This HEB is well-stocked as HEBs go. It is also ethnic-forward, with lots of local offerings for its target population. I wish I could load up all of the fresh vegetables here and take them home for one hell of a salsa party. The food, not the dance. The layout of the store is slightly congested as is the parking lot, but that also speaks to the popularity of this grocery shopping option among the locals. The customer service here is exceptional, friendly and professional. Thanks, HEB, for making my three weeks here a little more bearable. read more

Went to HEB on veterans in Del Rio to return a tortilla soup that I purchased, to try it for the first time, for 50% off 2 days prior. The clerk Alexis said 50% off products can't be returned. I asked where did it say that at and she said possibly on the wall in the return center which I took a picture of and read to her what it said, which was different. I further asked her how would the customer know before buying the 50% off product, especially military who's never heard of HEB prior and she said that wasn't her issue. I left the product at the store due to no manager being available to get further clarification/explanation. HEB should let people know if you buy something 50% off you can't return it. Beware..of no fine print. It doesn't allow me to post pictures. read more

I love love love your store and the amazing selection. Also your other department managers and staff are soooo amazing. But today was upsetting. I was in your store, we went to check out and the cashier Olivia O. was complaining about how her lane was only for 15 or less and I apologized since we didn't see her light. She slammed and threw our food as she rang them up. Our groceries were falling on the floor and someone else had to come pick them up. I asked was there anyone to bag the groceries and she told us she didn't have a bagger and to bag the groceries ourselves so I had to tell her to get a bagger and even more so I asked how to use the coupons and she said she didn't know and repeated the total and just looked at me like, I guess we are just not going to use the coupons and not gonna get a bagger either. I had to call a manager, Selena to at least get finished checking out. I really hope someone talks to her and maybe things will go better next time. I really do love your store more than walmart. read more

Updated review since I had to shop at HEB during my last trip to Del Rio twice. It's still an odd place to go into. Firstly, the parking lot is hell, because shopping carts take up parking spaces. Unfortunately, I had to suck it up to get three things that aren't available anywhere else in town. Yes, everything is bright, and looks clean, but it seems like too much stuff is shoved into the space to provide one stop shopping. The cashier kept chit chat to a minimum, and provided just the amount of service I wanted. Ugh, I survived my trips into HEB with no obvious wounds. Too bad I can't bring myself to wander aimlessly in the aisles like I did when I was young. read more

Very clean store and the only other competition to Wal Mart. Service here was good and they have a large enough selection to where they are able to hold their own against its competitor. They even have their own special blend of coffee beans that I like. Its called the "The taste of Texas". read more

What can you say about the Texas institution HEB? Well, first of all, for a non-Texas native it was nice to find a store that has everything that's not named WalMart. Perhaps not all the brands you want, perhaps not exactly how you remember them where you came from, but if you want it you can find it there. Biggest surprise? They have an incredibly poor salsa selection. What they do have is a 100 types of picante sauce. I've come to understand that is common in border towns, but it stll blows my gringo mind. The people at the deli are very friendly and they have a decent selecton of cold cuts. They have a great bakery for dessserts, but the bread selections were a bit weak--I can only conjecture that the prevalance of the tortilla (they have 100 types to choose from) makes bread choices low on the priority list of HEB management. Personally I generally prefer my sandwich to be a sandwich, not a taco. Produce is plentiful, of good quality, and is reasonably priced; as are the non-deli meats. The wine selection is nothing to write home about, but it's cheaper in general than what you would find in many East Coast grocery stores. The beer choices left something to be desired and the prices are not as cheap as I expected. Shiner is just as expensive in Del Rio as it was in North Carolina, for example. The guy who runs the beer and wine section looked at me funny when I asked him if he could order Dogfish Head for me. But let's be honest: who goes to the megamart grocery for fine beer selection? It's not enough of a negative to detract from the overall quality of the store. One pet peeve: they start playing Christmas music the first week in November. There's only so many times I can hear Jingle Bells before I start flipping out and HEB is quickly filling up my quota. In summary, I greatly prefer HEB to the local WalMart grocery store for 80% of my shopping (the exception being a few "american" items I can only find in bulk at WalMart). Overall, the HEB selection is superior and of higher quality. read more

If you're OK with employees cutting in front of THREE different customers to buy their own meal, then this is the store for you. But, If you are one of those who think that customers shouldn't have to deal with employees cutting in front of you because an employee is hungry, then don't shop here. Both the hungry employee and unconcerned cashier have nothing but contempt for paying customers. Good luck staying in business HEB! I hope your employees love how you prefer them over paying customers. read more

Sadly, this tiny town in Del Rio doesn't have many shopping options. Walmart's items are always expired so HEB it is. Customer service is horrible, there are 3 female checkers that have been polite an talkative. I appreciate that, other than those 3 no one else knows how to even say "hi" or "your welcome" after I've said thank you. The manager needs to hire friendlier employees, ones that greet you with a smile (Yes, it's part of your job) read more

Store is always dirty. Fruit and vegetables are a hit and miss. Store employees are very unfriendly.

Great HEB. Helpful staff, clean, though they seem to run out of some things really quickly (though I can't really hold that against them considering it's the only real grocery store for miles around). read more
