNEXPECTED EXPERIENCE in the end with DR PHAM. I don't want to belittle you but what you did was sheer criminal negligence and I still get goosebumps every time I think about my birth story.

He is compassionate, attentive, reassuring, and always made me feel heard and cared for. When it came time for labor and delivery, I felt completely confident that I was in the best hands! Dr. Shammout's support and care made my labor and delivery the best experience I could have hoped for. The staff was absolutely amazing, and the nurses at the hospital went above and beyond! They were all kind, patient, supportive, and incredibly attentive, not only to me, but to my family as well. I felt cared for every step of the way. Her wonderful bedside manner just made each office visit pleasant . Through my pregnancy, I had many complications, and she was on top of them. She communicated closely with other specialists about my pregnancy and conditions! On my 6 weeks check up postpartum, she discovered I had my tailbone fractured during delivery. She then referred me to physical therapy and closely monitored my progress on recovering. I was so fortunate to have her as my ob. In my opinion obstetrics is probably the most important field in woman's health. It's taken me over one year and a lot of courage to write this review but I feel like what I went through should be shared so that other women deciding on their OBGYN will not have the same result. BED SIDE MANNER I initially wanted to have Dr. Jeffrey-Starr as my OBGYN because of her rave reviews from my neighbor who had a very positive experience with her after a bad experience with her first child. When I first met with Dr. Starr she confronted me with rude comments like why have you seen so many doctors? What is wrong with you? I had seen many doctors due to my endometriosis, it went undiagnosed initially by Dr. Pham who is also at that practice, but later Dr. Beatty (the only doctor I can recommend at that practice) ordered the necessary tests to be able to diagnose it. Every time I asked her questions about my pregnancy she dismissed me as if I was hyper concerned. I thought maybe I was being irrational, given she's done this a thousand times and I have only been pregnant once. She was always in and out of the room after about 5-10 minutes. She would appear visibly annoyed when I asked if I could facetime my husband for the appointment (as this was during the height of COVID) or if I asked if I could go through my list of questions (i.e., is this normal in pregnancy type Qs?) OFFICE FUNCTIONALITY I saw Dr. Starr once every third appointment. She never responded to a single inquiry I had through the online portal, instead it was her office staff who took anywhere from 3-8 days. Her NP would frequently say "that's a Q for Dr. Starr," in which I would never receive any follow through on whether the Q was relayed to her. I consistently waited in the office for my appointment anywhere between 1-2 hours. This is tough for a pregnant woman who is also working. DIAGNOSIS/CARE Because of our infrequency in communication, I didn't really feel like Dr. Starr was my doctor. My saving grace was a family friend who was an OBGYN. I could call her and ask her about symptoms I was having and she would tell me whether they were concerning or not. When she said they were concerning, I went to the ER and got the necessary blood work done. I did end up getting contractions early on and had some symptoms consistent with liver issues (all of these things went undiagnosed) and didn't seem concerning to Dr. Starr. When I was admitted to the hospital due to high blood pressure, I was there for 7 days. The first 72 hours I was induced, on a high amount of pitocin, on an epidural for 4 days, several cervical exams, a serious of high fevers, and very low over sight from Dr. Starr. I had asked Dr. Starr if we should go through a birth plan together, prior to me going to the hospital and she said no. At the hospital, I saw 5 other OBs at the hospital and there was no consistency of care. Finally, I requested a C section after having a very high fever of 102 and my blood pressure shooting up to the 170s. The C section was performed quickly but there was a lot of bickering on the other side of the curtain (overall it seemed like the care team wasn't functioning well together). In the recovery room, I went into septic shock, the rapid response team was called and was transferred to the ICU where my life was literally being saved. There were probably 20-30 different medical professionals buzzing around me, and I didn't see my baby for 3 days after he was born. AFTER CARE Dr. Starr visited me once when I was in the ICU to take my bandages off. I couldn't get an appointment with her for my 6 week post op apt. A different OB said my scar tissue indicates the surgery wasn't performed skillfully. Overall I would not recommend Dr. Starr and actually feel obligated to warn others because the result of having her as your doctor could be fatal.
