I was hired by Ron G. at Forester Media, and from the start it was a grueling experience. Being in…read moresales for over 15 years, I had much to offer this company. I re-located with no expenses paid from Woodland Hills. Regardless of this, I continued to think positive and hoped for resolve. The training was next to nothing, so I had to be a self-starter. I was given an extremely hard task of starting from the bottom, as much of the territory was taken by other salespeople who did not have the skills I had. It was very political in this company, and my skills were not appreciated. I worked long and hard hours, from 7 a.m. in the morning, due to many sales being on the East Coast. There were no leads, although many of the 'Senior Salespeople' had them. I remember walking into an office that seemed like it was from Home and Gardens. Yet, my little open cubicle was given to me, so that everyone could hear my pitch. I was very good in this job, although the training I am rating a "0". Finally, after making thousands of phone calls, I still was asked to do a task that noone could do before. I was let go due to Ron leaving the company, and he said he could not train me any longer. He felt I didn't have the smarts to do this job. It's very funny, because at my current job I make much more, and am given the sales support I need. This place is a joke, please do not work at this company or you will be sadly disappointed!

It comes out every Thursday, and is available for free all over town. It's nice to have a source for truly local news. (Editorial comment starts here.) There was a time when most news was local, with the big national stories included as needed. Everyone got a newspaper once a day and watched a half-hour local news broadcast on TV each night, and maybe a half-hour national news program. Now we are inundated with global news and looped videos of every tragedy and crisis deemed profitable to report on, and multiple 24x7 news channels. While I feel it is a good thing that we are more aware of the lives of others around the world, and the challenges they face, there has to be a balance. We are in danger of losing our connection and sense of belonging to our local community. A local newspaper like this is an excellent way to nurture that connection.

OVN has a Wednesday update online before the next Friday edition of the small-city/valley newspaper is published. Breaking News updates on various topics are offered. The OVN is rooted in the community since 1891. Today's committed journalists have solid backgrounds in subject matter that is not fluff or trite or dependent on sensationalist violence. Yet the OVN does not shy away from controversies that erupt in this community known for choice scenery, lively festivals, sports tournaments, environmental fervor, farm-fresh foods, and unique 'pink moments'. The OVN's blend of online modernization with the timeless comfort of a handy-sized printed newspaper, overflowing with color photographs, is pleasing. There are numerous 'extras' with the OVN's specialty publications. These are found both online and on the sidewalks (news-stands), as well as in locally-owned cafes, boutiques, and taverns in and around Ojai.

The station is directly next to a Good Will donation store and center. The people of Santa Barbara are wonderful and every time I go to Goodwill to donate, the parking lot is full of other people already donating goods. This time, as the lot was full, I turned on my emergency flashers and parked in the only open space next to a Kjee truck. I'll be honest the spot did have a restricted no parking sign, but all I needed to do was drop off shoes then leave. As I stepped out of my car, Kjee employees run up to my car, speak to me with profanity, and demand I move my vehicle. They were not kind, they did not explain why I could not run to drop off my donations, and they were not willing to listen to a word I said. Of course I moved my car, but how rude of anyone to speak to another in such manner? After donating my items to Good Will, I walked into the office to demand an apology or an explanation for the obscene language as I was truly embarrassed. The office employees just ignored me. Needless to say, I will never listen to Kjee radio station again and hope other people choose not to too. I wish all good luck trying to bypass the Kjee bridge tolls to donate items to Good Will. Finally, I do not recommend anyone to step near near this office or even attempt to communicate with these inhume people. Imagine working for them. What kind of training would that be?
